Most of the stars are just sprinkled around randomly. However, there are some very deliberate decisions in specific constellations.

Any time Deimos is on screen in the stars there is the Gemini constellation. This is because for this year in 2025 Mars will be visible within this constellation with Deimos being one of its moons. Also moon brothers real

For Hank, they are shown with the Ares constellation. Ares is a ram, known for its strength and perseverance. The description fits Hank as well due to them fueling the machine with constant violence against extreme odds. This depiction of violence is also comparable to Ares, the Greek god of war.

Sanfords is the the most obvious, being scorpio aka the Fish hook constellation ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

I REALLY LIKE HOW THIS ONE TURNED OUT!!! MAVERICK LORE YAYAYAYAYAAY THE SUN IS SOOOOO IMPORTANT TO HIM.

Maverick himself was alive before the red haze covered Nevada's sky. Even to this day he still remembers the warm days and cold nights. The day-night cycle is a comfortable consistency in his unstable life. For context is that for most of his life he only lived in the city with massive walls. The sun calls out for the world beyond and yet he never ventures out, he doesn't even realize that he can.

He doesn't believe he can leave, and even if he could, what would be out there to greet him? For the majority of his life he's an animal with it's cage open, yet he stays until the door eventually closes on him.
