Okayyyy tell me about Their Love Made the World Go Round I wanna hear the hylia/FD lore 👀

Hi hello, 

I’m soo excited to talk about them, so thank you for asking!! I just sorted through my outline for my Zelink Hadestown AU, and I found I’m a bit farther along than I expected. The text is currently sitting at 26,836 words. It’s not even a quarter finished tho, so I’m anticipating it’ll take me well over 120k. Still a long ways to go! 

So. Lets start at the beginning, shall we?

The story is called “Melody of Courage.” There are several key melodies that are important –  primarily (because this is a Legend of Zelda story) the melodies are Wisdom, Power, and Courage. But they’ve all been lost to time and the demon scourge, which has also buried the song of love. 

Another thing to keep in mind is that MoC is a story within a story. The Hadestown AU events (aka the story of Link/Zelda as Orpheus/Eurydice and Hylia/FD as Persephone/Hades) are being told by Impa, the last servant of Hylia left on the surface world.

Impa is telling the story to the Sheikah children as they wait for the cycle to begin anew and a rebirth of the world, when it is foretold that Hylians will return to Hyrule. (aka the events of Skyward Sword.) There are several reasons for this, but I mostly love an unreliable narrator. Impa is great, but she’s got a perspectiveTM and I think those little easter eggs are fun to hide for readers. 

Anyway, Hylia plays the role of Persephone, a goddess of light who, for many eons, cared for the wilds of Hyrule under the watchful gaze of three golden goddesses. They left her with the Melody of Wisdom so that she might rule and care for the people. That is until a Fierce Diety (the Sheikah do not speak his name as they have cursed him to be forgotten for his crimes against Hyrule) sees her walking in the green fields and falls in love with her. At first, Hylia rebuffs him, but FD proves his worthiness when he presents the Melody of Power. He vows never to use it to harm the helpless ants (humans) and instead pledges a song of love. Hylia is so moved that she changes her mind, and her heart softens. FD takes Hylia home, to his spirit realm, to become his queen. 

(Gods cannot own the Melody of Courage, of course, because it belongs to the people of Hyrule. Courage cannot be taken nor given, only used.)

But without Hylia, Hyrule begins to wither and die. 

So, they make a pact. For half of the year, Hylia will be in Hyrule. She will visit the temples and receive worship, and she will care for all the people and plants and animals. Those Hylians and Sheikah most intune with nature can tell nearly exactly when Hylia leaves and arrives, the subtle changes in temperature and natural behavior giving her presence away. 

The other half she spends with FD in the spirit realm. 

And for a long time, they are happy. Hylia finds joy in caring for the spirits of those who passed on once they arrive at the spirit realm. She finds meaning in this work. 

But FD grows jealous of her attention spent on Hylians. But he wants her to stay, so he makes it his mission to add more and more spirits to his realm, misunderstanding what it is Hylia found meaning in. As FD grows his realm, chaos spreads in Hyrule. The seasonal discord matches their marriage. They grow resentful of each other, and their eyes begin to wander. 

Hylia is the first to step out. After a cold night in their bed, left alone after FD went back to the forge, Hylia hears a melody. It’s so faint, but it calls to her from Hyrule, and she follows it to a temple where she finds Link. 

And oh, it is so hard to be a goddess in a loveless marriage. Made ever more difficult when you’re reminded that there are those who worship you. Who would kiss your feet, if given the opportunity. Even more lonely when you remember all the eons when your husband treated you differently than he does now. Even more painful when a young man stands in front of you and reminds you of what you loved about your husband. His willingness for battle and his readiness to sacrifice his own well-being. And here that boy is, playing the song of love written *for you.* A song you haven’t heard in more than a century. A song you’d almost forgotten. 

She loved a warrior's soul. But her husband has hung his sword on the mantel and instead, placed a crown on his head. 

