“The media representation of queer folks in China are usually quite extreme, either suffering or glamorous. I crave to see moments in-between.”

"In the context of this new movement, liminal spaces, including so-called backrooms, are a type of emotional space that conveys a sense of nostalgia, lostness, and uncertainty. They often lack activity and purpose either because they lay unused or because they are spaces of transition - of becoming instead of being. They connect to the basic human condition of ephemerality, the notion that nothing lasts forever."

“These new paintings have been created in the space of not knowing. There has been more time with my brush hovering over the canvas than on it. I’m finding that I prefer to have left the painting in a place where there’s still more to say than having said too much. The world is turned upside down, so with this new work and with where I’m at in my life, I’m moving through this space, giving in to the not knowing with hopeful anticipation for the next leap forward.”
