killer wail 5.1 will still never live up to sting ray. especially not in salmon run ◇ just a warning for this blog: im not happy with splatoon 3. im not happy with anything about rotm, im not happy with deep cut, im not happy with decisions they make for multiplayer (peer-to-peer connection, league being replaced with challenges that are limited time, all ranked modes being lumped into one rank system, repeat items in the catalog, etc), and im not happy with dedf1sh in side order. pretty much the only thing i do like is salmon run. i will be complaining a lot and saying things that a majority of fans might disagree with. do not be afraid to block me if you dont wanna see my takes. i mind my business and dont go out of my way to tell people that theyre wrong for liking the game, so you shouldnt go out of your way to tell me im wrong for disliking the game, its very easy to mind your business.

What’s a weapon that if you could, you’d get rid of completely from the game
Also favorite in game song/band? ᔦꙬᔨ
trislosher i gotta be real two hits to kill with no damage falloff on the edges and fast shooting is kinda crazy. it's easily countered just by not being really close to it but it doesnt stop it from feeling bullshit
for the 5th ask today i will say i am not good at picking favourites. but i think free association

today on splatoon mythbusters: is Agent 4 a country bumpkin?
no lol this is probably the funniest widespread misconception to come out in recent years A big part of it is because people misunderstood this map.
I came across this trivia point on the wiki page for agent 4 while making this post LOL agent 4 has better access to public transportation than 95% of you With all that green on the map and nothing marked in between, It seems that people have been assuming the population density of inkopolis looks something like the image on the left. While it's unclear exactly how big the population is of inkadia and the surrounding area is, going roughly off of how irl east Tokyo and neighboring Chiba prefecture look, i think its safe to guess were dealing with an urban area that looks more like whats on the right.
(side note about population count: i take the account of the Low Water Party with a grain of salt since that isnt even a real number they used. something that is more reliable is that graffiti artist Sally has over 240k followers on social media. while followers can be from anywhere in the world ofc, it sounds like her fanbase is largely in inkopolis. i think its safe to say inkopolis is a very big city!)
If we're to look more at the irl equivalent of the area, it seems the Inkopolis Coastal Connector is based on the Keiyo Line. Following that line roughly to where 4's house is lands us in a ward in Chiba city. It doesn't look like much, but about 100k people live in that area. Not a super crazy urban area like tokyo, but still urban.
(incidentally, a major landmark on the Keiyo line is Makuhari Messe, where 3 of the irl splatoon idol concerts have been held. maybe a coincidence but maybe gives more credence to the idea that that's what the coastal connector is based on?) Apparently on the Japanese side, there's a theory that 4 is from Yotsukaido, which is a little further north of the area i circled. why there? Yotsukaido means "4 town street"...4...haha
Ok enough guessing based on "vibes" and real maps that may or may not be accurate to how things are in the splatoon world. The Actual lore: On Splatoon base it's confirmed they grew up about 40 minutes away from Inkopolis by train, close to the city. That's like a nothing amount of distance.
Another developer interview from 2017 goes into more detail.
Inoue: Agent 3 had a very "I've finally made it to the city" feeling, with a strong desire to become fresh. 4 on the other hand, not so much. Rather than being someone from the countryside, they're more like someone who came from a commuter town within the greater metropolitan area. It's like a place where the limited express trains wouldn't stop at, but the semi-express trains would (laughs).
so agent 4 is very clearly, a city kid. agent 3 is the country bumpkin, from an area so far away its not even on the map. According to splatoon base...
Far enough away that they moved to inkopolis alone. meanwhile 4 lives close enough that they could just go home to their parents after battling.
Also this is something that I never see brought up. Amidst the dubiously canon early concept comics in the back of the artbook, there's a comic about agent 3 leaving their hometown, mentioning they live in a seaside town called [REDACTED] with a population of 5000.
Again, these comics are dubious since theyre so old. but there are ideas in these comics that have carried over to the final games in some form, and this is consistent with agent 3's final characterization that they come from a far away small town and had a longing for the city.
anyway tldr i think its funny how agent 4's fandom characterization/backstory got swapped with 3's all because of a misread map

one of the funniest things splatoon 3 did was change "squid form" to "swim form" to apparently be more inclusive to octolings but then at the very same time introduce "squid" roll and "squid" surge. like what was the fucking POINT

the alterna log said "The energy from the rocket boosters overloaded the cavern's liquid crystals." but why? why would it cause such a violent reaction from them, they're just LCDs.
the only difference from normal LCDs is that it was driven by humanity's innermost thoughts. perhaps it wasnt the rocket itself. it was the humans reaction to it. the rocket turns on, and everyone is hit with hope. hope to see the world outside again, a new future and a new start. and there's fear. fear that the world on the outside will be dangerous and that the future wont be kind. the moment those boosters turned on everyones emotions were at an all time high. the combined fear and hope for the future overloaded it

