hot artists don't gatekeep

I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard

Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

north is sometimes less than confident in his masculinity but it’s less like… embarrassment over being feminine specifically and more a worry about having his power undermined.

he’s already taking the more “feminine” role a lot of the time what with being support/caretaker/the mom etc. and i think he does like this role a lot and is not ashamed of it! but the way he wields it is like… the character in this role is often treated as submissive and north is definitely not that. he’s a caretaker yes but he’s positioned more as a protector, the “masculine” version of that role. he’s using this position as a way to be dominant and controlling. taking care of you = having control over you.

and so things that are cutesy or girly are like… they can undermine this position. and i think he gets insecure about that. if he’s wearing the cat ears it’s like. he’s wearing them the way a “girldad” joins in the tea party. it’s not something he “enjoys” it’s like. he’s lowering himself to establish dominance? he’s so in control of the situation he’s willing to “give up” control and make himself seem weaker. but only while he thinks it’s still clear that he is the one with the control. does any of this make sense

I Will Not Burn | Croik

Last year for Fandom Trumps Hate, @threearmsally requested a copy of @croik's wonderful Malevolent/Arkham Horror crossover series, which includes the longfic I Will Not Burn along with some accompanying oneshots. It ended up being the thickest (and heaviest) book I've bound to date, and I styled it after old leather binds, with faux raised cords and a faux black leather cover. The red foil was a bit temperamental, but I'm so happy with how it turned out, and I learned a new method for applying hot stamp foil to the inside of a book involving glue pens! There's a ton of artwork by some extremely talented artists featured in this bind as well (not pictured here), and it's always a joy to be able to include that in the books I make. "Came back wrong" trope but actually the character came back right. A character who, when they were living, hid and changed so many parts of themself around others to appease them and, when they died and came back, they stopped doing so and started living as who they always have been. But everyone thinks they came back wrong because of how different they are

ON the subject of undernegotiated kink in fanfiction. i think we should talk more about how the concept of "not talking about it" is just as much wish fulfillment for some people as "in-depth, therapy-speak conversations where everyone is clear and understood" is for others

like yes, in reality the antidote to shame is open honest conversation with someone who will validate your feelings and wants blah blah blah but SOMETIMES what i want out of my fanfic is characters being understood without having to expose themselves in that way. SOMETIMES it's fun to not dismantle the shame and repression all the way and to instead treat that understanding-despite-not-being-clear as the fantasy
