First DND character!!!

I know absolutely nothing about dungeons and dragons, but I've been told I'd love it and I fully believe that! I decided to research races and classes a tiny bit then make a character before thinking up any stats because that's what I know nothing about and dread learning.. DND has so many rules and stuff soo yeah.

She's a fairy bard!! She's 3'2 with dragonfly wings, because I thought they were cool. I read that most faeries spells are wisdom, intelligence and charisma based? So I thought bard would work well with charisma.. also I want her to be a little info-broker, singing songs and eavesdropping on the crowd for intel? You feel me?

Anyhow, posting this to ask what I should know as a beginner making a DND character! Please teach me like I'm five years old, tell me what to research first and what stats you think would be good for my character! :3
