7. (Don’t) Fall in the trap

SIMON

I wake up to Baz sleeping on my chest.

We’re on his bed, I think. Not that it matters.

What matters is Baz’s peaceful face. He’s impossibly graceful, even when sleeping. His hair falls in beautiful waves across his face, his nostrils slightly opening to allow the air in. His chest rises and falls as he breathes, soft sounds escaping his faintly parted lips. He looks so relaxed that he doesn’t seem evil at all. (He doesn’t even feel evil, lately.)

Baz looks fragile right now. But not the something-I-could-easily-finish-off kind of fragile. He looks like something I want to protect.

I resist the urge to tuck his hair behind his ear and ignore the Penny-like voice in my head warning me, “Five times, Simon.”

No, he doesn’t feel evil. Baz feels like home. (And I’m not getting up.) (Like, ever again.)

Baz. What matters is Baz.

Baz grinds his teeth together and clenches his jaw, which tells me that he’s about to wake up. (He always does that.) But I just… want to stay longer just like this.

Okay I know I had a post about this earlier, but Agatha as a character really is the realest in the entire COWS fandom.

Rainbow wrote a book series centred around “hero’s but what if they dealt with trauma”

Agatha

-ignored by Simon

-lead on by Baz

-belittled by Penny

-constantly told her friends weren’t proper because they weren’t magical

-did horse events regularly since she was young get her boyfriend never paid intrest in it

-fell out of love with her boyfriend but didn’t want to leave him because she was scared he’d die and she’d become the villan.

Now, what is, as youth, the main desire after school?

To run away. To leave. To fuck off to another country and start again, leaving everybody behind. To live in California and have friends and go to uni and have a dog. To cut literally everybody off

And she fucking did. She looked at an environment that had never helped her, and left it behind.

Yet people still bash on her? Because they like Simon and Baz and Penny more than her.

I have no tolerance for Agatha hate, she is arguable the best character, as she is living a future majority of our generation strives for. Which is incredible as for majority of her life she was terrified that she would be stuck in a loveless marriage with Simon.

She had a perfect ending, but it was one that the world wants individually, not what the world wanted for her. And I think that’s incredible

“Basilton. May I have a word?”

I’m already standing from my seat when Ms. Possibelf addresses me at the end of the lesson.

“Yes, of course,” I reply, trying not to let it show how much I’m itching to get back to my room and punch Snow in the mouth with my mouth.

“The Mage contacted me today,” she says, and I bite back a smart remark. “He instructed me to find you an alternate housing arrangement for the remainder of the year.”

My fingers curl around my notebook and I clench my teeth. “Alternate housing arrangement?”

“He said that he’s aware both you and Simon have not been pleased to share a room for all these years, and now that several boys have not returned for their eighth year, there are spaces available to relocate you.”

“Relocate me?” I say, even though I could kick myself for simply repeating everything she says. Like I’m an idiot. (Like I’m Snow.) “Why not relocate Snow, then? He’s obviously the one who requested this.”

Not that I want Snow relocated either, but if he’s got such a problem sharing a room with me, then he should be the one to leave. (And there is no way I’m using a communal bathroom for the rest of the year. I need the ensuite.)

“The Mage was clear that Simon should retain the current room, I’m afraid,” she says with a sympathetic look. Perhaps I’m not the only person who recognizes how unfair this whole Mage’s Heir bullshit is.
