Stone Hubbard has been around fashion and fabrication his whole life. From his early childhood, he would watch his aunts make clothing patterns from paper bags and transform them into their latest fashions. His mother had a keen eye and fierce collection of handbags and shoes; however, it would not be until his costume construction class at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX. that he would be introduced to bag design and fabrication by Elizabeth Knodle. Even though he would first pursue a career in costume design, he was always designing and fabricating bags.
He continued his formal accessories design and fabrication studies later at the Fashion Institute of Technology, earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2011.
In 2003 Stone launched Raw Goddess, a wearable art handbag line. Raw Goddess was honored to be exhibited alongside Cuban artist Damian Aquiles at the Hedi Cho Gallery in New York City’s Chelsea district. They were sold in boutiques throughout New York City.
In 2014 by Stone was launched with a concentration on a more masculine style. Ultimately the culmination of Raw Goddess and by Stone became Stone Hubbard New York.
After many years of working in his cramped studio in Manhattan, Stone found a spacious, inspiring, and vibrant workspace at the iconic Neumann Leather building in Hoboken, NJ where new bag creations are underway.
His bags have been seen in several movies, Vogue Türkiye, Vanity Fair UK, and spotlighted on E News.
When Stone is not in the studio creating he is at Parsons School of Design at The New School where he is an Assistant Professor in the BFA Fashion Product Pathway and Parsons Academy teaching the next generation of designers and makers.
