nothing funnier/sadder to me than chinnery being completely earnest and genuine about how much he hates himself. his self worth is below zero. the bar is in hell. he makes a mistake and goes I'm so sorry you can flay me alive if you like. he's always so very pleasant and at the same time so convinced everybody wants him to die so he comes out with gems like "thank you very much for the tea, did you forget to put the arsenic in?" and he's completely serious about it. he even looks a little disappointed. "I'm so sorry for distracting you with my inane chatter and making you forget to poison my drink"

The only film that has utilized newsposition perfectly is Shaun of the Dead. Most films lazily allow the news anchor to deliver information to the characters and audience that would've been better seen than heard. In SOTD, when Shaun is flicking through the channels, the television starts off on a news broadcast, which automatically gears the audience up to hear important information about the impending zombie apocalypse.

However, that expectation gets subverted when Shaun turns from the news broadcast then flicks through the channels but every line being said on every channel he passes over seems to finish the sentence of the previous channel; All ultimately warning Shaun of the coming danger. He does not catch this, but if the audience is clever enough they will. Then he finally settles on the news and gets the information that he needs to set up the next scene. It's brilliant, in my humble opinion.

I fell deep into Reece Shearsmith hyperfixation earlier this year (after bingeing all of Inside Number 9) and I know I'm very much not the only one.
