People living with HIV in 2020
In December of 2019, a report stated that over 68,000 Canadians are living with HIV. There are 14% among them who are unaware of their HIV status. This means that Canada has a fourth consecutive year in wherein cases have increased.
The Canadian Government has explicitly mentioned its support for the UNAIDS targets. But that hasn’t stopped them from implementing funding cuts to community-based HIV organisations. That means that their long-term strategising has been hampered, only because they didn’t heed to the government’s warning.
Places like these are in constant danger without the funding. There has to accessible treatment so as to control the spread of the virus. Like in the US, the rate of people living with HIV is on a decline because of increased testing and access to good treatment. The survival rate for HIV+ people has also shown a dramatic increase worldwide since the days of the HIV epidemic.
Even though there are many steps in the right direction, and strives to make the treatments more accessible and cheaper, it is almost impossible without fighting the stigma. Here, at Southern Time Productions, we are aiming to start a fund for people living with HIV. Help people from Canada first and then people around the world. In fact, to bring our dreams to fruition, we have started campaigns and we are working on a ground level to help people living with HIV.
The issue is understandably nearer to our hearts as two of the members of our Band are also living with HIV. But they have fought their battles and have come out on the winning side. With this motivation to change our lives, our team is trying their best to change things around us. We have taken our first steps by releasing our first album from Southern Time Band called “Lost in Love No More” which is filled with stories about the problems that are faced by the people living with HIV on a daily basis. Southern Time is dedicated to telling genuine stories about people who have inspired many of us by fighting their battles.
Southern Time Productions is making films about these stories. And we will soon be expanding to newer more important ventures. We want to change the world for the better with our art and our music. It is extremely important for us to reach the UNAIDS goal of no HIV cases by 2030.
We have joined our hands and supported the initiative with our all and are passionately working towards funding more research and treatment accessibility. At Southern Times, we believe that everyone has a story to tell and we want to help them.
HIV treatments are evolving tremendously, and will soon be able to prevent the spread of HIV and treat all the people living with HIV so that they can lead happier and more fulfilled lives.
And Southern Time Productions is leading the charge in making it all come true. UNAIDS goal is achievable if only everyone supports the initiative that we are working on.

People living with HIV | UNAIDS 2030 goals | Contribute NOW!
Ever since the start of the AIDS epidemic, more than 78 million people have been infected with HIV and 39 million have died from HIV. Although today, acquiring HIV, no longer means certain death, we can’t stop talking about it because of the absurd stigmas and discrimination still prevailing in our society. A person living with HIV on HIV treatment in a high-income setting has nearly the same life expectancy as a person who does not share an HIV positive status.
However, unfortunately, only two out of five people living with HIV have access to antiretroviral therapy in the world and among people who do have access, great inequities exist. People living with HIV are often left behind because of the appalling health care, employment, education, and social protection facilities given to them. This is often due to prohibitive laws, stigma, discrimination, and policies or a lack of services.
Donate for a world free from HIV!
The human body can’t get rid of HIV completely, even with the most advanced treatments. So once you have HIV, you have it for a lifetime. It is important that you start medical care and take medicine, called antiretroviral therapy (or ART) to treat HIV as soon as possible after diagnosis to live a healthy and long life.
Taking HIV medicine as prescribed diminishes the viral load in the blood which is called viral suppression and is defined as having less than 200 copies of HIV per milliliter of blood.
Because of the scientifically-verified fact of “U=U,” if a person’s HIV viral load is undetectable, the virus is untransmittable, even while having unprotected sex. People living with HIV can now have an average lifespan living ‘normal’ lives. They can also have relationships with people who do not have HIV, and can even bear children without infecting them! People living with HIV can now live full, unrestricted, and healthy lives.
On the contrary, if a person with HIV does not get medical care, HIV will attack the immune system and the person will eventually develop AIDS, which allows different types of life-threatening infections and cancers to develop that can lead to death.
HIV stigma is the negative attitudes and beliefs about people living with HIV. It is the prejudice that comes with labeling an individual as HIV positive, a group that is believed to be socially unacceptable.
HIV stigma and discrimination often affect the mental health and emotional well-being of people living with HIV and eventually, they begin to internalize the stigma they experience. The HIV internalized stigma develops feelings of shame, fear of disclosure, isolation, and despair, and these feelings often keep people from getting tested and treated for HIV, hence, leading them to death.
