caretaker’s head snapped up as they heard whumpee enter their bedroom. Their eyebrows furrowed as they watched whumpee shuffle into their bedroom.
“Hey, sweetie. What happened?” Caretaker got up from their desk and walked over to whumpee, looking down at them. Whumpee murmured something incomprehensible before slightly leaning forward and wrapping their arms around Caretaker’s back, burning their head into their chest.
Caretaker nearly stumbled back at the impromptu hug and just stood there, staring down at whumpee. They then let out an almost inaudible sigh and wrapped their arms around whumpee, one around whumpee’s back and the other brushing through whumpee’s hair.
“It’s ok, honey…we’ll be ok…”

When Whumpee got out, they thought everything would be okay again. Whumper was in prison, Caretaker was around, and Whumpee was safe.
That was until they woke up with the news right outside their house, pointing cameras at them. Caretaker closed the windows and took Whumpee back to their bedroom.
“What’s going on?” Whumpee asked, so desperately confused and a more than a little scared.
Caretaker hesitated “Whumpee… the videos…”
The blood drained from Whumpee’s face. The videos. Someone had released Whumper’s videos of Whumpee’s torture. And now the public knew what Whumpee did to stop the agony.

today we are thinking about internal damage! internal bleeding, punctured lungs, ruptured organs, all that good shit that can’t be seen form the outside but will cause unbearable agony for whumpee’s innards! does anyone believe them when they say how much it hurts, or are they forced to suffer in silence until their body just can’t take it anymore?

Thinking about forced surgeries rn...
Whumpee strapped down on an operating table, dry heaving from the sheer terror, eyes wide open. No anaesthesia whatsoever, the feeling of cold metal against flesh. Screams, thrashing, loud gasps with each incision made.
Or the horror of being put under by complete strangers, in an unfamiliar place. He knows it's useless to fight it. Labored breaths before eventually surrendering to the drugs, despite his brain screaming at him not to.
Or waking up in an ice bath with stitches on his abdomen. Confused and hazy, feeling nothing but a horrible emptiness. The throbbing pain and the horrible realisation setting in as he slowly comes to.
So so so many options.... Very bad things ..

Whumpee who is recovering after the whumpTM, but it's not going great. They're so frustrated with themselves, with their caretakers, just with everything. Everyone is so soft and understanding and it bothers them and they want to scream, but they know they should be grateful.
Until Caretaker comes along. Caretaker isn't 'nice' like the others, they don't take bullshit. They're good for Whumpee, but they don't baby them. They treat them like an adult with anatomy, and it's so refreshing for Whumpee.
"You want to stay up, fine. But you will tell me when you can't anymore, because if I have to drag you off the floor we're both in trouble. Understand?"
"Stop whining. What do you need?" (And then they get or do whatever it is without issues or judgement.)
"Want to tell me why you're doing worse today?" -- "No..." -- "Okay."
"Where does it hurt?" -- "It doesn-" -- "Don't give me that, I can see it hurts. Now tell me where."
Caretaker trusts Whumpee to know what they need, and lets them know again and again they won't take this nonsense of hiding their pain. They're practical, and kind, and Whumpee needed that.

How about a caretaker that's compassionate and caring and a whumpee that's just too practical for that shit
"oh no no no what have they done to you!!" Caretaker running in, cupping whumpee's face. "2 burns, small stab wound and a pretty bad beating to the ribs--what are you doing, why are you hugging me"
Whumpee trying to not act traumatized because you gotta fake it till you make it.
"whumpee. This is not HEALTHY." "It's healing, look, it's almost totally scarred over."
"caretaker, please, just bring your sewing kit." "But I don't have any anaesthetic!" "Ugh, fine, I'll do it."
"fuck, how could anyone do this to you?" "That's not really a productive question..."
"he told me to hold still because I deserved it." "You don't deserve this, nobody does." "Yeah I know but it made the brand scar come out perfectly. See? It's recognizable..."
"you can't just take responsibility for everyone's lives, whumpee." "I'm the strongest one of us, so yes, I can." "It's not healthy!" Whumpee shrugs in response, already out the door with a gun over their shoulder.