Gonna keep it 100% real in all my years playing splat 2 seeing anyone else besides me using sting ray was rare. I never have and still dont understand the hatred for sting ray. It never came off as crazy overpowered to me. Just feels like another tenta missles situation where everyone swears up and down that its broken when all you need to do is move. That also never felt like too crazy of an issue back in splat 2. Idk
#i mean.... maybe it was more of an issue in ranked modes? surprisingly enough i didnt even see it often in tower control#so like i genuinely wholeheartedly dont get the hate people have for it i feel like everyone else is from a different dimension#where sting ray is crazy overpowered and everyone spams it#splatoon 3#weaponblog#sting ray

I LITERALLY just realized Deep Cut is useless.
They contribute nothing in story mode, nor do they have any DLCs.
They deserve better!
#its true#they get constantly sidelined for squid sisters and off the hook#yes theyre in story mode no it doesnt mean theyre relevant#theyre bossfights that add nothing to the story and their sunken scrolls lore is completely entirely irrelevant to anything that goes on#for the first like... idk 6 months of the game they didnt even have unique stage dialogue. it had to get added later on#at least in splatoon 2 when oth had unique outfits they would actually be wearing said outfits#most of the games lifespan consisted of deep cut interacting with the other idol groups. they never got their own spotlight to expand upon#anything about them or their clans or the splatlands at all#and in my personal opinion they dont even have good synergy with each other. like they do not come off as actual friends#but otherwise they even announced dlc with oth as soon as the game dropped. oth was part of another band from the start too#splatoon 3 was not once ever about deep cut except for the 1 year fest that ultimately added nothing to game other than#vitriolic hatred between fans

Team Past's tune that played when they won
Plus, the tune that would have played if Team Present won
these are just the ones that play in their respective games, so team future would have just had the normal deep cut one. i'll put it for completeness

Reading the tags about ded, while you're not entirely wrong there I feel like it was kind of hamstringed by how maybe (at least going by 2's QnA) Iso Padre wouldn't have any real reason per-say to be with the OtH and 8 team afterwards. He found their goal fascinating but not much more really. He probably rode that subway for 5 more years until he finally found purpose, ambiguous as said answer is.
Personally even if dedf1sh was not a png and was just a Turquoise October situation with pure album art they still likely would've added in a sanitized octo anyway to be like "hey Marina did in fact have more friends down underground" and to still showcase that idea of curing the sanitized through a roguelike experience. As 'physical evidence' that Marina's theory does have merit.
That's just me though, I wouldn't know what goes through storyboards or whatever. I'm just saying that if they wanted to avoid a CQ Cumber/ORCA situation they only had two choices: Iso Padre, who could be part of the self discovery journey (and would have even more awkward silence since he sticks out like a sore thumb and is ironically more connected to Cuttlefish then he is Off the Hook. Also elevator and big guys hard /j), or a sanitized octoling, not necessarily dedf1sh, but purely because we see and fought them in OE, so now that opens up so many to-be named faces who Marina likely once knew underground and again, is physical evidence that Marina's plan can work.
Overall conclusion? They would've been the 4th wheel in the Marina/Pearl watch fest and not likely have been able to contribute to much no matter who got the spot.
Yeah yeah but the problem with sanitized octolings that i have brought up like a billion times already if anyone even bothers to pay any attention is that they RETCONNED how it works. Knowing anything about octo expansion in and out of the game tells you exactly how it works and the conclusion marina comes to in side order is NOT it. Besides, youre also missing the fact that i literally admitted my hatred for dedf1sh was initially completely petty, i was just sick of seeing people push aside an actual character for a literal png, so you could imagine what it felt like for that very thing to actually canonically happen. Also, iso padre having less synergy with oth is another glaring issue with side order: it should not just be about whether these characters can have haha funny conversations with each other. It couldve been more in depth, make it truly about EVERYONE kamabo co screwed over and not JUST people marina knew. Because, again, if they hadnt retconned sanitization, you would know there is quite literally no hope for them (not to mention they dont even show any proof of it working in game if you pay any actual meaningful attention). It just made it all seem like they wanted to have a randomly popular character to do fuck all and in order to justify it they had to jump through several hoops. Plus, all of that ended up being completely meaningless once you take alterna into account and it just seems like the devs goal was to jingle some keys in front of people and unfortunately that seems to have worked extremely well for the lot of you. Also i literally dont care that acht was standing around during grandfest that is literally the least of my concerns.
#sorry for the huge paragraph i forgot people dont know how to read#point is: i dont like dedf1sh i think they ruined side order. i dont care. ive said this so many times before#splatoon 3#weaponblog#ask
