synopsis: your friends drag you to one of the biggest halloween parties known on campus and you never imagined yourself meeting someone there who’d be matching costumes with you. bunni speaks: its my first (partial) written chapter for this series! also so sorry this took so long. my wifi was wonky and ate my drafts… i had to rewrite this chapter… BUT nonetheless i seriously cant wait for party 🗣️

after class on thursday, you waited for the rest of group to show up for the meeting. if you could go back in time to choose another major, you would because no one told you how many group projects you had to do or the amount of work you had to cover for you to get a good grade.

your studious reputation didn’t help you make things easier. every time a group project calls for a team leader? all eyes were on you. you were expected to lead and pick up slack.

so, here you are.

waiting for thirty minutes for not even a single soul to show up and everyone leaving the chat on read. when you were beginning to gather your things, yeonjun tossed his bag in an open seat.

“my professor asked me to stay behind after class. where’s everyone else?” he asked.

“not sure,” you mumbled.

yeonjun stared at you as you pulled out your laptop from your bag and some sheets of paper. you weren’t doing much, but you could tell that he was already annoyed with you.

“so, i was thinking that you could start off the presentation,” you started off, but he had already stopped you.

“me? is it because i’m the first one here?”

“no… because i think you’d be a good fit for it,” you explained, “i’ve seen how you presented before and you’re good at public speaking.”

you could see the shock on his face. probably because he wasn’t expecting you to compliment him, but it was true. he was really good in front of other people and presenting was his strong suit.

yeonjun cleared his throat and nodded his head.

“okay, i’ll do it,” he said.

“alright,” you gave him a small smile. probably because it was the first time he had complied to anything you had to say. maybe flattery is the way to yeonjun’s heart?

as the two of you started working on the project, others came with some lame excuse you couldn’t bother to remember and worked on the project for the next thirty minutes or so.

“so, chaewon, you’re going to be doing the presentation with yeonjun. i’ll put the ppt together with mark. jaemin, you’ll research and cite sources for the remaining topics… then you’ll be working with me so it’ll be finalized in the paper. that sounds good?” you asked and scanned their faces.

“can’t i present with chaewon?” jaemin asked.

“yeonjun’s really good at presenting so i think it’s best if he presented for the group,” you answered.

“i’d like to present with yeonjun,” chaewon smiled.

“i’m good at presenting too,” jaemin argued.

“well, yes, you are,” you agreed, “i mean unless chaewon wanted to swap with you. that could work too.”

“what? no, i wanted to present,” chaewon pouted.

the reason why you put those two together was because you knew chaewon would work a little harder around yeonjun. you’ve seen how her eyes twinkled at him and there was no way she was going to make a fool of herself around him. yeonjun was a good student despite his strong opposition towards you and your decisions, so you knew he’d do well.

on the other hand, there was jaemin. he… well… you were pretty sure all he wants to do is flirt with chaewon.

“let’s just keep everything as is and if you really want to present jaemin, maybe yeonjun could find a part for you to present as well,” you peeked over at yeonjun, hopefully he’ll get the hint.

“i mean, i don’t mind swapping with jaemin,” he smirked.

just when you thought you could like him a little bit, he decided to pull this.

“what?” your voice lowered and eyes sharpened at him.

“yeah, why not? i’m good at research and citing sources too,” yeonjun shrugged, “remember?”

you wanted to frown. he was teasing you, maybe getting back at you for asking for his sources.

“i wouldn’t say you were good at it,” you snapped back.

“well, you agreed that jaemin was good at presenting,” he added.

“cool, then yeonjun and y/n will work on the paper together. i’ll present with chaewon,” jaemin clapped his hands together, “it’s settled. i have another class so chaewon, i’ll text you.”

you knew he was running off before you could change it all back. chaewon was already huffing and puffing but she didn’t want to say too much in front of yeonjun. though, you were sure you were going to get a text from her begging you to switch with you so she could write the paper with yeonjun later.

“fine. mark, i’ll text you later so we can meet up sometime this week,” you said.

“cool,” he nodded at you before heading out.

