In Korea, after you move houses or after your honeymoon, there is a tradition of inviting your friends and family to your house and having a party of some sort. These are usually lunch or dinner parties where the owner of the house is expected to prepare a meal which everyone would enjoy.
As the invitee, you are expected to bring gifts to the housewarming party. These gifts are usually everyday items such as toilet paper, towels and soap/detergent. Bring toilet paper or soap/detergent has the meaning of “a long lasting, clean household”. The word clean doesn’t have to necessarily mean sanitary. The reason why toilet paper and soap/detergent is the most favourable because they don’t go bad and because they’re everyday objects you can’t live without. But recently, since toilet paper and soap/detergent have become a stereotypical gift, some people opt for other gifts such as wine, plating sets, and more! But be aware that the owner might even get a little mad with you for not bringing an everyday item!
In general, whether it’s a new house or not, it is seen as rude or disrespectful when a guest doesn’t bring a present when they come to someone’s house. When you’re going to someone’s house for a reason other than house warming (e.g. hanging out), you should bring a gift such as fruit or food.

This has been on my mind for a while and as an ally of the LGBT community, I would like to express my gratitude. There is great bravery and courage in being who you are - with anyone really - but I cannot express enough how wonderful and amazing YOU are. I understand that I have a lot of people who identify as part of the LGBT community and I would like to say,
I am proud of you and I support you.
You’ve done well, you’ve fought hard, and you live strong. Pride month is just around the corner (June), and to get you ready I’ve compiled a list of Korean LGBT+ Vocab for you to practice. Enjoy ~