cradling them into your arms, blood smearing all over you
^ they try to smile, followed by an immediate hiss
"it hurts, huh."
"shh, it's gonna be fine. please keep talking." "i can't.. t-talk-"
their blood smudged hand reach for your cheek. eyes trying to focus on you
"i.. love you."
"this is not your fault."
"i can't.. *tearing up* i can't feel your touch."
eyes tearing up, not knowing what to tell you
"it hurts so much, it's so.." frustrated tears flow because there's nothing they can do now
"please don't leave me.." "i want to rest, my love."
hugging them, saying something to them and then panicking, when they don't respond. (bonus points if one said i love you and the other died right after hearing it!!)
wincing between every word.
"I'm- so...so sorry."
"You're my heaven o-on earth, did you k-know that? :)" followed my an attempt at a smile that shreds you apart.
constant shortness of breath.
they take your hand and kiss it, griping it tight. it's when their grip loosens, you know...
"You've to live your life, [name]. You need to survive, and move on, and-and be.. happy. The happiest. just like i am now."
^ "why are you happy--now?" "because i get to die in your arms. the safest place.."
noticing a tear rush down their cheek after they've closed their eyes.
"no, no-no, fuck, [name], don't give up on me like that, please-please.. stay.."
"I'm gonna get you--" "no, no, no.. no don't. don't l-leave me alone, [name]. I can't br-breathe..."
"let go of me, love, I'm gonna sleep now."
lying near their cold unmoving body.
^ holding their limb hand, praying that this is all a nightmare and then you can wake up to their cheerful self. stupid hope.

literally had a dream last night that I was repeatedly stabbed in the stomach, by some random guy that didn’t exist in real life, and then sent to the hospital where they tended to the wound as well as putting a breathing mask over my face and such. all the detailed medical procedures were literally performed on me in the dream.
anyway, what I think is interesting is that I believe this would have been considered a nightmare for most people. but as someone who likes whump, that was one of the best dreams I’ve had in months. the whumperflies felt so real and I got to be the whumpee.
like… honestly, it wasn’t “terrifying” at all. it was just a good whumpy dream. a very good one, in fact. I would have thought there was something wrong with me for enjoying that, hadn’t I found this amazing community in which we all found art and beauty in what most people considered grotesque.
thank you whump community for making me feel so valid. here’s to hoping we all get dreams like this more ♡

How to Make Caretaker's Heart Sink
Something that made Caretaker's chest sink and feel heavy and painful
When Caretaker saw Whumpee for the first time after disappearing for a long time, he was very weak and even unconscious,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee lying still on his bed, too sick and tired to even open his eyes and make a sound,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee's weak hand, he moved around looking for Caretaker's hand because he didn't want to leave it,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who struggled because he was uncomfortable, he tried to remove the medical device while he was in a semi-conscious phase,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who had to be helped even just to drink,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee screaming in fear in the middle of the night,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who was uncomfortable while sleeping, moving restlessly in his delirium
When Caretaker saw Whumpee's blank stare,
When Caretaker bathing and putting clean clothes on Whumpee,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee crying silently,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee, who was confused about the things he had forgotten due to trauma,
When Caretaker heard Whumpee groan in pain while sleeping,
When Caretaker heard weak words from Whumpee's mouth, like "Hurt" "Water "Help me" "I can't breathe" "My body feels heavy" "My head feels spinning",
When Caretaker felt Whumpee's weak and thin body in her arms,
When Caretaker saw Whumpee's body, which was covered in bandages and bruises,
Is there anything else to add?

Caretaker finds whumpee bound and gagged, unable to move and whimpering for their attention. Caretaker skids to their knees and pulls whumpee into their arms.
Whumpee, with their arms behind their back, can only press their face hard into caretaker's shoulder.

