How happy is the blameless vestal’s lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign’d.

"गिरते हैं शहसवार ही मैदान-ए-जंग में, वो तिफ़्ल क्या गिरे जो घुटनों के बल चले।"
[ Rahul Chadha: I just fell from grace.
Saroj Rai: My darling, you have to be standing up in order to be able to fall. I mean, if you keep sitting on your ass, nothing’s gonna happen. “Only brave warriors fall off their horses in battle. How can kneeling cowards know what a fall is?” Listen sweetheart, the main thing is, you have to fight the battle. ]

Reflecting on some of Mani Ratnam’s past female romantic leads, even from just a small subset of his repertoire, there are many strong types of female loves we’ve seen whom Tara could be an extension of. We’ve seen confidence in characters like Aaytha Ezhuthu’s Gigi, who stands by her activist love, and in Sashi, who takes a stand by leaving a toxic relationship for the sake of her own well-being and that of her unborn child. We’ve met Shakthi (Alaipayuthey) and Shaila (Bombay), who struggled with their instincts to quietly obey their parents and those that told them that they might eventually be respected for their conviction in love. Years ago we got to know Roja, arguably Mani Ratnam’s most daring leading lady of all, who literally fought against terrorists to rescue her husband, in the ultimate of all Tamil movie role reversals. These formidably written female characters are each desirable in their own way but are all linked in their appeal to audiences who appreciate authenticity and equality. By introducing the world to such characters Ratnam reminds us all to respect women for the independent, free-thinking and entirely capable equals that they are those that have the ability to fall, win and/or fail in love, and life, just like any hero does.

And why even does the term 'kanyadaan' exist?
i hate certain indian wedding rituals so fucking much. why should the father of the bride wash the groom's feet? why should the bride's parents give away their daughter like she is a fucking burden? why do we treat girls like outsiders once they are married? they are still family ffs, just because she is a wife now doesn't mean she is not your daughter or your sister. why do people cry during bidaai as the bride won't ever come back? marriage is supposed to be a happy occassion and yet, indians treat it as if it's the end of their daughter's life.

SCUBA is an acronym for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Did you know that TUBA is also an acronym?
for Terrible Underwater Breathing Apparatus.

The fact that we collide with certain people in our lives and then we again turn into strangers surprises and terrifies me every single minute. Like the girl who was one of my best friends during middle school, now fails to recognise me on the streets; and that guy who wrote all those stupid yet sweet song lyrics and grew closer to me over seven years... well now we pretend we never even knew each other. It makes me scared every minute when I have a conversation with someone new ; apparently we'll all be lost faces in the crowd again .
