I wonder if people understand how frustrating it is to enjoy Percy Jackson when you already knew a little about Greek myths and, on top of that, Ares is your favorite god. It's hard to ignore him and find other things to like in the series.

As an Ares fan, one of the worst parts about new Greek mythology franchises is knowing I'll have to brace myself for another mediocre portrayal of my favorite god.

I'm not sure if this was caused by a tired brain or...no, it was probably that. I started randomly cracking myself up as I thought about Ares just being canonically loud with battle cries and other yells. So naturally, that made me think about him being loud with crying too. He's not even trying to be. Imagine this scene with me.

He's at one of his kids' weddings. He is doing his absolute best to be very stoic and sit in the audience like the other guests and family. He's war after all. He should be a little dignified, but it is just not happening. The music starts playing, the kid is going down the aisle, he sees that they've fully grown up now, and the floodgates are opening. You'd think that the helmet would make this less noticeable since you can't see his face. You'd think the cloak coming up would be able to stifle the sound. Nope.

It's just the loudest sob ever. The person officiating the marriage isn't sure if it should count as an objection or not. The poor couple can barely hear each others' vows. Meanwhile, Ares is just trying to stop and can't. His siblings always talk about it for at least several months in mortal time afterwards.

He better not walk anyone down the aisle either because that just makes it infinitely worse. He certainly isn't ready for the dance afterwards, but the kids probably still do this so that they can assure him it's okay and that they'll always be his children.

If you wonder why there's a sudden war after one of the weddings, this is why. He feels like he has to fix his reputation.
