Mountain biking: a climbing trend
Biking up a mountain is no easy feat, but it has continued to grow as an adventure sport for some time now. According to a recent study from the Outdoor Foundation, 8.3 million people tried mountain biking at least once in 2016 and grew continuously for three years straight.

Mountain biking is definitely achievable with a few good tips. First, I can tell you that the most important prior knowledge to have on mountain biking is to be able to ride a bike. If you have that down, you’ll be just fine.
Tips for a successful ride could be found just about anywhere, such as www.outsideonline.com. All it takes for this adventure sport is a bike, some gear, a trail and some confidence.
Many cities or counties offer trails for community mountain bikers. For example, Broward County, FL. offers mountain bike trials for annual membership fees of $25-$50, or daily fees of $5-$10.
Mountain biking is an amazing experience that has many benefits for the body and mind. Biking is a great workout for the core and legs, as well as a workout for your mind, as you are becoming more aware of your surroundings.
Expanding in popularity, mountain biking is one of the easiest adventure sports to pick up on locally. It doesn’t require much travel, yet it is a thrilling and beneficial escape.

Whitewater rafting: the value of getting cold feet
Whitewater rafting is probably my favorite adventure sport. I go all the time with my family, and at least once a year with my rugby team. It is safe, fun and anyone can do it.
Whitewater rating is known to be very safe when accompanied by raft guides. There are places all over the U.S. that have great whitewater rafting attractions and provide a great staff to walk visitors through it.
According to experienced guide of All-outdoors California Whitewater Rafting, Scott Armstrong, “It’s perceived as risky, but there aren’t a lot of injuries or deaths. Even in fast-moving water, such as Class 4 or 5 rapids, we have a lead boat with guides and a bunch of boats that work together to rescue swimmers”.
One of the best parts about of whitewater rafting is the team effort. It takes all people in the raft to make it work and it is a lot easier knowing you have seven other people on your side.
Rafting makes for amazing bonding on trips and useful life lessons can be learned from the teamwork needed to control the boat. Whitewater rafting has been a great adventure for families with children of all ages, or solo explorers looking to meet new people.
Whitewater rafting can also be found on Groupon and doesn’t have to be expensive. The following picture shows a whitewater rafting trip in Puerto Rico for only $79.99.
Rafting trips only require about a half hour or less of lecture from a guide before your good to go down the river. It makes for a great vacation activity because it is doesn’t require any previous knowledge or skill. Thus, rafting makes for a great adventure to try and doesn’t set you back much.

Bungee jumping: the value of letting go
Bungee jumping, like skydiving is not very inviting to most. However, it can still be done by anyone who is interested, and should be done by anyone looking for a good rush.
Bungee jumping provides a thrill like no other, and lucky for us, it is available throughout the United States. But no matter what I say now, there is no way for you to prepare for it. Nonetheless, it’s a great start to know that bungee jumping has great outcomes and benefits for people willing to but their life on the line...of rope.
The best advice I can give for bungee jumping is to fake it until you make it. Bungee jumping does a lot on your nerves when you’re getting ready to jump from a bridge, but it helps to keep telling yourself that you’re not scared. This bravery tactic can be carried on to help in many other circumstances during life.
Bungee jumping has helped me conquer not only my fear of heights, but gave me the confidence for many situations that I may not have previously had. When I am in a tough position, it helps me think to myself that if I can bungee jump, I can do anything.
Bungee jumping can be an easily planned trip with adventure guides. It can cost between $150-$500 per jump but requires nothing of your own and everything is included. Even though the whole process may usually last a few hours, each jumper is only in the air for about five seconds.
There is not a lot to do in those five seconds except to be afraid and scream, but once they are over it becomes less of a scream and more of a cheer. Taking risks like bungee jumping make the rewards so much more fulfilling.

Skydiving: jump out of your comfort zone
Everyone has their own opinion on skydiving, but we can all agree it seems pretty terrifying. Nonetheless, there is most definitely value to this free fall.
If you think jumping out of a plane is scary and dangerous, you’re not alone. Just to clarify, when I say “you’re not alone”, I mean (1) other people agree with that, and (2) you’re really not all by yourself jumping into the sky.
There are a ton of skydive adventures for beginners that do tandem jumps, which is when a skydive instructor is strapped to the back of the customer as they jump out of the plane. Therefore, you really are not alone in this process. Your job is to enjoy and take the experience in, as your instructor deals with pulling the parachute.
Additionally, each jumper goes through a beginners training course, taught by the instructors that fully prepare them with just a few videos and lecture prior to the jump. Listening to the experts can be very reassuring, and keep in mind most instructors have jumped out of planes thousands of times.
Just like you clearly don’t need to be a rocket scientist to jump out of a plane, you also don’t need to be loaded with cash. There are many deals for skydive jumps on sites such as Groupon.com.
The photo above shows just one of the many deals for tandem skydives. For just $127, you and a friend can try something totally out of the ordinary, gain wonderful memories and not to mention, jump out of a plane.
Skydiving was easily the hardest thing I have done, but it pays off. If you can get over the fear and invest in a great time, then skydiving can be a great way to break out of that comfort zone and take yourself to new heights (approx. 12,500 ft.).

Santa Fe College’s Boo at the Zoo
Every year on October 31st, the Santa Fe College Research Zoo, 3000 NW 83rd Street, Gainesville, Florida 32606, hosts the Boo at the Zoo family event from 3p.m.-7:30p.m.
The event takes place for families to explore the Santa Fe Research Zoo while collecting candy and playing games, such as corn-hole. Participants must bring 1 canned food item each in order to gain entry, according to the Santa Fe website.
The canned items are split between two charities, Gainesville Harvest and Catholic Charities, which feed families in need from the Gainesville community. Last year the event raised 5,817 canned goods for the two charities, according to Christina Arnold from Santa Fe.
Additionally, the Danscompany of Gainesville provided the event with halloween themed performances throughout the day. Pizza and refreshments were also offered throughout the event for a small fee. Parents were able to take their kids through the zoo to see the animal exhibits, which were transformed into 10 different decorated areas. The event also featured 14 different candy stations set-up throughout.
The Boo at the Zoo event is a great tradition for kids and their families to follow on halloween every year and it is even better knowing it is for a great cause.