“aw, what about me?” yeonjun forged hurt when asking you.

“research first and text me when you’re done,” you sighed as you gathered all your things to head out.

you really did not like choi yeonjun.

the rest of the week probably went by a little too fast for you. although you made the effort to see him after both your work schedules, the day he had to leave was anything but easy. 

“you’re leaving tomorrow,” you pouted. 

“i know,” he pouted along with you, “i wish i could take you with me.”

“you’ll text me everyday, right?” 

you could feel yourself cringing at yourself, asking that kind of question. never did you ever see yourself being clingy for a boy, but you can’t really say soobin was just any boy. 

“don’t i already do that?” he chuckled.

“okay, well, don’t feel like you have to text me throughout the day if you’re busy. i’m starting to feel bad about all the times i’ve probably bothered you,” you mumbled. 

soobin frowned and pulled you into his lap.

“you could never bother me,” he said as he tucked a stray piece of hair behind your ear, “i still expect daily calls.”

your eyes lingered on his face even longer, trying to memorize every single bit of detail you could. it felt unfair that he had to leave already. 

“is there something on my face?” he asked. 

“no… i just want to make sure i remember what you look like this close,” you explained.

“i already wish i could be here again with you,” he muttered and stared at your features.

“stop looking at me like that. my heart is going to burst,” you chuckled while putting your palms over his eyes. 

“well, as long as i’m the only one making you feel that way,” soobin’s grin grew and even without his sight, he could tell how flustered you were. 

“were you always this smooth? i read your tweets! you were simping for me,” you tried teasing him, but he seemed to be shameless at this point. 

“you think i’m smooth?” 

“i’m leav—“

“no, you’re not!”

you squealed when you felt soobin’s strong arms hold you back down on his lap. your body toppled over his. soobin knew he had to savor these moments because it won’t be for a while before he could enjoy your presences again.

“you know, i do like your hair dark too.”

“okay, but you look at me differently with the blonde hair.”

“i think the blonde is definitely sexy but your dark hair suits you too.”

“well, you’re basically telling me i have to bleach my hair every few weeks now.”

your shared laughter filled the hotel room. the last hour or so, you and soobin were getting readjusted to each other. well… the first twenty minutes or so was spent locking lips on the couch and sharing desperate touches to one another, but eventually the two of you started bickering and definitely flirting like how you normally would.

“you know, i’m going to miss seeing your face like this,” soobin said as his finger traces your jaw, “can’t you just come touring with me?”

“i’d be out of a job,” you joked, still feeling tingles from his touches. you couldn’t seem to get used to them.

“i can pay you,” he offered half jokingly, but you had a feeling he wasn’t joking at all.

“i’m not going to get paid to be your groupie,” you rolled your eyes, “plus you only have one more date left in the states.”

“i wasn’t just talking about the usa portion of the tour,” he said matter-of-factly, “there’s still the second japan part of the tour, macau, singapore, and—“

he stopped when he saw how you looked at him. your answer seemed to be written all over your face, guilt and a small pout. although he knew you couldn’t just drop everything here to join him, but just imagining it had him feeling warm inside. 

“i know it’d be so much fun, but i couldn’t possibly do that right now. no matter how much i’d want to,” you giggled, “we’re not even dating so it wouldn’t even make sense for me to go with you.”

“we’re not?” he asked innocently and slightly heartbroken from your statement.

“well, neither of us asked each other to and you’ll be on tour so i didn’t want to hold you down or—“

“would you be my girlfriend?” he abruptly asked.

“huh?”

“you wouldn’t be holding me down,” soobin told you, holding eye contact while fiddling with your fingers, “ i want you.”

“you’re serious?” you needed confirmation. 

“i’ve been committed to talking to you everyday since we started regularly,” soobin spoke lowly before pulling you closer to him by your waist, “please, be mine.”

“o-okay,” you choked, noticing how close your faces were, “yeah.”

“okay?” soobin wasn’t really asking for confirmation. he already had the biggest shit-eating grin plastered on his face before grazing his lips on yours. 

