Song Review: Sierra Ferrell - “American Dreaming” (Americana Honors)
Sticking exclusively to the mic and toning down her innate wildness, multi-instrumentalist Sierra Ferrell played the role of crooner in performing “American Dreaming” at the 23rd-annual Americana Honors.
Introduced by the Milk Carton Kids as “the most-underrated artist here,” Ferrell’s spot may have helped nudge Kenneth Pattengale’s prediction toward reality.
“Every single person on Earth knows who Dolly Parton is,” Pattengale said. “And by the time we get a few more years under our belt, everybody on Earth is gonna know who Sierra Ferrell is.”
This was a polished and professional exhibition from Ferrell - perfectly tailored for an event such as this, highlights of which will premiere Nov. 23 on PBS stations nationwide.
It’s but one side of Ferrell, but the others are there for the finding.
The 60-minute highlight reel will also feature appearances from Blind Boys of Alabama, Jobi Riccio, Sarah Jarosz, Dwight Yoakam, Shelby Lynne, Emmylou Harris with Rodney Crowell and others.