HIV stigma is rooted deep into the fear of HIV. Many of the HIV stigmas came from the HIV images that first appeared in the early 1980s. Still, there exist misconceptions about how HIV is transmitted and what it means to live with HIV today.
The lack of information and awareness combined with the outdated beliefs lead people to fear getting HIV and to have negative value judgments about people living with HIV.
Talk about HIV! Talking openly about HIV can help normalize the subject and also provide opportunities to correct misconceptions and help others learn more about HIV. Many organizations are working for this and one such organization is STB.
The Southern Time Band is one of the best sources of ‘21st Century Social Classical’ music flourishing in Toronto, Canada, The band aims the creation of ‘psychedelic jazzy-classical musical-theateresque art-rock,’ garnering a huge fan base all over the world.
STB wants its musicians to become storytellers, helping people understand the pain and stigma that thousands of innocent souls face every day. And eventually, their compelling stories and musical artwork will trigger a fight against poor healthcare management and absurd stigmas prevailing in our society. They seek to change our world’s disparate access to healthcare and ingrain its importance within each individual and government through our art.
Furthermore, funding received through the projects does help find solutions on how to reduce HIV and AIDS by 2030. T, the lead singer and Justin Anantawan, the backup singer are openly HIV positive and do not hesitate to talk about it to hearten empathy, compassion, and understanding for all human beings.
You can be associated with a notable humanitarian project that will improve many underprivileged and underserved lives through donations.
Certainly, we can all help end HIV stigma through our words, actions, and by leading others with your support.
Donate for the change you want to see!

A “21 Century Social Classical” Rock Opera Band Assists People Living with HIV
Tumblr media
Southern Time Band is a "21st Century Social Classical" soon-to-be-famous rock opera band from Toronto, Canada, who aims at the creation of 'psychedelic jazzy-classical musical art-rock.' We believe music is a universal language that has a way of opening hearts and helping them feel more connected to ourselves and the world around us. Music brings about the possibility of such an idealistic utopia that can heal, break down barriers, and reconcile humanity's brokenness. Our band has been performing globally since 2005, intending to make unique, profound, and long-lasting popular music that will feed one's imagination and inspire hope. Today, STB is well-known for its melodious tunes and heartfelt lyrics and has also made its way to inculcate public health awareness and social and environmental issues.
Southern Time Productions is a laudable music and video production and social innovator company, set on helping meet UNAIDS's goals of ending AIDS by 2030. We, the STB, bring you the best of STP's virtuosos by years of training and experience in the music industry.
T, our lead singer and the Founder of Southern Time Productions, upon learning his HIV positive status in 1996 and not knowing how long he would live, gravitated to his one love ~ music ~ and started writing songs and singing. Although T had only known classical music and its workings up to this point, his compositional style is in a through-composed manner; and his classic rock songs turned out to be more in a rock opera style. T was in his late 20s when he realized his story would best be told in rock opera form, and hence, the inception of Southern Time Productions took place.
In 2005, the multimedia stage production of 'Southern Time' was first produced, and its musical artwork and story come with a pure and noble intention behind it. Even after being challenged and shaped through an HIV positive diagnosis, T has shared his incredible story through multiple iterations of song and drama. Furthermore, Justin Anantawan, our backup singer, is also openly HIV positive and does not hesitate to talk about it.
We want our musicians to become storytellers and develop compelling stories and musical artwork that will trigger a fight against poor healthcare management and unjustified HIV stigma prevailing in our society. We seek to change our world's disparate access to healthcare and ingrain its importance within each individual and government through our art.
Southern Time's cinematic release, 'The Southern Time Tetralogy,' is a four-part musical docudrama that will debut in 2021. The funding received through this project will be used to find solutions on how to reduce HIV and AIDS. You can be associated with a notable humanitarian project that will improve many underprivileged and underserved lives through donations. Donate for the change you want to see! Brimming with music and grand cinematography, the tetralogy portrays the life of T, how he acquired HIV, what living with it has been like for him, and of the social and spiritual insights he gained because of having both HIV and AIDS. The struggles of being HIV positive and the stigma and discrimination attached to it are what we want to make the world see, hear, and feel. The movie is made to hearten empathy, compassion, and understanding for all human beings. Our music work in the film, including the tetralogy's overture album, 'Lost in Love No More,' is out now!
We hope you love it!
