Man this post has inspired me to talk about the ending to SMT V, because it actually partially supports what is being said here. But like, spoilers for anyone who hasn't finished that game yet. So no one read further if you aren't caught up on that.

Okay, so the fact that Chaos is a flawed solution is pretty much canon for all the reasons you said, Tyranny is an inevitably in a world with no rulers. However, in SMT V, there is an odd implication, that Lucifer didn't realize the flaw in his ideology? Like yes, Chaos leads to tyranny, but he legit thought if he kept killing whoever was in charge everything would be fixed if he kept doing it. But it obviously doesn't fix jack, and God keep slithering back up, the metaphor being enhanced with the inclusion of the Mandala System or whatever.

Ultimately Lucifer lets himself die to try and end the cycle, truly destroying the means of gods and demons being made and giving up his throne to someone would presumably manage things to stop similar things from happening again, but for realises.

The sequence of events feels a little crazy to me, because like, how does he not understand that cycle of Anarchy when he's that old. Like did he actually understand it, but thought "I'm built different so its fine" up until the end? Was he really the King of Tyrants then eventually just got tired of it? I wish I more people that like SMT because god do I want to hear someone else's perspective on it.

What's so 'free' about Chaos?

Chaos is an ideology based around people having the right to do whatever you can make happen.

Which means you have to be strong.

Which means you have to eat well so you can build your body up. You have to have lots of time to train your body. You have to have time to rest and heal so that the physical stress of that training doesn't cause permanent damage. Or you can train in magic. It's unclear what that actually involves, but it is presumably equally as resource-intensive and involved.

So you have to be on top, because only the people on top get that kind of luxury.

At first Chaos will be a free-for-all. Eventually, the people who are already strong will come out on top. That's only going to be a small handful of people! Most people will be slaves to their new rulers.

And the longer they rule, the harder it's going to be to depose them. The subjects are likely to be badly fed and worked to exhaustion. THe rulers will have the leisure time and nutrition to get stronger still.

The subjects don't have freedom. They don't have the strength to take it unless their ruler actively fucks up. Hard times, contrary to the common wisdom, rarely make strong men - mostly hard times make broken, bent, twisted, weak men.

The rulers don't have freedom. There are things they have to do to remain 'free.' They can't choose to pursue anything other than strength. They can't waste time painting or philosophizing or building model trains or doing artistic bodybuilding or anything that doesn't translate into strength, because if they get too weak, their subjects will rise up or another tyrant will conquer them.

And even if that revolution happens... is anybody any more free? There are, likely, about the same number of rulers now. And about the same number of subjects. Some small handful of people, people who have the potential to be strong by some accident of birth, will take some other handful of people's freedom. Everyone else stays enslaved.

Chaos is about freedom, as long as you don't think 99% of people count. Under Chaos, you can do whatever you want, as long as you want to commit violence.

When Lucifer proclaims Chaos as an ideology of freedom, he's lying. It's an ideology about him being King of Tyrants.

Oh I read the 90s version and all material with Miguel in it, and I assure you the implied reality is pretty dang insane. Which is, pretty much everyone has an AI assistant, Miguel bought Lyla like anyone else would, and he had so few social interactions with people that he didn't realize Lyla was becoming sentient until she proclaimed she was in love with him and tried to kill him.

Also Miguel after that would refuse to hard reboot her or anything and begs his ex girlfriend to bring her back instead of just getting a new AI because Lyla is the only real friend and connection he has in his life.

Her becoming sentient and having feelings is completely unexplained because Miguel is so lonely he refuses to investigate it and risk losing her.

Ngl I read like 7 issues of the 2099 comics (90’s version) so I don’t know Lyla’s origin if it was ever explained.

BUT. I like to think Miguel coded her when he was drunk and had a grand old time writing her personality

when he woke up the next morning he realized “damn this code is good” but drunk him thought it would be funny to hide the code that makes up her personality in a bunch of mess, everytime he tries to edit it she stops working so now he’s stuck with a very useful but extremely bratty AI

I like you person that recognizes that Dan Phantom is half Vlad and that fact should be represented more in his design.

Me when me when I me when Dan is in the Vlad's row because in my opinion he is more Vlad(ish) than Danny at this point (that's one of the reasons why I really do not like when older Danno looks like Dan lol)
