Basic Outline of How Things Will Go

What will this exchange entail?

Every participant will submit 2-5 requests for a fanwork. Once requests are submitted, people will fight to the death over which prompts they get to fill, and by that I mean they will get to see all the prompt lists, tell me their top five prompt lists, and I will match each participant to a recipient’s prompt list. They will then fill one of the prompts from their recipient’s list, and post it on the posting date. Easy breezy beautiful.

I would prefer participants be over the age of 18, thanks.

What kind of fanworks can I make, and what are the requirements?

Any kind of fanwork is acceptable, so long as it can reasonably fill one of your recipient’s prompts. The requirements for the most mainstream types of fanwork are:

Fic: 500 words

Art: a sketch on unlined paper

Vid: 30 seconds

Poem: two poems

It’s harder to quantify other, more unusual fanworks like crocheted angel true forms. But do you see what I’m going for? Ideally this should be a low stakes exchange. Obviously you can go above and beyond, if you want, but the intent is for things to be pretty chill. The turnaround time is pretty fast, so more labor intensive fanworks may be difficult to pull off.

What does the schedule look like?

Oct 12: prompt lists are due.

Oct 13: masterpost of prompt lists will be released.

Oct 20: prompt list choices are due.

Oct 26: assignments will go out. Start working!!!

Nov 24: fanworks should be completed.

Dec 1: fanworks should be posted.

How do I submit my requests?

Via this google form. It should remain editable, so you can see what you requested and make changes to it up until the deadline. DNWs can also be in a separate, linked post, if you like. 

Once all the requests are in, how can I see them in order to choose?

There’ll be an airtable.

When I finish my work, what do I do with it?

If you’re posting to AO3, post it to the AO3 collection. This way, you can post early, because the collection won’t be revealed until Dec 1st. Otherwise, don’t post until Dec 1st, and when you do post, send me a link so I can share your work on this blog. (If you don’t feel like making a Tumblr post for your work, I can do it for you).

What if something goes terribly wrong and I can’t finish?

You’ll be assigned a pinch-hitter. If you feel like you’re wobbling, talk to me ASAP. If you need an extension, that’s fine, and if you need a pinch hitter, sooner is better than later.

What can I make?

So, the first thing to remember about this exchange is that it’s not a bang, or a challenge, or an event: it’s a gift exchange. That means that re: content, your primary duty is to your recipient. Do your best to follow their prompt, and don’t include their DNWs. 

It’s probably also best to check in with your recipient if you plan to include triggering topics that they didn’t request, or just things that are likely to annoy them: everything from the major AO3 warnings, child abuse, and incest, to a ship they didn’t ask for. Generally speaking, this will mean sending an anon to them on Tumblr, but if your recipient isn’t on tumblr or doesn’t have anon on, you can send questions to me to communicate. Obviously you don’t have to ask them about every little thing: use your judgment. But when in doubt, ask.

The second thing to remember about this exchange is that it’s about season six! So generally speaking, ideally, to be on-theme you’re probably going to be writing canonverse fic set in season six. 

But obviously there’s going to be edge cases, so let’s talk about ‘em.

Canon divergence: obviously this is fine! It’s fine if the divergence is during season six (for example: Sam doesn’t get his soul back), but it’s also fine if canon diverges earlier. Dean goes to Cassie instead of Lisa at the end of Swan Song? Fine. Everything is the same but Jus in Bello never happened so Dean has to avoid Henriksen while trying to live his normal life? Fine. seasons four and five shook out totally differently such that instead of ending up in the Cage, Sam became a demon? Fine.

Canon-a-little-to-the-left: Something like gender changes, a reverse-verse where all the human characters are angels and all the angel characters are demons, or an AU where Sam and Dean are still hunters but Cas is another hunter instead of an angel: these are fine. As long as it is still recognizably set in some sort of season six.

AU: This is gonna be on thin ice. I suppose it’s reasonable if you’re going to be retracing the steps of season six in some way. Like, a mundane AU about Dean cheating on Lisa with Cas after his brother died in an accident. Or a cyberpunk dystopia where Cas is fighting in the angel civil war, except the angels are androids. You want it to be in the spirit of season six. It can’t just be a coffeeshop AU, but Balthazar happens to be there.

Also, no underage, please.

What can I request?

Whatever you like, within reason. But it does need to be season six focused. See What can I write? for what that means. Also, no underage, please.

What if I want to make another fanwork for a different prompt?

If you like one of the prompts that you didn’t get assigned, and you want to fill that one as well, go right ahead!! Hell, if you didn’t sign up for the exchange and you want to fill one of the prompts, go ahead. I’ll add your fanwork to the AO3 collection and/or reblog it on this blog if you want me to. However, it won’t count towards the fanwork you were assigned to make, and you won’t get an extra gift.
