At her own risk

She knew.

Love was a trap, a trap that ensared the hopeful and released the broken. Love left people empty, broken, and wishing they'd never felt the icy touch of its wrath.

But, she had heard stories. Stories that love could be kind, and warm, and nice. That love would fill her otherwise grey life with color.

She took a chance.

And love took her for the fool that she was.

She fell in love. And boy did she fall. She fell hard and fast, and all too quickly realized, there was no one to catch her.

She came crashing down, and her heart shattered into a thousand shards of regret. No one would ever be able to fix her. And in her process of picking of the pieces, those fragments cut her.

It was then that she realized. Love isn't cold, cruel, or harsh. And yet, love wasn't warm, inviting, or comforting either. Love was indifferent. Love was distant. And she wished, oh god she wished, that she knew that before she gave in to that desired undesirable feeling.

I loved you. The way you held my hand. The way you laughed. The way you'd smile. The way your eyes lit up when you talked about your passions. The way you obsessed over the stars, the sunset, and all things beautiful.

I loved you. I loved your hair. I loved your eyes. I loved how, no matter what you always said things would be okay, and somehow, someway, they always were.

I loved you. I loved the thoughts you would share. I loved the way your mind worked; a beautiful mess. I loved how you were so kind to everyone and everything.

And yes, I loved you.
