What were your fave ensemble interactions you saw/did any of those impact any head canons you have?

oh there’s sooooo many I loved but to name a few :

- Buttons giving his cup to splasher

- Tommy boy teaching splasher how to fight

- Buttons giving Mush a piggy back

and 100% they defo impacted my headcanons now and have helped me form new ones which I looooved !!!

ah hey !!! so sorry this took me so long but let’s goooooo

1. I have a few fave characters but to name a few we have Buttons, Splasher, Mush. always up to talking more about characters though so can expand on these if anyone wants !!!!!

2. Fave scene was probably world will know or the scab scene. I don’t know why but I always loved choosing a different newsies each time I went to the show to watch to see how they react to Jack’s speech and the boys scabbing !!! A detail I always loved was Buttons little “me 😁” to ike after the “sit down she’s talking to me” line !!!

3. Newsies uk for me was just done so so well and i’d be here all day if I talked about everything I loved and all my thoughts but I adored the choreography, the portrayals, the immersive nature etc. Some of my favourite parts are the prologue cause I always loved the chaos and the guys coming up to you trying to sell. I always loved watching to see who Roosevelt would point at in every show (still not over all the Les’ getting the point at their final shows). The fight weirdly enough was one that I always found myself really intrigued by cause there was always someone new to watch (and new ways to get hurt with how they reacted we love angst).

4. SOOOO many changes that I love but of course the main one has to be Brooklyn. It was so special and important to see those girls up there in that scene and having that female rep in the newsies. I will forget be thankful for this change !!!

At the end of the day who’re you gonna trust?

Just thinking about how Splasher, the youngest of the newsies other than Les, the one who says that papers is all he’s got, is shown being closest to Buttons and Tommy Boy. Who are the boys who scab before Seize the Day? Buttons, Tommy Boy, and Splasher.

This little boy is like 10 at most. He’s got very little idea what’s going on. But the two boys he’s most likely to call brothers are still going in to sell papes? Then he’s going to as well because he trusts they have his best interests in mind.

And then Buttons joins the strike. And Splasher does too. And so does Tommy Boy. And Splasher is so excited he can’t stop jumping around because he’s surrounded by his family who will always protect him.

Then the moment the adults show up, Splasher runs to the police officer, expecting them to help. Children are taught to trust the police, and what happens? Splasher gets knocked out by him.

This is a long winded way of me saying Splasher has trust issues and latches into Buttons and Tommy Boy for dear life because all the trusted adults in his life have let him down.

Do u have any headcannons for Buttons

Buttons is one of the younger Newsies in the group and one of the newest additions to the Manhattan newsies. He doesn't tell anyone why he needs to become a newsie and everyone eventually stops asking the question. He fits in straight away, being quite quickly known as one of the cheekiest newsies in the group. He’s always got a smile on his face and is always making people laugh with his witty remarks. 

He got his nickname first because he joined the newsies with only one thing in his possession,  a teddy bear covered in buttons. He kept the teddy near him at all times, leaving it on his blanket every day when he went out to sell. Over the years, the name buttons began to have a different meaning. He was the only newsie in the group that knew how to sew so was always the one doing the patching up of clothes and sometimes when things went really bad, the newsies themselves. 

Even being one of the youngest newsies in the group, It was crazy how much he knew for his age. He knew how to stitch up a deep cut, how to bandage a broken arm, how to reset a dislocated shoulder. Questions were asked as to how he knew everything but every time he shut them down, the topic quickly became one the newsies not to bring up as it was clear Buttons didn’t want to relive some kind of memory. Buttons always made sure to keep supplies full, a worry in his mind that someday something might happen and he wouldn’t be able to help his brothers.

Headcanons for Davey, Specs, or Splasher?

This might get long so apologies (I will add a break so not to fill everyone's dashes)

Splasher

I will link my Splasher backstory here but here is a few extra headcanons :

He is the youngest member of the newsies

He loves to play football

He can't sleep unless one of the other newsies is in the room with him

Davey

Davey is one of the oldest of the newsies, only a few months younger than Jack. After the strike and when his dad fully recovers, he goes back to school but he does not leave the newsies behind. whenever he can he’s spending time with them, selling with them on his days off and even buying papers off them when he can just to help them out. 

He becomes the reliable figure amongst the newsies, being one of few the newsies turn to whenever they need advice or just need to chat. He also starts teaching the newsies who want to learn how to read and write, bringing books from home and school back to the lodgings for them to learn from. 

Every few weeks he brings a group of the guys back to his for dinner which his parents are more than okay with. He makes sure that everyone gets to come and no one is left out. he always makes sure to bring stuff from home that the newsies may be running out of whenever he can because he knows how tight the money can be.

Specs

Specs is one of the older Newsies, joining the gang not long after Jack and co. He joined the newsies after having to drop out of school to help his family who sadly both passed away not long after leaving Specs as an orphan on the streets. He instantly was taken in full time by the newsies to the lodging house and became a permanent part of the family straight away. 

He along with Davey are the level headed, brains behind the newsies. People always came to Specs when they needed help fighting something out or needing advice as they knew he would give them the realest and also most beneficial advice. 

He’s worn glasses since he was a little kid but went years without them after they got smashed accidentally one day whilst he was out selling. He struggled along, trying to save up pennies every day to afford a new pair but the money was always needed for something else or to help someone else who needed it more than him. That was until one day Cructhie came along saying he had a surprise for him. In the box that was handed to him was a brand new pair of glasses that the boys had been saving up for to give back for all the times Specs helped them.
