889 | you call him in need of assistance at 2 in the fucking morning after a date gone wrong

he shouldn’t even be here. that’s his first thought.

it pissed him off to no end that you went on this date in the first place. pissed him off even more that you ignored every single “that guy’s a fuckin’ asshole, you know he won’t treat you right” he threw your way when you showed him the guy’s face.

and it’s the final punch to the gut when his phone lit up at exactly 2:21 a.m. with your name (and a shitty photo he took of you back in high school where there’s something in your teeth and your midway between a blink) and you tell him your shitty date ditched you halfway through.

it takes everything in him not to bark out an “i fuckin’ told you” when he picks the phone up. that can wait until you’re not emotional warped and, from what he could tell though the phone, 3 mimosas in.

bakugou sat up in bed, jaw clenched so tight it ached, rubbing the grit of sleep out of his eyes. he drags on a shirt then shrugs into his leather jacket, cursing under his breath.

is he really gonna do this? he hesitates for half a second until his phone pinged again. your name and that damn photo lighting up his screen, cutting through the dark.

“fuck,” he groans, voice echoed in his quiet apartment. he grabs his helmet off the dresser and leaves with a slam of his door.

he’s a sucker. that’s what it comes down to.

a fuckin’ sucker for you and he hates it almost as much as he loves it.

that’s how he ended up here, leaning against his bike at the curb, gloved fingers drumming impatiently on the gas tank all while waiting for you to come stumbling out after a date with a different man.

the door opens and there you are, pretty dress hugging your figure perfectly, lips tinted in a color that makes his mouth go dry. bakugou sucks in a sharp breath, tongue pressing hard against his cheek as he fights to look away and fails miserably. the click of your heels on the pavement hits him like a drumbeat, drowning out everything else in his head except one single dangerous thought— god fucking damn it. you look good.

“katsuki!” you cheer. your voice loud. too loud for 2 am.

the second your eyes meet his red ones, you’re practically running across the sidewalk in those stupid heels and that stupid stupid dress.

he snaps up straighter before he can stop himself, shoulders squaring, jaw tight. for half a second, he forgets why he’s here, forgets hes supposed to be pissed until it slams back into him all at once.

you’re his best friend and he’s standing here at ass o’clock, extra helmet in hand, picking you up from a date with someone else

and still he holds out his hand to steady you when you nearly trip into him

“took you long enough” he rasps. he tries to sound gruff only to fail because his voice cracks at the end (like it fucking always does around you). you just smile up at him, breath taking and half drunk. your eyes bright, but glassy. your body slip from his gloved hand as you find your balance again leaving behind an ache that digs under his skin and settles heavy in his chest.

you open your pretty little mouth to speak only to clamp it shut with a pout. something feels off, you notice, rubbing your lips together they feel lighter. before bakugou can ask what’s wrong, you grab at his helmet and push it over his head. your movements are surprisingly sharp for someone who was just stumbling a few seconds earlier.

your delicate fingers brush his ears, his hair, the sharp line of his jaw. soft, careful touches that burn a trail of sparks on his skin. he swears he can feel your touch straight through the damn padding, every gentle skim of your fingers lighting him up from the inside out

then you lean in closer, breath warm against his neck and pull out your lipstick. the click of the cap feels loud between you as you guide his neck up to where you need it using his visor like a mirror.

he watches helplessly behind the black tint as you reapply your lipstick, steady and unhurried, your reflection sharp and perfect on the curve of the visor. his red eyes widen, the scent of your perfume fills up his lungs like smoke, sweet and suffocating

it’s enough to fry every fuse in his fucking head.

“katsuki?” you murmur. “all good?”

he’s still, gloved hands clenched tight around the handlebars like it’s the only thing keeping him alive right now. his chest is heaving, lungs dragging in air that tastes like your scent. your warmth still ghosting over him.

it’s pathetic, he thinks. fucking pathetic how a single touch, a single glance from you can set every nerve in his body into a frenzy but goddammit right now, with you so close and so pretty— he couldn’t care less. afterall, he is a sucker.

“need a minute…” he grits out, low and rough. ears burning red even under the helmet. “fuckin’— just… gimme a sec, yeah?”
