Continuing The Research on “The Ouija Board” Podcast
Continuing The Research on “The Ouija Board” Podcast/projectI have no stake involved with this topic other than I am very interested in this topic; that and along side any other means of communication with the dead or any other spiritual being out there - the board is another tool for the spiritual tool kit. On a personal note, I am a shaman, a spiritualist, satanist, and have a firm believe in the unseen. I have only touched the board once, yet I have jewelry for the Planchete and a Ouija board pillow I sleep with. I started talking about the Ouija board for a couple of reasons: while it is a tool for contacting spirits, it is a tool. It’s not exactly the family friendly parlor game that the game originally was marketed for... (1889 marketed to the spiritualist movement) and two: understand all I can about the subject so I am an informed buyer (or crafter) when I finally get the board.
As I have been doing this specific podcast, I have been thinking of the podcast series as a research project.
Needless to say, since I have not touched the board yet* I am no authority in this matter. As I said... the only stake I have here is my interest as a future consumer.
“The Ouija Board”
episode 1 - talks about the board it’s self; what is it? Where does it come from? Why was it conceived? In the episode much information was looked at and included into the origins of the board, what experts in the field have to say about the board scientifically, touching upon when board garnered it’s negative reputation, and briefly including that there is a small sub culture around the board and all of it’s weirdnesses. But also touching upon while the science is fascinating... in extreme cases; the science doesn't explain a planchete being launched off the board, or any other odd inexplicable occurrences as both a consequence or a result of using the board...
episode 2 - because for the most part in media the board is portrayed as a sinister thing, I wondered if there were guidelines to be had. I was not disappointed. I found several sites devoted to listing the guidelines for a positive session including tips to consider as well. If this board is a tool, what are the guidelines - and also coming at this with the understanding that the negative aspect of the board is appealing and provocative... but positive sessions are rarely discussed.
episode 3 - with the guidelines for positive sessions in hand, taking a look at experience stories and analyzing them as case studies as a way to understand who, what, when, where, why, and how a session can go sideways. Additionally, also with keeping the scientific understanding in mind as I read. Per story, read the story again, then examine the guidelines, then discuss which guideline was glossed over or ignored. As a result, one of the most frequent and popular places to have a session is in the home. The other key factor that influences sessions is mindset.
episode 4 - I am (at this moment) doing my research for this episode. (To be recorded and published on 30th December, 2021) The idea for this episode is to take a look at the origins of the sinister reputation of the board. In episode 1 the Wikipedia page for Ouija Boards suggested that when the Exorcist book and movie came out, this 84yr old tool/game (at the time) started being seen in a more sinister light. Its not to say that there may not have been negative experiences related in the 83 years since it came out (the board), but the cultural view truly started to shift after the Exorcist came out in 1973. So the intention of this episode is to examine where the reputation comes from, and then ask the question: who benefits from this reputation.
episode 5? (To be recorded and published on 6th of January, 2022) may be in the conclusion of this series, and the finale... IDK yet.
Now, again: I’m no authority in this subject in any reason other than I am interested in buying the board (or crafting my own one day.) On my part... tools aren’t needed to communicate with the dead, BUT they do help focus energies and intentions. So far, for this research project, keeping in mind the sinister, the positive reputations, the science, the stories, and the guidelines... the board is still very appealing, and for all that it is... it’s earned it place as both a helpful tool, as well as its darker and more sinister side.
But: as with every tool, its up to the user to make up their own mind, and it's up to the user on how they use the tool in the first place.
