Look, I may not be an explorer or an adventurer or a treasure seeker or a gunfighter, Mr. O'Connell.

Three Card Monte [6/8]
Pairing: Yelena Belova/Kate Bishop
Rating: M
Word Count: 31,749
Chapter: Part IV
Summary: Yelena is a good art thief, but there's just something about Bishop Security's heir and white knight, Kate Bishop, that has her rethinking her approach for this heist. There was the intelligence and thoroughness, not to mention that she was full of surprises, that was a bad combination for her. She was so going to get caught, and that was embarrassing.
AKA, a Leverage AU
PREVIEW
“Huh. Well what was your favorite?” Yelena asked. Kate frowned, “Team sport? Rugby.” She said. “Super fun, high energy, and you gotta rely on your team a lot.” She leaned back in her chair and squinted at Yelena before saying, “You'd do great at rugby.” “That's the one like American football but without all the gear, yes?” Yelena asked, picturing Kate in a sport team outfit, sweaty, face flushed— “Yeah! It's much more hardcore than football.” Kate said, bringing Yelena back to the less exciting moment. “But for solo sports it was archery, hands down.” Kate continued. “It was nice, great for hand eye coordination. Not to mention you can pull off some sick trick shots.” Yelena raised a brow. “Trick shots? With your medieval sticks and string?” Now Kate looked a bit offended, which was always a great look (eyes sharp, mouth open in an ‘o’, brows furrowed, just a few steps away from furious , which she bet was a stunning look on the woman, but she did not want to be the person on the receiving end of that one). “I'll just have to show you.” The offended look was quickly replaced by confident, which Yelena decided she liked just as much. Which was good, considering all the times Kate seemed to wear it. “There's a really cool one where the arrow goes around a wall to hit a target without ricochet. You can't do that with a gun.” Yelena sighed, mostly for show, mostly to annoy Kate again, and said “I suppose you'll have to show me because I simply don't believe you can do it.” “Um, wow, alright then. I bet you five bucks I can do it.” Kate said, crossing her arms and baiting Yelena with a single raised brow. She mirrored Kate’s position. “You're on!” She said and smirked. It wasn't that she didn't doubt Kate could do it. She absolutely believed Kate thought she could. But there was something nice about Kate rising to a challenge. Beautiful. Threatening. Cocky. It was so much nicer than the way her father’s arrest seemed to just suck the life and fire out of her, so it was fun for Yelena to goad this version of Kate Bishop back into existence.

truly the most american thing is Big Drink. more than late stage capitalism, more than an unparalleled cultural focus on individualism, more than 9/11 jokes
what binds all americans together culturally is Big Drink
and you might be saying "is this fat shaming" or "but mayor bloomberg outlawed Big Drink in nyc" or "gays are so annoying about their iced coffee" or some other dumb comment but no open your minds, Big Drink isn't just sugary or caffeinated beverages
every day i see one of you hydration bitches (affectionate) on the train with a water bottle so big a toddler could drown in it. that too is Big Drink. we literally invented a bigger beer can (tall boy) in wisconsin in the 60s in the service of Big Drink
anyway i never feel more american then when i have Big Drink in my hands

short fuse if you light my fire [13/?]
pairing: Yelena/Kate (Hawkeye)
rating: T (for now)
chapter word count: 9,254
summary: Yelena decides to go to college. It just so happens to be the same one Kate Bishop attends.
preview:
From inside the apartment, something shatters.  Yelena’s dropped her bags, pulled her gun, and pinned Kate up against the brick wall alongside the door before either says anything, and Kate — clutching her newly-found keys in her fist — doesn’t say anything for a long beat after, either, eyes wide with something that isn’t fear. When she exhales, Kate’s breath fogs up the air between them, a heavy and long release. “There’s someone in your apartment,” Yelena murmurs, fingers of her free hand pressed to Kate’s hip to keep her in place. “Where’s your bow?”  She’s surprised by how inactive Kate is, flattened against the wall. Stage fright could always be an issue with those not used to combat, but she’d only ever seen the exact opposite of the affliction in Kate. This alone would have been enough to get her to reconsider the situation, maybe, but with Kate stock-still — hands lifted slightly — the path of her downward gaze is obvious: Yelena’s mouth to her eyes to her weapon and then back again, in reverse, and Yelena finds herself preoccupied with this instead.

If I tell you this is a horror dance number it still won't prepare you. That last move was so terrifying even the judge was like "Let go! Let go!" If you told me they're actually possessed I'd believe you.
One of the most perfectly choreographed and executed dances I have ever seen and comes closest to Shobana's original performance in Manichitrathazhu. Incredible!
