more on smptwt (long post)

I’d like to preface this by saying that I do not in any way think that stupid twitter drama is more important than everything else going on in the world right now. The reason I am making this post is that I feel strongly about the misrepresentation of people’s words and actions and this is a prime example of this from a fandom I am deeply involved in. If you’d like to see posts focussed on BLM and ACAB please check out my other posts about it or official sites/donation pages/petition pages to find out ways you can help.

This post is going to try to give you the most up-to-date information about smptwt and lunch club members. You do not need to go onto twitter to ‘confirm’ these things, as I have provided screenshots where I can. I do not recommend using twitter right now, especially smptwt. Additionally, I don’t get everything right. If there is something I get wrong in this post or something you disagree with, please either DM me or comment/reblog this post. Your opinion matters, especially if you’re a POC fan of Lunch Club/smplive! I am white, so there could be something insensitive I am saying that I’m unaware of. Please let me know if this is the case!

I’ve tried to add as much evidence as possible, but if you have extra evidence, especially twitch clips, please DM them to me so I can make this as factual and unbiased as possible!

Now let’s talk about twitch streamers. This is gonna be a long post. We’ll go through the members of lunch club one at a time, then other things at the end.

First, Carson. I am very proud of Carson right now. Not only did he apologise for saying slurs/making racist jokes in the (distant) past, but he is currently using his platform to support JusticeForGeorgeFloyd. He donated over $1K to Travis’ charity stream for bail fund charities.

He apologised multiple times on his recent botw streams for his past actions. His apology seems incredibly genuine, as have his previous apologies, and I really believe he is a good person. He explains what he did, why it was wrong, and how he acknowledges that he did it even though he wanted to hide it. If you want to continue watching lc members but don’t want any drama surrounding them, Carson is the way to go.

Next, Ted. He’s been the most vocal out of all the lc members about BLM and JusticeForGeorgeFloyd by posting on twt and using his platform for good, and currently has no drama surrounding him:

He’s great and we love him. The only ‘drama’ right now is the way people are treating Madi, his girlfriend, seen in this tweet:

But really this is self-explanatory and I haven’t seen anyone getting angry about this yet, so hopefully, this won’t be a long-lasting issue.

What I’m going to say about Charlie is similar. He is a ray of sunshine in these very dark times and the lack of drama surrounding him is great. He has been actively posting about BLM and JusticeForGeorgeFloyd with his own statements attached to the tweets, showing his own takes on the situation. He’s awesome and his streams are like instant serotonin so that’s nice.

As for Noah? He’s been silent on the current issues, which has pissed a lot of fans off. They say he should be using his platform to promote BLM and that he is part of the problem if he doesn’t. While I understand why people with platforms should be using them, I don’t agree that they are ‘part of the problem’ if they aren’t. Some people don’t want to put negative/political things on their twitter because it is a space for people to relax in and take their minds off of things.

Also, Noah doesn’t post content often and is one of the less popular members of lc because of this. Him posting links that his more popular friends have already posted wouldn’t necessarily give the cause more attention. Plus we don’t know what is happening in Noah’s personal life right now, or if he has donated to BLM related causes/signed petitions. It seems absurd to me that people are trying to label him as a bad person not because he has said something bad, but because he has said nothing. Of course, I understand that silence only aids the oppressor, but again, even though it’d be nice for him to say something, I don’t expect it from him.

On to the longer segments.

Now onto Travis. He recently got hate for saying he is anti-ACAB. Now, that sounds bad, but I haven’t put it into context. He was streaming and someone asked him if he supports ACAB. Now, Travis didn’t know what it meant, so he asked chat to explain. He was given the meaning of the acronym with no context and then said ‘oh… I don’t really support that’. Imagine you’re live in front of thousands of people and someone asks you if you support something you’ve never heard of before, despite you stating you don’t like being political, then you see what it means and it sounds incredibly harsh and radical. I don’t think the criticism of Travis here stands.

Again, people are trying to shit on Travis for not being political enough, which is just cruel, to be honest, not everyone has the mental energy for that and Travis’ streams are a break from the real world, at least to me. Travis also apparently stated that he doesn’t want to vote, which I don’t agree with but I am mature enough to respect his views on it and know that he has his own reasons for it. People on twitter, however, don’t seem to get that.

Also, people tried to shit on Travis for using the r-slur before, but as far as I know, he has ADD/ADHD and is allowed to reclaim the word. I’ve seen autistic and neurodivergent people backing him up on this, so I don’t think it’s a big deal.

Anyway, people on twitter are looking pretty stupid right now, because Travis just did a 12-hour charity stream for bail fund charities. It was a great stream and I really enjoyed it, and also Carson donated over 1K to it, so that’s pretty pog. He raised $7,000 total for 37 charities. When picking a charity to donate to he used the chat and friends to help him pick a good and reputable one, showing his maturity and how he has learnt from his ‘mistake’ of not educating himself properly. Here’s Trav’s tweet confirming this!

