Perhaps they were divorced?

“He might be in the infirmary. I know he makes frequent visits there, for some reason.” Not that Sakuya cared, but this man was currently blocking his only way of exit so he needed to get him out of his hair somehow.

“Oh...” Ryuuji shifted uncomfortably on his feet. He deserved that, he thought. He hadn’t been the most attentive father, always working overtime and his head full of experiments and ideas. But ever since his wife’s health began to decline, he had been trying to be more supportive to his family but of course some things weren’t easy to mend. 

“Well I don’t think it’s likely because your doctor is out of town to attend an award ceremony today. It’s impressive isn’t it? His latest experiment is a scientific breakthrough!”

"I'm sorry, have we met?"

“I don’t think so!” He extended his hand with a smile. “My name is Ryuuji Kawara.”

Ryuuji didn’t know what to make any of it. For now it seemed like there was nothing he could do. Maybe his colleagues would find a way to rescue him... Maybe...

“I... I think I could use a drink right now.” What else was there to do?

Ryuuji could see how skeptical the boy was. It wouldn’t be unusual for a father to pick up his son from school. Maybe he didn’t believe him. But most importantly Ryouta had already left school!

“He really isn’t here? But I thought we agreed to meet here and go out to eat together!”  He really hoped he wasn’t forgetting something again.

At least he wasn’t sure how. Even if he managed to remake the experiment, there was no guarantee that he would return to his own world. He tried not to let panic take over him. There had to be a way!

Ryuuji tried to concentrate on the last moments at the lab. His memory was still a little fuzzy, but he recalled sparks from an exploding equipment and then he was being pulled to the other side of the room, the face of his colleagues in fear...

“Say.. You don’t happen to know a place called Littledove Hachiman City, do you?”