“yes,” you whispered so softly before fully attaching your lips to his.

when you watched the time hit six on your watch, you let out a deep breath. you were walking to the hotel, and if someone saw you right now, they’d probably thought you were either going to rob a bank or you were back in 2020 during peak covid. you were masked up with dark shades and a hoodie over your head partially because you were knowingly meeting up with a celebrity but also no amount of ice could help depuff your eyes or face from how much you cried the day prior.

the amount of times you were going to shoot soobin a message to tell him that you couldn’t make it should’ve told you to cancel but despite of it, you were curious to what he had to say. although, you could feel yourself walking into another rejection when you see the front entrance. when you step foot into the lobby, your eyes found him instantaneously and his eyes already on you.

you could choke from how he looked at you. he was like a lost puppy scurrying over to you. he definitely looked guilty but your mind was too occupied with other thoughts to notice.

as he got closer to you, him telling you how he liked your letter replayed in your head. was it too late to leave? probably, considering he was leading you to the elevator so the two of you could talk in a more private setting.

“how was your day?” he asked you.

you leaned back at the walls of the elevator, staring down at your feet, “i went to work.”

“y/n… i—“

he was interrupted when another group of people came into the elevator. soobin choose silence until you reached his floor and the silence was deafening. seeing you in person, he could tell you were not in the mood to be here. he’s never seen this side of you. it was clear there was a wall in front of you this time. a barrier that you built just so he couldn’t get through.

reaching his room, soobin let out the biggest sigh. he peeled his mask off, fully expecting you to do the same, but you only stood there… in full gear, not even bothering to take off your backpack.

“you can take off you backpack and be comfortable.”

“oh, i didn’t think this was going to take long,” you said almost too coldly for him to handle before peeling the straps off your shoulders.

soobin felt his lips quivering. the distance between the two of you felt even further than when he was in seoul. he regretted never telling you that he likes you, but it didn’t matter because he wanted to fix it.

“are you avoiding me?”

that’s not… exactly what he wanted to say…

you didn’t say anything. if you said no, it’d be a lie. if you said yes, you might burst into tears… again.

soobin pouted. he felt so frustrated and upset. more so at himself than you. all he had to do was say three simple words two nights ago. how could it have slipped his mind?

“i like you,” he blurted out which was met with silence on your part, but he continued to ramble, “a lot. like crazy. more than gojo. more than anything. i should’ve said it two nights ago. i should’ve kissed you two nights ago. i was so nervous but so happy when i read your letter i completely blanked out. oh my god, and when the guys said i messed up. i had no idea. i didn’t want to move too fast because i thought i’d scared you and—“

“soo—“

“no, i’m not done yet,” he stopped you from saying anything because he felt the need to explain even further, “when you weren’t responding to me, i felt so dumb. when i saw that picture of you and your friend, i was so jealous. just one day without speaking to you felt like torture. i’ll tell you everyday. no, every hour that i like you so you won’t doubt my feelings again.”

“soo—“

“and—“

“hey—“

“i like you so much. i’m sorry if i hurt you. i didn’t mean it. i really didn’t mean it,” soobin’s eyes started to water, “please forgive me.”

he couldn’t see through your sunglasses but your eyes softened seeing how much he panicked and your heart was thumping so fast from hearing his sudden confession.

“wait, don’t cry. i’m gonna cry,” you said as you took a few steps towards him, feeling your own tears about to well up, “i forgive you, okay?”

“really?” his eyes perked up, glistening with his tears and a shear peak of hope, “because i really like you and would love to show you how much i do before i have to leave new york.”

his personality on screen also seemed very on par with who he was in front of you and who he has been for the last few months. you almost felt bad thinking the worse when you two last met; you had believed he played with your feelings by sending you mixed signals, but soobin seemed so innocent and so pure when he spoke to you.

you stared at his eyes through your dark frames and nodded.

