The Cowboys Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, we pause at this time, mindful of the many blessings you have bestowed upon us. We ask, Lord, that you will be with us in the arena of life.
We as cowboys do not ask for special favors. We don’t ask to draw around the chute fighting horse, the steer that won’t lay, or to never break the barrier. We don’t even ask for all daylight runs.
We do ask Lord, that you will help us live our lives here on earth as cowboys, in such a manner, that when we make that last inevitable ride, to the country up there, where the grass grows lush, green, and stirrup high, and the water runs cool, clear, and deep, that you’ll take us by the hand and say :
“Welcome to Heaven cowboy, your entry fees are paid.”

“So God Made a Farmer”
Many different people are going to have many different opinions on what commercial won the Super Bowl commercial contest, but to me, the choice is clear. It was hands down the Dodge Ram “Farmer” piece set to Paul Harvey’s “so God made a farmer” narration. The two minute long commercial was the perfect marriage of photographic imagery, voice and message.
At the end of the day, I know Dodge wants to sell as many trucks as possible, but there is a different feeling about this piece. It touches on so many things and informs, encourages, thanks and inspires.
The commercial could have been good, heck we might be talking about it the same way, if it were set to video. But, the gritty, beautiful imagery that the photography conveyed was absolutely amazing. It’s also quite evident that this piece had a lot of thought put into it.
Dodge could have scoured Getty Images or some other stock agency for farm life images, but it didn’t. According to the official press release:
“The Ram Truck brand commissioned 10 noted photographers…to document American farm life, yielding a beautiful and comprehensive catalog of farming images.”
It’s very heartening and touching, from a photographer’s point of view, that enough was put into this project to take those lengths to get the images for the commercial. Hats off to Dodge and I applaud them for creating one of the most compelling two minute pieces I have ever seen.
The entire press release is available here.

Quote
And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, “I need a caretaker.” So God made a farmer. God said, “I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the field, milk cows again, eat supper, then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board.” So God made a farmer. God said, “I need somebody willing to sit up all night with a newborn colt and watch it die, then dry his eyes and say,’Maybe next year,’ I need somebody who can shape an ax handle from an ash tree, shoe a horse with hunk of car tire, who can make a harness out hay wire, feed sacks and shoe scraps. Who, during planting time and harvest season will finish his 40-hour week by Tuesday noon and then, paining from tractor back, put in another 72 hours.” So God made the farmer. God said, “I need somebody strong enough to clear trees and heave bales, yet gentle enough to yean lambs and wean pigs and tend the pink-comb pullets, who will stop his mower for an hour to splint the leg of a meadowlark.” It had to be somebody who’d plow deep and straight and not cut corners. Somebody to seed, weed, feed, breed, and brake, and disk, and plow, and plant, and tie the fleece and strain the milk, . Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft, strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh, and then sigh and then reply with smiling eyes when his son says that he wants to spend his life doing what Dad does. “So God made a farmer.”

Ladies, wait for a good, strong, Christ following man who will protect and encourage you; don't settle for just some boy. Guys, wait for a woman with a pure heart and honest passion for God who will build you up; don't settle for just some girl.