Now, onto Schlatt. I’m going to try to not be biased since he was the first member of lc I discovered and he is my ‘favourite’ in terms of content. I owe a lot to him and his videos but I’m going to try to be level-headed when talking about him. Basically, he’s been accused of saying the n-word and other slurs including the f-slur. The screenshot of him saying the n-word in a discord chat last year could be real or fake.

A year ago Schlatt was a very different person. His jokes were edgier, his mic was louder, he actually streamed on twitch. A lot can happen in a year, and I’d like to think that Schlatt has changed. I personally can tell the difference in comedy styles from then compared to now. For example, his classic gay jokes have become less weird for me, a queer and trans person, to hear. I’m not sure if I can explain that, but the way he has shifted from ‘gay = funny because gross’ to ‘gay = funny because no one knows if I’m telling the truth or not’ makes it more comfortable for me, at least.

Schlatt’s humour is still edgy, but less so. It’s kind of his ‘brand’ to be controversial in a comedic way. I don’t think he is actually right-wing, but I don’t care to speculate about someone as conflicting as Schlatt. If he did say the n-word, that’s not a funny joke, and doesn’t count as ‘edgy humour’, or ‘it’s okay cause it’s just a joke bro’ but it was a year ago. As I just explained, his jokes have changed greatly in the past year, and I think despite the lack of apology, Schlatt is okay with me.

An apology would be nice, but I’m not going to pressure him into doing it. I’d like to see him use his platform to promote BLM, since he is quite popular, but here are some tweets I’ve seen which explain better than I can why he doesn’t have to to still be a good person.

Finally, we move on to the main event. The reason this all started in the first place. Oh, Cooper, what will we do now? Now that’s out of the way, I’d like to address two main things that have happened since that post: the crumb drama (tw/cw) and Cooper’s recent ‘24 hour’ stream.

For those of you who don’t know, crumb was a twitter artist who drew art for lc and ended up becoming friends with them, especially Cooper. She is 15. For some reason, once everything started with the Cooper Drama, some stan somewhere decided to randomly accuse Cooper of grooming crumb with no evidence at all. In the end, crumb deleted her twitter and posted a series of Instagram stories about it. I’m only going to show one of the many stories here out of respect, but if you want to see everything crumb has said about the situation, you can find it on her Instagram. The fact that smptwt has gone this far disgusts me, and makes me so upset:

I agree with most of what Condi has said here, and while an eventual apology from Cooper would be nice, you need to wait for him to be in the right headspace to process everything. Attacking crumb was the worst thing twt could’ve done, and it has only esculated an already out of hand situation. Cooper needs a break, he needs time to breathe, he needs time to think. Twitter isn’t giving him time, demanding an immediate apology in a matter of hours and not letting up until he does what they want. It is toxic, and it is wrong.

Now, Cooper’s stream. [Again, I don’t have clips], but Cooper was doing a 24-hour minecraft stream with some friends today and yesterday, and what happened was a mess I got to witness live. The stream started slightly unnaturally, about 10 mins late but that wasn’t the problem. Cooper sounded very nervous, speaking quickly and high-pitched. He didn’t sound fit to stream, but he was doing it anyway and the nervous sound went away once some friends joined him. The chat was obviously messy for a while, but eventually turned into a normal cscoop chat, full of depravity and a complete hellscape, in a good way this time.

Cooper seemed pretty happy for a good portion of the stream, yawning a few times but saying he was ready to power through it. Travis raided him after his charity stream and joined in on the stream for a little while. It was good while it lasted.

At hour 13, Cooper was muted for a while as his friends joked around and vibed. Then, when Cooper came back, he played normally for about 20 mins and then started to complain about how tired he was. The chat said he should stop streaming but he didn’t want to at first, then asked if anyone else was streaming so he could hand it over to them, he sounded almost desperate to save the video. In the end, he agreed to stop streaming, saying not ‘I’m tired’ but ‘I need to relax’.

I don’t think I need to say what I’m thinking happened here. Cooper is clearly not in the right mindset to stream right now, let alone make a statement on twitter about everything that’s going on. Please, if you are going to post about him, do not @ him and do not throw around accusations with no evidence. What he said 2-5 years ago was fucked up, but his life doesn’t need to be torn apart. Crumb’s life doesn’t need to be torn apart. They are young, for god’s sake. Crumb is 15. Just let Cooper learn from his mistakes and let everyone move on.

Oh also? people apparently tried to fucking doxx Cooper (which is not only fucked up and illegal, but also puts him, his family AND the friends he lives with in danger) so if you had a part in that I hope you unfollow me, block me, and get off of social media. You don’t deserve a platform for your hate.

Sorry, I got angry there. I think we should talk about something more positive.

Wilbur Soot! He apologised for saying the t-slur in a video. He didn’t know what it meant and immediately took down the video when he found out. Then he apologised and even said ‘this is for the trans people and allies I hurt with my words, NOT the people trying to cancel me on twitter’ which just shows how useless cancel culture can be. Anyway we stan Wilbur for being sweet and awesome.

Finally, I’d just like to say that the smplive reunion is coming up on June 6th, and plenty of people have said that they are sorry for the awful timing of it but the charity they are supporting is very worthwhile and they are in no way trying to overshadow the BLM movement.