*Whump is a term where fictional characters got hurt (be it physical or emotional), people enjoy whump for various reasons (some use whump as a coping mechanism, some use whump to heal from their trauma, some like whump for sexual reasons, some just like whump for reasons that aren't sexual and some like it for reason that aren't related to personal trauma). You can see whump in a movie, a TV show, a book or a fanfic.
Whumpee refers to characters who are victims / characters who were hurt.
Caretaker refers to characters who come for whumpees' rescue / characters who helps nurse whumpees back to health.
Whumper refers to characters who inflict pain on whumpees.
Fun fact about me: I only imagine myself/my Blorbo (most of the times it's both me and the Blorbo at the same time, like we've become the same person) in whumpee's POV (so it's me/my Blorbo as whumpee) and that's also the only way I can get whumperflies. I've been doing this — imagining a whump scenario to sleep — since I was a kid (probably when I was about 7) and back then I had no idea what whump was, only that doing it felt nice and whumperflies (something I didn't know at that time) felt nice, so I've been doing it since :)

if you're trying to get into the head of your story's antagonist, try writing an "Am I the Asshole" reddit post from their perspective, explaining their problems and their plans for solving them. Let the voice and logic come through.

Whumpee comes home and everything seems fine. They're talking, they're laughing, everyone is walking on eggshells around them but Whumpee is just the same as if nothing had happened at all. The months go by and everyone lets their guard down.. Maybe forgetting really is the best move, don't dwell and just move on.
And then one day Whumpee just stops. Maybe they're hanging out with friends. Maybe they're just walking down the street. Or maybe they're alone. But they just stop whatever they were doing, and on the outside they appear frozen like they've turned to ice.
But on the inside it's like a rushing wave of emotions bursting through the dam, pain, fear, grief, anger, all washing over them all at once. It's overwhelming and if anyones nearby, they don't understand. They can't get through to them. Maybe whumpees still frozen, able to be coaxed to sit down as others worry "should we call an ambulance?". Maybe someone notices tears running down their face, and they realise what's happening. They envelop Whumpee in a careful embrace, warm, comforting and giving Whumpee the chance to escape. But they just collapse into their arms, breaking out into sobs that have been building up for a long time.
They never took the time to process anything that happened to them, and now a lifetimes worth of feelings crashes into them all at once.

Whumpee who is usually carefree, a comic relief type of character. They go through something horrible, but even once they're being rescued, they crack jokes. "Oh, my very own hero coming for me, how romantic!" - "Sorry the place is a mess, if I knew you were coming I would've cleaned up."
When they're back at home/a save place, they still keep up the facade. They smile and grin, just happy to be back. But they also use it to hide the reality of the situation. Because this is who they are. This is who they're supposed to be in the group; they make the others laugh. People don't worry about them, they're always fine. They can't stand the pity on their faces, the worried looks. So they smile and laugh and joke, see? They're fine!
Until a few days later, when Caretaker has left the house and Whumpee is alone for the first time since their rescue. And without anyone to pretend for, they break down. They fight against it at first, but the reality of everything that happened catches up with them, until they're sobbing, face buried in their hands.
Caretaker comes back and sees them like this, and Whumpee instantly tries to smile, or make a joke to brush it off and deflect. But the words won't come. They see the worry on Caretaker's face, and they can't stop the next sob from escaping them.
Caretaker doesn't judge, they're not even shocked. They knew Whumpee was hiding their pain, it was only a matter of time before it came out. So they sit next to them, wrapping an arm around their shoulder and letting them cry, telling them it's okay.
Whumpee let's out all the pain they've been hiding, the trauma and the loss of self they've been experiencing.
After, they feel a bit better. The road to recovery will be a long one, but with Caretaker by their side, they think they can handle it.
They smile at Caretaker. It's not the same smile they wore before everything happened, it might never be the same, but this time, it's genuine.

Dull eyes, hazy and unfocused, look up through the muzzle wrapped tightly around their owner's face. A heavy shuddering sigh escapes through the small breathing holes that whistle when they pant. A hand carefully traces over the muzzle, and the twitch of muscle beneath it can't decide whether it wants to lean closer or flinch back.
The hand drifts to the back of the muzzle, and rests at the clasps.
