Part 2: Collateral Damage
The tension between Jill and Wanda hit a breaking point just before lunch.
It happened in the courtyard, where Jill was sitting on a bench with her lunch tray, reading Hamlet for what felt like the hundredth time. She was trying to tune out the chatter of students around her when Wanda’s voice cut through the noise like a knife.
“Walker, shouldn’t you be in the library?”
Jill didn’t bother looking up. “Shouldn’t you be in a reality TV show about shallow people with bad taste?”
Wanda’s friends burst out laughing, and Jill felt a flicker of satisfaction. But Wanda wasn’t one to let a jab go unanswered. She strode over, her heeled boots clicking against the stone path, and snatched the book out of Jill’s hands.
“Let me guess,” Wanda said, flipping through the pages. “This is, like, your favourite book or something?”
Jill stood up, towering over Wanda by half an inch. “Give it back, Maximoff.”
“Make me.”
Jill’s eyes narrowed, and before she could think better of it, she lunged for the book. Wanda stepped back, holding it out of reach, and Jill’s momentum sent them both crashing into a nearby table.
Food trays went flying. A glass of orange juice tipped over, soaking Wanda’s blouse, and a container of spaghetti landed squarely on Jill’s shoulder.
The courtyard fell silent.
“Oh, this is so your fault,” Wanda hissed, her face red with embarrassment.
“My fault?” Jill snapped, wiping spaghetti sauce off her sleeve. “You started it!”
“You’re unbelievable,” Wanda said, throwing the soggy book at Jill’s feet before stomping off toward the dorms.
“Yeah, keep running, Maximoff!” Jill called after her, ignoring the curious stares from the other students.
——————————————————————————
By the time Headmaster Grey summoned them to her office an hour later, Jill’s temper had cooled, but her shirt still smelled faintly of marinara sauce. Wanda, sitting in the chair next to her, looked equally annoyed, her wet blouse replaced with a clean one.
“I don’t know what’s worse,” Grey said, pacing behind her desk, “the fact that you two disrupted lunch or the fact that you both refuse to grow up.”
“Respectfully, Headmaster,” Wanda said, her voice dripping with faux politeness, “it was entirely her fault.”
“My fault?” Jill repeated, her voice rising. “You took my book!”
“Enough!” Grey snapped, silencing them both. She folded her arms and leaned against the desk, fixing them with a sharp glare. “Clearly, whatever this is needs to be dealt with. So, congratulations, ladies—you’ll be sharing a dorm room for the rest of the year.”
Wanda looked horrified. “You can’t be serious.”
Jill groaned. “You’re punishing me for her inability to keep her hands to herself?”
Grey ignored their protests. “Maybe spending time together will teach you how to coexist without acting like children. Dismissed.”
——————————————————————————
Their new room was on the third floor of Xavier Hall, tucked into a quiet corner of the building. Jill hauled her suitcase inside and froze.
Wanda was already there, sitting cross-legged on the bed by the window, scrolling through her phone. The other bed was shoved against the opposite wall, leaving just enough space for a desk and a shared wardrobe.
“I’m taking this side,” Wanda said without looking up.
“Obviously,” Jill muttered, dragging her suitcase to the other bed.
The room smelled faintly of lavender and something citrusy—Wanda’s perfume, Jill guessed. She unpacked in silence, carefully stacking her books on the desk and shoving her clothes into the wardrobe.
“You’re not seriously bringing all those books, are you?” Wanda asked, her voice laced with disdain.
“Why, is it going to cramp your style?” Jill shot back.
Wanda rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”
——————————————————————————
The first night was a disaster.
Jill stayed up late, reading by the soft glow of her desk lamp, while Wanda complained about the light. When Jill finally turned it off, Wanda started scrolling through her phone, the screen casting an irritating blue glow across the room.
“Can you not?” Jill snapped.
“It’s my room too,” Wanda retorted, pulling the blanket over her head but keeping her phone on.
By morning, Jill was already dreading the year ahead.
——————————————————————————
A week later, the walls between them showed their first crack.
It happened after one of the dorm parties, a regular occurrence at Xavier. Jill had gone to keep an eye on her siblings, who were becoming far too comfortable mingling with the older students. Wanda, of course, had shown up with her soccer friends, basking in the attention of half the room.
Jill had just managed to drag her brother Charlie away from the beer-pong table when she spotted Wanda slipping out the back door. Something about the way she moved—hurried, tense—made Jill pause.
Against her better judgment, she followed.
She found Wanda sitting on the steps outside, her knees drawn to her chest, her shoulders trembling. Jill hesitated, unsure whether to approach.
“Fuck off, Walker,” Wanda muttered without looking up.
