What if in the future people will eventually stop using the phrase ‘I don’t know’ and replace it with ‘IDK’. And then even further into the future it will become its own word spelled ‘Ideka’. Even further than that what if a girl is posting random facts somewhere and says in the post DID YOU KNOW IDEKA USED TO MEAN IDK WHICH WAS SHORT FOR I DONT KNOW! And like everyone will be impressed that she knew its translation because it was considered a retired word. I feel like that will take effect somewhere in the year 5000 but ideka.

i just want to begin by emphasising that this content is obviously incredibly triggering to many people (myself included) so if possible, try and tag this as appropriately as you can. 

for those who aren’t aware, calling a black or brown person a monkey is one of the most dehumanising forms of racism that was used to justify genocide, imperialism, eugenics and later nazism in the 19th and 20th centuries. better known as social darwinism, it’s quite literally instilled on the belief that people of colour are closer related to monkeys and are therefore less than human. you’re repeating the same mentality that was rampant in the most aggressively racist periods in history. i don’t care if you genuinely think a black or brown person looks like a monkey, because firstly i can assure you they don’t and secondly i can certainly assure you they do not resemble an animal more than the actual animal itself. 

the thing is, features of black and brown people are so ostracized in society that people will liken us and think of us as animals before we are thought of as people. bob (the same person ya’ll call white passing btw) has large nostrils, darker skin, different hair and thicker lips than most white peeps so when people see these features that are not often represented in omnipresent white media, the features are mocked. truth of the matter is, bob and other black and brown folks bare no resemblance to monkeys or apes, you only think that bc of racist conditioning by white media. and if you ever say that any black or brown person does look like an ape, i want you to know you’re dehumanising a real person. you’re trying to rob us of our basic humanity because we look different than you. and that is racism in it’s most horrifying degree. 

if im honest i’m not sure how many more posts poc have to do explaining this to you all but i’m tired. i’m tired of having to explain to a certain section of this fandom why it’s racist to refer to bob/bellamy as white or moreover say he has “white treatment”. i’m tired of explaining why it’s racist to actively try and strip the minuscule representation south east asians do get (which is even less than white LGBT+ rep btw) by telling us he doesn’t count or he doesn’t matter. i’m tired of having to explain why spamming him with tweets saying “ching chong” is racist and not even remotely funny. i’m also tired of explaining why it’s shitty to then turn around and call him whiny every time he tries to speak out against racism (+++). 

but the tweets calling bob/bellamy a monkey in a clearly malicious manner are, to be frank, some of the most disgusting displays i’ve seen of violent racism in 2 years of this white feminist fandom. it’s not just tiring anymore; it’s triggering, it’s revolting and most of all it’s quite literally reciting the same racist rhetoric that was used by white supremacist propaganda in the 1800-1900s. 

i always try and be as well-spoken as i can be on these posts but i’m just going to get straight to the point; if you ever refer to bob morley or any other person of colour a monkey or an ape, say we have “monkey-like features” or look more like a monkey than an actual monkey, fuck you.

Why am I crying? I liked SHINee for awhile a few years back but I wouldn’t say I was a SHOWAL or whatever it’s called. I remember watching Kim Jonghyun on SNL Korea skits on YouTube and laughing like crazy. It just sucks that a person who made me smile is gone.
