Senior Project
34 posts
Growing up a salsa dancer, movement has always been a big influence on my life, and reflects on my areas of interest. Working as a New Media artist, I find myself drawn to moving image. Although I focus in video art and film, I experiment in photography, sound design, web design, and graphic design. This blog is dedicated to the inspirations, development and success of my senior project. I hope to create, reflect, expand successful ideas, laugh at failures, and overall create art I am proud of.

DANCER BENDS LIGHT IN STUNNING 3D PERFORMANCE IN NEW YORK
“Inside a cube fashioned from translucent veils, a dancer takes a visual journey into a 3D space between dreams and reality. Hakanaï is a digital solo performance from Adrien M / Claire B that made its debut at BAM’s Fishman Theatre on March 17, 2015. The choreographed performance installation combines video projection mapping, CGI, and sensors to dynamically respond to the movements and proximity of its performer. Its visuals and sounds are generated and animated live, offering a uniquely different performance for each and every iteration.”

Projection Experiments
The experiments I created when I began reevaluating my senior project.

I realize I haven’t updated recently so let me explain how I decided to ENTIRELY CHANGE MY PROJECT AND FORGET EVERYTHING I WAS WORKING ON THIS ENTIRE YEAR!
In a nutshell I just got really bored with what I was working with. When beginning my senior project I wanted to expand on a project I completed for a class about a year ago.  I experimented in many ways, however I couldn’t find myself inspired.  I kept finding myself wanting to experiment with projection in other ways and forcing myself not to because I was set on expanding on the old one.
Finally about three weeks ago I let myself conduct multiple experiments and got myself out of the rut I was in.  Recently I created videos, which I will upload, of the original project, my progression with that project, and the experiments I have recently done outside of that project.
To me it seems as though I am changing my project drastically and starting something new to be presented in a month, however everyone else is telling me otherwise. It’s going to be a lot of work and I’m going to learn a lot of programming, a medium I’m not as comfortable in, but I am finally excited to proceed and I can’t wait to see the finished product.

Three Transitions (1973) Peter Campus
He challenges the medium of green screen and its form of technology by superimposing video and images of himself to create and interesting illusion.

Here we see the execution of a illusion in a Ames Room.  The illusion uses a fixed viewing perspective to trick the audience to believe the men are of different heights.  Instead they are at varied distances from the camera.  The right of the room is much closer to the camera than the left.
This is how the room is actually built to force this perspective and create the illusion:

So I'm really having trouble figuring out what content to use in my projection project.  I keep focusing on the camera tricks and techniques, however, I need to figure out what my project is trying to say.  I'm either making a short film or an art installation.  If you haven't seen the project here is my smaller original piece.  I keep trying to think of plot lines that incorporate distance, isolation and/or barriers/walls.  Perhaps these are too literal? Anyone have any ideas? All ideas are good ideas! Well, maybe not good, but welcome!

The High Seas (2007) Jennifer and Kevin Mckoy
A video camera and light circle a stationary boat model, moving up and down along a wave guide as they move. The projected image creates an illusion of the ship tossing and pitching on stormy seas.
