andrew starts bench pressing neil whenever he gets bored and neil just. goes with it. never asks a single question andrew just moves him and neil's like guess im being pushed into the air now. it becomes a regular enough thing that sometimes andrew will let neil watch exy while its happening because he can do a shit ton of reps and needs to keep neil entertained. at some point kevin walks in on them and goes on a lecture about safe fitness practices or whatever and then neil's like "ur just upset andrew can bench press me and you cant" which of course turns it into a team wide competition to see who can bench press neil the Most (matt seems to have it in the bag he even beats andrew's pr but andrew still wins thru the power of spite and ego)

i need to start putting neil into situations where he can show off his on the run skills. like poker games, and pool games even tho he's canonically shit at it, and like. darts. i need him to start hustling people with his beautiful big eyes and confused demeanor and then steal all their money while andrew sits hornily in the corner and grips his thigh so hard he starts bleeding

remember when Neil said to Andrew that he should get some free questions in their game, cause he gave all of his secrets for free? And Andrew replied only one free question and Neil said: “the fewer you give me, the more you’ll hate what I ask.” And Andrew replied: “I hate everything about you anyway, I won’t notice.”

This is one of my favorite Andreil moments and I have tons of them, but still this one gave me a heart flutter, cause Andrew says I hate everything about you anyway, but you’ll know damn well that when Andrew says that he hates something or someone, it’s because he cares about that thing. I remember when he said: “I don’t care about Exy enough to hate it”. He loves Neil so much. Saying I won’t notice it’s like giving him a blank check, saying I won’t notice it’s more than he ever did or said to anyone else. Cause you know that he notices everything around him and he takes action on it, on people that annoy him, on ppl that touch his things. So to say I won’t notice is like the biggest love declaration from him. To me it’s like he’s saying: I already love everything about you, so you can ask me anything, I won’t get upset or mad, give me your worst, give me your thorns and I will you show hands ready to bleed.

the scene where andrew picks neil up from the airport pretending to be aaron is so goddamn funny, firstly because he's not even trying and his behavior is so quintessentially andrew that he only gets away with it because of how early in the book this scene is, and secondly because of the sheer comedy gold of neil's narration saying "this is aaron, he is the normal one" followed almost immediately by "aaron" walking out into traffic without looking and nearly getting hit by a car.

the way neil doesn't understand why andrew holds his life and safety in so low regard and wouldn't cared if he lived or died, comes to realize andrew has been so thoroughly failed by the system and the people around him leading him to truly believe he has no worth outside of the protection he can give others, and then vows to not only watch andrew's back but to defend him against the people who continually misunderstand and demonize him is somethign I'm actually really normal about

neil allowing himself to be so easily moved by andrew when he fights tooth and nail against everybody else never fails to make me feel insane. like even people neil trusts / knows have good attentions he fights against, most notably wymack when he gets back from evermore. and then u have neil with andrew who he lets into his space so easily who can push him, pin him, grab him, and neil never flinches and never fights bcus the trust he has in him is so absolute.

i think its a really nice understated way to show the flipside of the whole "hey how'd you get andrew to do this thing?" "oh i just asked" dynamic because andrew is presented as this immovable wall that does what he wants and only what he wants to an unreasonable degree, and then throughout the series you see him "fold" for neil over and over again. so it's very easy to point at andrew and go "hey look at how special he treats neil" but by virtue of neil being the narrator you kinda forget that the opposite is happening as well.

The best thing about Neil’s interactions with Ichirou is that they show he has the ability to choose his words carefully and show respect/submission when necessary for his own safety… and he just chose not to do that before. His pride is a pricey queen that will only bow to a certain caliber of threat. He needs to be confronted by a high enough level of murderous mob member before he finally unlocks the ability to use his filter. He has it in his lil duffle bag, but he stores it in there for safe keeping unless shit is really going down.