“can i please take off your sunglasses and mask? i want to tell you that i like you while looking at your whole face…”

you laughed and broke eye contact to take them off yourself. soobin took a step closer. his fingers nervously swept the strands of hair out of your face, causing you to peek at him through your lashes. he caressed your cheek with his thumb before he leaned down and softly pressed his lips against yours.

your heart felt like it was going to leap out of your chest. the amount of relief you felt knowing that he was reciprocating your feelings had you feeling like you were floating.

“i like you,” soobin only parted from your lips to say those words, but even then, his lips were still gently brushing against yours and you could feel his breath on your skin.

everything about that moment was electrifying. it felt like a 4th of july celebration with the sparks flying around the two of you, and when he reconnected your lips together again, you were actually melting. your legs felt like putty and you weren’t sure how much time you had before you lost their support.

“okay, and then what happened?”

“and then i read the letter and she said she liked me… more than gojo.”

soobin couldn’t wipe the grin off his face. when he got back to the hotel that day, he was kicking his feet and rolling in his bed, reading the letter another thousand times. his heart was going so fast last night that he was only able to get two hours of sleep before he was forced to get up for his next schedule in new york.

even with the lack of slumber, he was elated to tell his group mates about what had happened last night in the car. not a hint of tiredness in his bones. 

hitting soobin’s arm, huening started giggling for him. despite all of the shit they give him, they all always supported him and was beaming in anticipation for the two of you.

“she has a whole fan account with over ten thousand followers for that man,” yeonjun added. 

soobin happily and proudly nodded. that was right. you must like him a lot for you to make that kind of claim. 

“okay like did you guys kiss?” beomgyu wanted all the juicy details and he wanted it now. don’t get him wrong. he loves soobin and his conquest for love, but he’s been a puppy with heart eyes and was dancing around the details all morning. 

“wh-what—no?” soobin stuttered. 

“what?” the rest of them said in unison. even the driver was startled by them. 

“i… well, i couldn’t find the right time?” 

“oh my god,” yeonjun slapped his own forehead. 

taehyun groaned as he leaned back in his seat. kai had his jaw dropped, completely taken aback. beomgyu… well, he was laughing.

“you literally had it handed to you!” taehyun shouted, “she told you she likes you.”

“listen, i might not be that social with other girls, but even i know that you should’ve kissed her last night!” kai added. 

“isn’t it too early?” soobin mumbled.

“no!” once again they all shout in unison. 

“we leave the end of the week,” yeonjun sighed, “when you going to kiss her? over a webcam… come on, i know you can do better than that.”

“she probably thinks you don’t like her because you didn’t kiss her,” beomgyu said.

“no-o, she wouldn’t think that… right?” 

“did you tell her you liked her?”

“…”

“oh my god, soobin,” yeonjun looked like he wanted to cry from frustration. 

“why didn’t you tell her?” taehyun yelled.

“sooyn is over,” kai dramatically cried. 

now, you’re probably wondering what had happened last night for soobin to mess up that badly. well, to put it simply, he just wasn’t thinking. after reading the letter, soobin was in shock. you might even wanna say that he completely blacked out. he was definitely giddy about getting a confession from you, but he had no coherent thoughts in his head. 

poor guy didn’t even realize he never explicitly said he liked you. nor did he realize the look of disappointment (and confusion) in your face when all he told you was he really liked your letter and hugged you at the end of the night, before sending you off in a cab with the luggage full of gifts. 

“i said i liked the letter!” soobin shouted. 

“i didn’t think it could get worse,” beomgyu tightened his lip and shut his eyes.

“what now?” soobin whimpered. 

“you left it open ended!” taehyun added, “she’s going to think you’re friendzoning her. i mean, i’d think that too considering you’re a celebrity! and she’s a normal person!”

“okay, did you guys talk at all today yet?” yeonjun asked.

you haven’t messaged him this morning yet and soobin was rereading your letter before he had to rush for his schedule to even think to look at his phone.

soobin’s silence earned him more sighs from the rest of them. 

“our ship is dead… and soobin sunk it,” taehyun pretended to faint in his car seat. 

unsurprisingly, the boys were right. you indeed felt like your feelings were unreciprocated.
