in light of recent events, i am seeing a lot of posts talking about punching nazis and fighting nazis. and that is good and all, but at the end of the day it is worthless if your activism starts and ends at condemning the nazi salute. antisemitism and nazism are more than sieg heiling and spray painting swastikas on a wall.

if you truly care about nazism, learn about its characteristics. learn what it really means. learn how it has affected and still affects jewish people. learn about antisemitism, about dogwhistles, about stereotypes. learn how to identify it when it's hidden, when it's not coming from right-wing white supremacists who openly hate jews, when it's coming from friends, or relatives, or other left-wing groups. identify what antisemitic beliefs you hold. fight antisemitism even when it is directed at jews you don't like or you disagree with.

and, above everything, support the jewish community. learn about their history, their culture, their customs. love jews more than you hate nazis.

international holocaust remembrance day is next week (january 27th). if you truly want to be an ally to the jewish community, condemning elon musk is not enough.

You still woke up today. You still exist, despite policies being written which erase your existence. It will be hard, but as long as you exist, it is a protest. To feel joy is a protest. Do not let them rob you of life. You not only deserve to survive, you deserve to live.

To the people wanting to be informed about politics but are being overwhelmed with information, anxiety, stress, and uncertainty. Doom scrolling, seeing clips, trying to get the latest snip-it of what’s going on can be information overload (especially to someone newly paying attention to politics.)

I would really recommend people looking into left-leaning podcasts and political talk shows. It’s an environment where people who have like 10+ years experience can not only tell you the news, but these people also have the ability to break topics down and explain the possibilities going forward.

It can be educational. It can make certain topics easier to understand. It will be cathartic to see these people reacting to news stories. Because they can say, “this could be very bad,” then take a step back and also say, “here’s how this might be impeded,” or “here’s what people can do to prepare.” Hearing a calm response will help people not be overloaded with doomerism, and also keep people informed (and hopeful).

(My recommendation is The Majority Report with Sam Seder. On YouTube/Twitch. I think it’s a good starting point. I listen to it while I work. But try some stuff, look around for something that works for you.)

you've got 2 admit that the oft repeated command to "touch grass" in itself illustrates a great disconnect from the tru wholesomeness of the offline world. unless you meant a kind of wild grass, a lovely tassel cord rush or even the humble rattlesnake grass. but we know that's not what they mean. to the chronically online, grass = lawn and nothing more. and a lawn is an abomination on par with the worst brainworms big online has to offer. touching a lawn will not help you. You've got to go injure yourself on some swordgrass for god's sake
