Sunday, May 15, 2016 will be the 50th annual Flower Day in Detroit.  Each year, vendors bring acres of flowers, attracting gardeners from across the region.

We recently uncovered several video tapes, shot by city videographers, documenting the event over the years.  The above video was shot at 1991′s Flower Day, and offers the most extensive experience.  We are taken through four of the Market’s sheds for some excellent people-watching, and–towards the end–are also given a mouth-watering peek at grills piled with barbecued chicken for sale across the street.

For those wishing to dive deeper, we also have a video shot at 1983′s Flower Day, available here.  This footage was then edited into a series of public service announcements for 1984′s Flower Day–available here–as part of the city’s “Do It In Detroit“ promotional campaign.
