Here's the truth: the Doctors went to Maine. Theo was with them then. Dates line up. Directly after he made friends with cold and surface tension, after bridges became accomplices in crime, three Doctors made home in the forests of Maine. Here lies information that stares you in the face like a corpse without eyelids.

Here is also the truth: Theo has no memories of Maine. He remembers Maryland, remembers Chicago. Remembers the east coast and remembers hating it. Remembers sections of Canada and being coached in Latin and French and cultural assimilation. Remembers his first real kill in Ohio. He remembers every state surrounding Maine, but forgets the feeling of its dirt on his paws.
