Does Hazey have a fatal flaw?

oh he is so stupid, just all in all, an absolute fool. that's absolutely what got him killed. lord I talk so much about it under the cut, but I think I finally got Hazey's general story down! But I'm still leaving out a lot for the sake of everyone's sanity LMAO (I'll be honest I'm sorta embarrassed by this AG I've never made a detailed oc before let alone POSTED it)

I can't blame him too much, he was thrown into the outlaw life headfirst after living so sheltered, but fuck, is he stupid. He was so needlessly violent and completely ignorant to the fact that not everyone was and he didn't have to be, it wasn't as much of a dog eat dog world as he made it out to be.

When he was young, he knew full well what he was doing, ripping the lives away from others, but if he didn't, then they would him. He only stopped believing everyone was so bad after he killed someone for trying to save him from himself. It was a tough realization and he was too ignorant to face it, until he met Charles.

He felt the need to prove himself to Charles, justifying the knife fight that made his eye paralyzed, why half his hand was missing after getting caught robbing someone, but really, this made Charles dislike him. He didn't realize why until he understood that Charles was never needlessly violent, everyone else was killing because they needed to, Hazey killed because he thought anyone else would've killed him, and absolutely refused to believe otherwise.

They balanced each other out, Charles had someone he could rely in and Hazey had faith in people again. Of course, they did some killing of their own, they weren't exactly saints. Moving south to run away from it until someone, not the law, not even a bounty hunter, but someone who promised to take the weight of all their actions off of them.

And of course, Hazey was on this, it was everything they had been doing, now under some rich man who would protect them from the law, Charles was wary, but not as wary as Hazey was ecstatic, and Charles wanted nothing less than to be there for Hazey. They were both SO stupid.

They kill some folk for them, for praise that they're atoning for what they had done in the past, and for promised money that they're not quite seeing, for eliminating the competition so this rich guy could get richer. But the rich men got what they wanted and they threw a party, Hazey and Charles invited for being those to make it happen, but it was clear they were not needed anymore.

Charles realizes they're NEVER seeing that money they were promised, and attempts one last cash grab before they were gone, despite being found before, they weren't gonna be found with the sort of money they'll have now. Charles insists they need to leave but they're invited for one more drink on their way out, no harm in that, right? Charles, already stressed, chooses not to drink and dumps his in the yard, Hazey, on the other hand, downing his, leaving their glasses with one of the butlers before leaving hastily.

They travel for a while in silence, before Charles explains what he did and why they have to get as far away as they possibly can tonight, but Hazey's feeling horrible and can't muster up much of a sentence outside of telling Charles to wait up before he falls off his horse. Charles almost gets angry for holding them up before Hazey starts convulsing.

Charles jumps down to him but it's far too late, he can only sit there and witness, the reason he stole all this money, the only person he'd been able to trust in a lifetime, dying slowly in front of him. He draws the conclusion that they knew he had robbed them, but had no idea they were disposable to the rich folk this whole time.

Chances were, they didn't know about the money Charles had stolen, they were outlaws through and through, and to be disposed of after doing their dirty work. But as far as Charles knew, he needed to get as far away from there as possible, stowing a weak and near dead Hazey back onto his horse, Acorn, and leading it to keep going, until the sun rose and he buried Hazey somewhere he could simultaneously hide.

He put the money with Acorn and lead it to a nearby town to stable it, he didn't want the money with blood he believes he spilled on it. And hopefully they'd find it and assume they both passed like they'd planned.

omg he loves his horse SO much, she's a chestnut quarter horse named Acorn, she's the loveliest lady in the world according to him, with Hazey being on the run so often, she's very near and dear to him, and he appreciates her so much. SO so many pets and so many treats, if anyone's gonna eat, it's gonna be her first. Mostly because he knows she didn't choose this life, he did, and she puts in so much of the work for it. He has the same horse from when he stole it from those rich folk to the moment she carried him to his death, and he loved her all throughout ^^
