"dub.tape" is not meant as either title or description, but from the beginning of making this music i imagined it on cassette - an unexpected homage, tribute, postlude to the collection of grey cassette tapes i had as a teenager, dubbed copies of punk, noise, and folk songs: i'd play them on a battery operated boombox squeezed between the front seats of the battered old volkswagon rabbit i inherited from my older brother, turned up loud over the rattle of the diesel engine, squealing codes and signals of distant, expansive thoughts and ways of being, feedback guitars and (im)possible poetry. a model of praise and dedication.
this music was made quickly, with simple tools: only a borrowed bass (thanks lysh!!), a plastic recorder, two small shakers from the dollar store, and an 8 inch tambourine. now, as then, speeding through the darkness searching for loud joy and strange beauty.

“The individual life is distinguished from all other things by the rectilinear course of its movement, which, so to speak, cuts through the circular movements of biological life. This is mortality: to move along a rectilinear line in a universe where everything, if it moves at all, moves in a cyclical order.”

Revolution C by Construction & Destruction / Steven Lambke
Construction & Destruction / Steven Lambke
Revolution C
Limited Edition Cassette (30 copies)/Digital
We leave space in our music. The space, which some might call silence, becomes a place of conversation. It has the shape of a worn wooden table, with light falling on it, and surrounded by old wooden chairs. Light outside is filled with weather and black birds. Inside, light is an invitation.
We three are quiet people, but excitable. We’ve known each other a long time. We have slept at each other’s houses. We have stayed awake long through the night, driving after the show, or in a frenzy of discussion. We know each other’s work as well as anyone.
Revolution C is the document of a day in a long conversation. It is named after the studio in Toronto where it was recorded. Each songwriter expressing their particular concern, each supported by the others. Room C is the small room, still grand to us who work most often in our own homes, surrounded by dogs, or threatened by the tyranny of neighbours. Revolution is a measure of turning back, a cycle, and also a progress, a turning over, a complete and utter change. Letter the changes so they can be recognized.
Construction & Destruction are Colleen Collins and David Trenaman. They live and work in Port Greville NS. Steven Lambke is a songwriter based in Toronto, ON or Sackville, NB depending on the season. We deal in fragments and used books, shards of bone and mirror. Â Â Â Â Â Â
Written and performed by Colleen Collins, David Trenaman, and Steven Lambke
Recorded in Toronto at Revolution Recording Studio C by Phil Hotz, assisted by Andrew Doidge. Â Â Â Â Â

Something invisible, waiting to be seen, rising, swimming in the depths, disturbing the surface of the water. Hear it breathing, blowing blue water, blowing grey water. A dark outline. A split tail. A fin. An imagined thing, with imagined teeth, and real teeth. How does this dark mass feed? On its invisibility, on my desire for it, on my hope (a hearty meal!), on my wish to see. A ridge along the back, jagged spine curved to dive.
Performing live, with musical accompaniment:
Wednesday October 17 - Thunder & Lightning, Sackville, NB
Thursday, October 18 - Halifax Pop Explosion, Gus’s Pub, Halifax, NS

Watch me firework.
Watch me turtle.
When you draw a circle
you can begin anywhere
The sky goes dark
with crows and eagles
an arched cathedral
overhead.
Tell me a story,
beginning and ending.
Mostly what happens
happens again.
This time I’m listening:
leaves rustling;
feet shuffling
towards the door;
dust and coughing;
“you call that singing?”.
I’m always beginning
again.
A flower explodes,
dust and pollen,
I hear someone calling
my name.
My squeaky blood
started swirling
like an old planet turning
on a rusted hinge.
The sunlight is shocking.
It often comes early.
It was there in the morning
after the show.
I made you a coffee.
You opened the curtain.
My head was hurting
today.
I felt like a scarecrow.
I hid like a turtle.
When you draw a circle
you can begin anywhere.
Folded ticket.
Lucky numbers.
It’s the middle of summer
but you can start anywhere.

"The songs on Days Of Heaven were written with an attitude of great intimacy. They are addressed to the one listening, who may be all listeners, or none. We came to the big stage of the Mod Club. We had by this time toured across the country. We’d crossed the mountains and the prairies and the great Canadian Shield. We came very far to try and say something very simple: you know me well, as I am, and as I wish to be. May we all find someone to whom we can speak.”
