regulus arcturus is quite a big name, especially for someone who was a CHILD their entire life. so i'm pretty sure he would have some nicknames for it - Reggie, Reg, yk. of course, he's all Tough and Dark on the outside, so the only person allowed to call him that is his beloved brother, sirius. as we all know, sirius gets disowned and runs off to live with the potters when he's 15-16. when the two finally reunite at hogwarts, it's bad. sirius doesn't want to lose his brother. ori*n and w*lburga told regulus that sirius is a traitor, a muggle lover and shit, also he probably said a couple bad things about regulus too, so reg is mad at him. sirius tries to talk, calls him reggie. regulus punches him in the face. they never talk again. years later, when the inferi are dragging regulus to the lake's bottom, drowning him, he thinks about the last person who truly loved him. the person who chose the right thing way before him and tried to get him to see what was right, and he pushed him away. he thinks about the last time they talked. how sirius called him his childhood nickname. how he punched him for it. it's the last thing regulus thinks.

Regulus can’t help but resent Sirius a little more each passing year at Hogwarts. It’s not that Sirius somehow succeeded in leaving their family, choosing his friends over his blood, and it’s not that the whole school worships his every move like some leather jacketed god. Regulus resents him because he found a new family that’s everything his isn’t; kind, loving, and unflinchingly loyal. He’ll never have that. He’ll never have someone he can trust with his secrets, no one to pass notes to during class, no one to spend the day with in Hogsmeade. He had Sirius once, but he left without a lasting glance, so why would anyone else stay?

What Regulus doesn’t know is that every night, when Sirius pulls Remus up to the astronomy tower and they watch the stars shoot across the sky, Sirius wishes for one thing. Please give me my little brother back.
