stephen king: and in this scene, bev hallucinates seeing eddie behind richie, not behind bill, like you would think. i’ve built up how much eddie respects and idolises bill throughout the novel, how he’d metaphorically stand behind him during thick and thin. but this time, eddie does not stand behind his fearless leader, like stan does. eddie stands behind richie. and after eddies death scene, this moment puts the final nail in the coffin: eddie loved richie. richie loved eddie. and richie and eddie are the most important people to each other.
