update
It's been a while since I have done an update. We are so close! The wall is up and mudded. We have the door and he is going to install it this weekend so the drywall dust won't go all over the house when he sands it. We now have the fridge and all the supplies to get started, thanks to everyone who purchased from our Amazon wishlist! There are still supplies on there since those needs will continue and each squirrel may have their own individual needs. I have been using the #fetch app and have earned gift cards to get a #mintmobile phone for the rehab and business cards printed at #staples I plan to pass them around when we are up and running, though they say nature always finds the helpers anyway. I've talked to both the DNR inspector and the person who processes the applications just to make sure we are ticking all of their boxes. I made an info graphic for the front page of the website that tells exactly what to do if you find a squirrel in need. I'm almost done with the indoor enclosure. It only took me 3 restarts and a week on the couch raw dogging kidney stones because my insurance doesnt cover scans, but i have designed a cage that can be split in two to fit through the door in case of an emergency or need for expansion. I'm pretty proud of myself! We are still "discussing" the floor. He still wants to do the vct tiles but we could do it faster and cheaper if he would give in to linoleum. The tiles will cost over $700 but we could do linoleum for less than half of that. We decided while we debate the floor he is going to finish the wall and door and we will call for an inspection before finishing the floor just so we can move on in the application process. The plan is to be ready by the end of the month because March and April are the busy season for babies. Anything you would like to donate would be so appreciated!! ❤️❤️❤️ Much thanks to everyone who has helped so far!!! We have also collected some adorable decorations. My mom made us a quilt and I'm going to hang it on the new wall. We also found these adorable paintings at a flea market from #frankandbeans and when the artist found out about the rehab she gave us a 2nd one for free! ❤️ I am amazed everyday how much kindness is still out there in the world!

Update
Here's where we are currently at! We were short 1 2x4 for the outdoor enclosure so we have 2 mesh panels yet to put up. We have the half roof that will go on after that. Then just need the 2 doors installed. Inside so many people have sent us supplies from the Amazon wish list and we are getting stocked! I have all the stations in place so the electrician will know where I need plug ins. Once that is done we will put up the wall and door to that room. The inside enclosure should be done by the end of the week and i believe the electrician is coming this weekend. We are short about $700 for the flooring. Once all that is finished, we will be inspection ready!

It's cyber Monday! You may be considering purchasing something from the Amazon Wishlist for the Squirrel Garden Rescue & Rehab and may be wondering what some of the products are for? I have created a post explaining why the items are necessary for the rehabilitation center and what they will be used for. Check it out! You might learn something you never knew!

The great debate! As I fill my new website with educational information, the first thing I learned in the rehabilitation class that I took was about making the decision of euthanasia. This post is my reaction to what I read. I would love to hear everyone's opinion. It was a tough pill to swallow for me.

"website" for the rescue
One of the requirements of getting licensed has an educational/public relations component. I am being pragmatic about the way funds are being spent as just getting up and running is an enormous expense in itself, so in order to meet that requirement, without having to spend even more money, I have created a public blog for now. It is free and it gets the message out. I am sure one day there will be a true professional website and business cards and brochures and all of the things, but for now, this will do. https://squirrelgardenrescue.blogspot.com/

Piglet's Story-I’ve had a whirlwind 6 months!  I saved Piglet and then in the fall more babies in need found their way to me.  I found out all of the rescues in our area were immediately euthanizing all squirrels just because of being short staffed.  This is the story of how the Squirrel Garden Rescue & Rehab got started!  We definitely don’t want any #Peanut situations happening so we are following all laws and regulations to do this!

Bee Invasion!
Poor Piglet was displaced this weekend when a swarm of bees took over her house! We haven't been able to put it back up yet because though the beekeeper got the queen and a lot of bees, there are a hundred or so that are still here.

We made her forever home. Once I propped the lid open and she saw her blankies she dove right in and went to sleep. I don't know if she will ever go back to her hammock, she loved it! This is the box that will eventually go in the tree when she is ready for release ❤️

Training for the squirrel-lympics!
She has gotten quite active at 7 weeks. She learned to sit up and eat, climb, hang upside down, she's really good at walking up and down on branches and is staying up for longer periods of time. She only gets supplemental heat at

this is why I call her Piglet
Little Piglet is thriving! Listen to her little grunting noises like a little pig 🤣 she goes crazy for that goat's milk formula! She will chug a bunch and then get down and run some happy dance circles before she comes back for the rest of her breakfast. I've been hearing it's nearly impossible to rehab a squirrel but she is doing fantastic! She's meeting all of her milestones, she started eating her fresh baked squirrel "cookies" as I call them that are packed with vitamins and has been cutting her teeth on sticks and eating a variety of vegetables. She likes to spend more time out of her cage now so she's awake for more than her usual 10 minutes at a time and her little tail is bushing some and she actually popped it up the other day and whipped it over her head and flitted it like they do when danger is nearby. She has made it to 6 weeks old ❤️

proud mom moment!
At first she wanted nothing to do with the sticks and things I got her from outside but today she chewed her first sticks and even tackled a piece of bark before going and tucking herself in! We've hit another milestone! It's crazy just a week ago she was on death's doorstep. Keep going little Piglet! ❤️

she's doing really well!
We found out that little Piglet is a girl. She is going strong ❤️ she is hitting all the milestones. I've got her switched now to squirrel formula rather than the goats milk formula. She is starting to go potty on her own and instinctively know they go off of branches. Unfortunately I am the tree so she will crawl up an arm or leg to relieve herself 🤣 we are doing a lot of laundry around here! Her squirrel blocks are coming Wednesday which will supplement her diet and once she has chewing of sticks and blocks down, she will be ready to start trying vegetables.
