verlaine's whole existence is filled to the brim with grief. there's not really a second that goes by that he isn't grieving something in one way or another. he's still grieving his past, his origins, and all the experiences he'll lack because of said origins. there are things that that he genuinely doesn't grasp to the full compacity, mostly being connections with other people, and it frustrates him to no end. because he knows that in a way, he'll never be able to have the same kind of connection that two humans have with each other.

he loves, but he doesn't think it's in the same way that someone else may love, someone a bit more human. he often covers up this grief with anger.

like anne carson said, why does tragedy exist? because you are full of rage. why are you full of rage? because you are full of grief.

verlaine is silent for a beat before he offers her a smile, but it's hard to say how genuine it is. " why did you join this organization in the first place, higuchi ? " but the question is genuine. he tilts his head, setting the document down so that his full attention is on her. " from what i've heard from akutagawa, you perform well out on the field. so why is it that you make such jokes at your own expense ? "

Higuchi could feel the blood drain from her face, leaving her with an even paler constitution. Maybe, just maybe (absolutely), don't joke around her superiors. Especially being as expandable as herself. "N-no, I don't want to die, sir." She still managed to push words out of her mouth, even if still uncertain if she should correct hersef and explain that she was only making a self-deprecating joke.

genuine guilt is rare for verlaine.

he can acknowledge something that he's done that's considered wrong in the eyes of society, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he's sorry for what he did. and usually when he is sorry, it's for a more selfish reason. rimbaud is the only person that's ever been able to invoke genuine guilt in him.

speaking of guilt and rimbaud, he has survivor's guilt that pairs with his c-ptsd. it's not something that he copes well with often times. yes, rimbaud used his ability to save him, but there's still the lingering question of why he did it. he strongly believes that rimbaud deserves life more than himself, because "rimbaud's birth wasn't a mistake".

On the topic of block evasion.

Have you ever been blocked? Whether that be over a conflict, an opinion you had, or no known reason, maybe you might be tempted to make a new account or blog and try to contact them on there. Maybe you might be tempted to log out and read their blog as a "guest." Maybe you might be tempted to get a friend to contact them and ask why they blocked you.

Full stop.

If somebody blocks you, that is an indication that they do not want to talk to you, they do not want to interact with you, they do not want you interacting with them, and they do not want to be associated with you in any way. They are putting up a boundary.

It doesn't matter why they blocked you. They can block you for so much as liking apples more than oranges. They don't even need a reason to block you. The only reason needed for blocking someone is that you want to.

You can block anyone and everyone on this site as long as you want to. And if somebody blocks you, you leave them alone. Don't try to get your friend to ask them why. Don't make alternate accounts to ask them why or to continue an argument. Don't even touch their blog in any capacity.

And I can't believe I have to say this, but block evasion isn't limited to interaction. If you're getting a friend to send you screenshots of their posts or making an alt/logging off to read their posts, that also counts as block evasion, because you are circumventing a block so that you could do something that you wouldn't be able to do on an account that was blocked by the person.

People have boundaries for a reason. People don't owe you an explanation, they don't owe you the privilege of reading their posts, and they definitely don't have to interact with or see you online if they don't want to.

Stop block evading. Period.

but rimbaud wasn't around at the moment to enforce such teachings. it wasn't as if he wasn't aware that people found their bond to be sick either. that didn't matter; he'd make quick work of them.

he doesn't flinch when the output of his ability causes the body to break. it's over in an instant, which is more mercy than they deserved, he thinks. but if he didn't show them some kind of mercy, he's sure rimbaud would've talked to him about it later. he increases the output momentarily to make sure that they're thoroughly dead before he steps closer to drag the body along behind him, effortlessly.

presses a gloved hand to his eyes with a quiet sigh. verlaine hates the unfocused feeling and the dull pounding in his skull, but he's dealt with far worse and he's not asking for something to combat it unless he knows where it came from. so he's chose to suffer in silence. he doesn't look up immediately when he hears the door open, but he figures it's either someone coming to hand in a report or tell him that he has a new student.

i am gonna be actually so brutally honest with you, chat.

shipping is the absolute bane of my existence in fandoms and communities ngl. it's so heavily focused on that it has a tendency to overshadow everything else that's important. and maybe that's just the aroace in me talking, but people exist outside of their relationships.

i mean, it doesn't really help that my views have been absolutely ruined by people previously in my life. and how they used it as a means of control, because believe it or not, i do get invested in such things when there's enough chemistry there between muses. it ends up meaning a fucking lot to me.

but i don't know. i think it's important to branch out from shipping too. of course, people are gonna do what they're gonna do, but seeing s/k/k already overshadow everything else in stormbringer when da/zai is barely fucking there at all is pissing me off, actually.

and when they can't ship chu/uya with daz/ai, they end up shipping him with shi/rase or one of the flags and i'm just.

ENOUGH. go sit down, sis. you're done with the mic.

chu/uya isn't just some accessory. and i'm sure people could look at me and be like "well, cor, you're hypocritical since you care so much about rim/laine" and maybe they're right. but at least rim/laine doesn't happen to overshadow both rim/baud and verl/aine as characters. and the shipping has only a few people that i know of that actually care about it. i've seen posts where people are like "yeah it exists".

this isn't just something that's randomly sprung up either. this is how i've felt for a long fucking time and it's such a pet peeve. and this isn't me going "OH WELL YOU CAN'T DO THAT, YOU CAN'T DO THAT" because it isn't.

i just want fandoms to allow characters to exist on their fucking own.