Jill ignored her and sat down anyway, leaving a careful distance between them. “What’s going on?”
“None of your business.”
Jill sighed. “You know, you’re allowed to not be okay. It doesn’t make you weak or whatever you’re afraid of.”
Wanda didn’t respond, but she didn’t tell Jill to leave either. They sat in silence for a while, the cool night air settling around them.
Finally, Wanda spoke, her voice barely above a whisper. “Sometimes I think it’s my fault. That they died because of me.”
Jill turned to look at her, surprised. “Your parents?”
Wanda nodded, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand.
Jill didn’t know what to say. Instead, she reached out, placing a tentative hand on Wanda’s shoulder. It wasn’t much, but it was enough.

So High School - Part 1
-> wanda maximoff x OG!character - high school AU
authors note: hi! this is my first story, so please bare with me 🙏 the story is inspired by taylor swift’s song 'so high school'. not proofread, because i’m too exited about posting. let me know how you like it!!
Part 1: The First Day
The sun was barely up when Jillian Walker woke to the shrill beeping of her alarm clock. She groaned, burying her face into her pillow, but the buzzing of her siblings outside her room quickly reminded her why she couldn’t afford to sleep in.
“JJ!” Louise’s voice came through the door, high-pitched and impatient. “Mom says you need to get up now or we’ll miss the train!”
“I’m up!” Jill shouted back, though she still didn’t move right away. For a moment, she let herself lie there, staring at the water stain on her ceiling and steeling herself for what she already knew would be a long day.
The beginning of another school year at Xavier Academy.
By the time she dragged herself downstairs, the chaos had reached its peak. Vicky was already in tears, Charlie and Benji were bickering over who got to sit by the window on the train, and their mother was pacing in the kitchen, muttering complaints under her breath.
“Jillian!” Her mother whirled around when she saw her. “Where have you been? I can’t do this by myself—help me get these kids moving!”
Jill bit back the sarcastic response that threatened to slip out. “I’ve got it, Mom,” she said instead, grabbing Vicky’s hand and shooing Charlie and Benji toward the door.
It wasn’t until they were finally on the train and the younger kids had settled down that Jill allowed herself to relax. She leaned her head against the window, watching the scenery blur by, and let her thoughts drift to the year ahead.
Her siblings would all be with her at Xavier now, which meant no more sleepless nights worrying about whether they were okay back home. But it also meant constant interruptions, endless questions, and no escape from the responsibilities that always seemed to fall on her shoulders.
At least she had Pietro.
As if on cue, her phone buzzed with a message:
Pietro: Back to the grind, huh? Meet me at the front steps when you get here. We’ve got to scope out the new kids.
Jill rolled her eyes but couldn’t suppress a smile. The first day of school at Xavier Academy was always a spectacle. The courtyard buzzed with activity as students returned from their summer breaks, hugging friends, hauling suitcases, and exchanging updates.
Pietro was waiting for her by the front steps, as promised, his signature cocky grin already in place.
“There’s my favorite genius,” he said, slinging an arm around her shoulders as she approached.
“You say that like you know any other geniuses,” Jill quipped, shaking him off.
“Fair point. Come on, you’ve got to see what Wanda’s wearing. It’s ridiculous.”
Jill’s stomach tightened at the mention of Wanda, though she’d never admit it. Pietro’s twin sister had a way of getting under her skin like no one else.
She didn’t have to look far to find her. Wanda Maximoff stood near the fountain, surrounded by her usual group of friends. She was dressed in a pale pink blouse and denim shorts, her dark hair loose around her shoulders. She was laughing at something one of her friends had said, her green eyes sparkling with amusement.
Jill hated her.
“Walker,” Wanda called out when she spotted her, a smirk curling at the corners of her mouth. “Still dressing like my brother?."
“Maximoff,” Jill shot back, folding her arms. “Still trying to distract everyone from your lack of substance with overpriced clothes?."
The jab landed, and for a split second, Wanda’s smirk faltered. But she recovered quickly, stepping closer with a defiant tilt of her chin.
“At least I know how to dress,” she said. “You look like you just raided a thrift store.”
“Better than looking like I walked out of a magazine no one reads,” Jill said coolly.
Pietro groaned, stepping between them. “Alright, ladies, can we save the insults for later? Some of us would like to enjoy the first day without a full-blown war.”
“Fine,” Wanda said, brushing past Jill with a dramatic flip of her hair. “See you around, Walker. Try not to bore anyone to death with your Shakespeare monologues.”
Jill clenched her fists, biting back a retort. She told herself it was anger that made her heart race whenever Wanda was near. Nothing more.