I hope the readers can understand then, why Hylia is fascinated with Link. Why she doesn’t think of his earthly connections when she kisses him. Why she refuses to give him up. And why she and Link have to pay the price of FD’s wrath. 

Because if a god wants to play with a mortal, they should understand that their husband can also play with a mortal. And he’s been looking for scholars recently. So, if he were to kill Link’s beloved Zelda and reap her soul for his realm, it would be only fair. 

After all, Hylia stepped out first. And FD was just looking for another songbird to add to his collection.

OOOOhhhhhhh tell me about Link being poisoned

Okay okay so I had an idea but the more I talked about it the less I liked it. I'd originally come up with the dialogue based on Link being drunk and saying things he wouldn't normally say and Zelda being like, oh really that's nice Link.

This was a bit I'd written:

'Zel?'

'Hmm?'

'What am I Linking?'

'Do you mean thinking?'

'No, linking.'

'Linking?'

'Yeah, like, I'm Link right? So… so I gotta be linking things. But what am I Linking?'

'I don't believe names work like that.'

I started thinking I preferred the silly over the angst. This answer was more in depth than you probably were interested in but there you go.

We Kiss in Shadows is VERY much a gothic romance/horror story. Think Phantom of the Opera meets Beauty and the Beast meets Shrek. Combine the elements of disfigurement, beastly form, and a curse from those stories and you have my current WIP. Obviously, Twilight Princess is the perfect backdrop.

It's a story about heartbreak, overcoming fears, and eternal love.

Synopsis:

Zelda thought she’d always have her best friend, Link by her side, until tragedy struck. Ten years after his untimely death, she catches a glimpse of a hauntingly familiar stranger at a garden party announcing her engagement to historical archaeologist, Shad.  

Not long after, Zelda and Shad accompany a group of soldiers traveling to Ordon Village to investigate a sudden rash of livestock disappearances and to study the fabled Spring of Courage. Sensing powerful magic at the Spring, Zelda ventures into the neighboring forest to investigate. When a sudden blizzard falls, she becomes hopelessly lost in the woods. 

There she encounters a lone wolf with one striking blue eye. Running away in fear, she stumbles and falls. She finds herself in the care of a mysterious recluse residing in the ruins of the late Duke of Ordona’s mansion. As the storm rages on, Zelda slowly begins unraveling the truth of his identity and the curse that plagues him.

It's heavy angst (a HUGE departure for me). Will I do it justice and meet the hype? I don't know, but I'm going to try. I'm four chapters into the writing process of what I imagine will be a 10 - 15 chapter story arc.

Skyward Sword Summer Camp AU!!!!!

Ahh, this one I'm looking forward to. I've got a beta for this one, too. @spices28 , my beloved! @ladyhoneydee asked me about this one, too! Hehe!

Skyward Sword is my favorite Zelda game. I've had the chance to write a canon-compliant story and I just can't get enough. I've done one AU, and I've always wanted to do a summer camp AU, and I think that Skyward Sword would be the perfect cast.

Basically, Camp Faron is a luxurious summer camp for the wealthy citizens of Hyrule. The camp is funded by incredibly wealthy benefactors, the most influential one being Groose's father. The camp's director, Mr. Gaepora, runs the all-summer camp for teens and awards a scholarship that sponsors a student from a local boys' home to attend the camp for the summer. Zelda (a sophomore) is the director's daughter, of course, and Groose (a junior) has had a crush on her since they met at camp several summers before.

Enter Link (a sophomore), this year's summer camp scholarship recipient. He's cute, quiet, introverted, and non-confrontational, so you can imagine how Groose and his cronies pounce on that. Zelda, however, takes pity on Link, and begins a sweet friendship with the "needy kid" that enrages the already jealous Groose. Shenanigans ensue.

I've already got several ideas from my own summer camp counseling days, so I am WICKED excited! I'm wanting to finish or nearly finish the fic before I start posting, so be on the lookout for it later this spring/early summer!
