idk man one time the heath dept. wanted to donate 1000 condoms and dental dams to the local annual Pride event I help organize but I couldn’t get to the health dept. during their open hours so someone with the health dept handed them off to a librarian they know and i got a text to go pick up 1000 condoms & dental dams at the library.

as you can imagine, that’s not usually in the library’s catalogue but our library is hugely involved in supporting community events.

so i walked into the library and said someone left a box for Pride and the librarian said “oh you must be Story 😊” and handed me a bag of 1000 condoms and dental dams

and I said “thanks while I’m here can you look up a book for me?”

so then I left with 1000 condoms and dental dams and 1 Ursula K. Le Guin book.

My brother in law recently became a veterinarian and it has really driven the point home as to how fucking bonkers veterinary medicine is. We don't expect human physicians to really know much outside of their own specialty - a dentist, an otolaryngologist, and a maxillofacial surgeon are three totally different dudes. Meanwhile a veterinarian at a wildlife rehab center is doing orthopedic surgery on a hawk and then doing rounds on baby hedgehogs in the hedgehog NICU and administering antibiotics to a ratsnake. And he also knows how to perform surgical interventions on a cow! What the fuck! Those are all totally, wildly different kinds of animal!!

Shout out to veterinarians, they know Too Much.

Back in 2013, I posted a Welcome to Night Vale fic and someone commented, “I’m autistic and I see myself a lot in the way you write Carlos. Did you intend for him to autistic?”

And I was like “I’m flattered you think so! No, he’s not intended to be autistic, but I’m glad you can see yourself in him.”

Now twelve years later I spent some time this evening trying to track down that comment to give a very belated clarification. Whoever you were stranger, hey. I only said no because I based Carlos heavily on me, and since I wasn’t autistic, Carlos wouldn’t be either. Well. I’ve learned some stuff in the intervening decade that strongly support your literary analysis.
