@quantumvaudeville drew me an Alloran inspired by those medieval tapestries of unicorn hunts. Gosh!
I do so love how varied Andalite redesigns can get, and the fact that at a few points humans in the series who half-glimpse one think they could be unicorns. In the first several books the Animorphs all describe Visser Three's host body as being dainty and delicate, too.

i would have been an animorphs middle schooler except i never got past book 6 because that was the book where one of the kids gets possessed by the aliens (i think idk man it's been a while) and the angst and drama of it all just lit something in my brain on fire. i was like pacing around my bedroom, holding the book, and imagining my silly little ocs going through it too and i was just so autistic about the concept of alien possession and the whump and the torture that i literally couldn't move on to the next book. i feel like this says many things about me

Probably a dumb question -- do you know why both the animorphs and yeerks prefered not to reveal the war? i know the yeerks didnt want to damage potential hosts, but if they were losing, would they have wanted to openly attack? the animorphs were willing to later-- im unclear on what changed then
For the yeerks: I think it's the sheer number of humans. We know that, given the estimated death toll alone, there were at most ~50,000 yeerks in the pool under the Animorphs' hometown (#52). We also know that was the biggest pool on the planet (#51). So I tend to guesstimate that there are 200,000 yeerks total on Earth, at maximum penetration.
200k yeerks vs. 6,000,000k humans doesn't work out for the yeerks, unless the yeerks already have (say) the leaders of the G8 countries under their control. Which is why the yeerks spend so many books trying to get G8 leaders (#20-22, #48, etc.) or dramatically lessen the number of humans (#41, #46, etc.).
For the Animorphs: They spend a lot of the war trying to bring it into the open, especially early on (#3, #8, #11, etc.) but their biggest problem is not knowing who they can trust. Even one human-controller knowing their identities and that they can morph would probably end the whole war effort, and there isn't a way to identify controllers from the outside.
I think the biggest reason they move away from those efforts is David. They give him the ultimate level of trust, and he uses it to betray and nearly kill them. He drives home the danger of giving even one stranger even one iota of trust. But he also doesn't entirely remove their desire to bring the war into the open, as they're the ones who ultimately succeed in doing so, over the course of #45 - #53.
