❝ wasn’t threatening me, just trying to make sense of what’s going through your head is all. ❞ she shrugged as she spoke, narrowing her eyes at his comment. he was correct, of course, and that was annoying to her. the mayor hated lucy gray and would do anything to pin mayfair’s death on her. that was why they’d gone out here to begin with. ❝ can you blame me for being scared ? your hand was coming toward my face with something from your pocket , could have been payback for the snake for all i know, ❞ lucy gray said in a calm voice as she tried to pretend that she was reverting back to how she was before . ❝ thanks, darlin’, ❞ she smiled before taking a sip. this could work, the brunette thought as she studied him. she could get him to trust her this way and then one day she could run and finally get away from him. ❝ maybe we could share the bed, just for tonight. i thought about it and the floor wouldn’t be good for either of us. you know, with your snake bite and my stomach hurting this badly. ❞ she was hoping he’d fall right into the trap she was laying.
After shutting the door back, he turned to her like he was surprised she suspected he had ran off. "Well. Of course I'm back, Lucy Gray." he responds confusingly, ignoring why she would have any ideas he wouldn't. Dirt stains still stuck to his shirt, forearms, hands and his face as he stares at her. Glancing down at his shirt, he realizes that and decides to go sit in the chair next to his bag to take out a clean one. "I'll let you go now, if you want." But not actually. He may let her go of the restraints, but he can't ever let her go now.

❝ you would if you weren’t afraid i’d somehow get out and tell on you, ❞ she spoke plainly, lips pursing together in thought as she watched him going to undo the restraints. letting her arms down, lucy gray tensed, watching as he pulled something from his pocket and moved toward her face with it. her hand instinctively wrapped around his wrist, trying to stop him before realizing he was just putting her earring back in. the smile caught lucy gray off guard for a moment, he almost seemed sweet, like the coriolanus she had fallen in love with. almost. ❝ can you get me water ? ❞ maybe she could trick him, pretend to be the lucy gray he wants her to be. it was key to her survival, after all. compliance until she had a better plan. she’d make him think that she was giving up on leaving. it would work. it had to work.

❝ thought you'd leave me tied here and go back to the capitol or somethin', ❞ lucy gray said bitterly with an eyeroll. after all, that was what he wanted, right ? to leave her for dead and go back to the capitol with all of the other corrupt citizens that believed they were better just because they weren't district. ❝ yes, let me go. i won't try to run. ❞ the lies flowed easily from her now that she didn't care about hurting him or having him trust her. this was coriolanus' fault, really. he was the one that had broken her trust by lying to her. she loved him, but now she was sure that she couldn't ever feel that way about him again.

lucy gray was still in the bed, no longer struggling, just mumbling to herself, trying to make a plan to get away from the man. she wanted him to let her go, but he was clearly more stubborn than she thought. she decided that she would be as awful as she could to get him to leave her alone. or maybe she could act as if she loved him again, get him to trust her once more before betraying him. he'd already broken what they had, so she would feel no remorse when it came to him. anything she did to him was deserved. especially because of the pain in her stomach and the dizziness she'd felt before. he had to have done something to her. she just knew it. ❝ oh you're back ? ❞ she called when she'd heard the door open once again.
"I would like to let you go, Lucy Gray. But I can't." he simply responded, holding her other wrist down to the rails, ignoring how mad and combative she was. "You've given me no choice, to not trust you." he tightly tied her last wrist then moved down to tie her ankles to the bed next, leaving her exactly as put, restrained to a mattress. "I'll be back. I promise." A smile graced his lips, gently taking hold of her chin with his mud stained hand, softly brushing hair away from her cheek. Forcing himself to forget all of the horrible things he'll keep a life long grudge for her to make her feel crazier with his bizarre kindness. Then he pulled away, turning to leave.

lucy gray yanked at the restraints, desperately trying to loosen them at the very least as he took her chin. she glared at him, letting him know just how pissed off she was with her expression alone. as she watched him leave, she continued to struggle on the bed, trying to force her way out. one hand was starting to slip out but wasn't quite there yet. just a little more, she thought as she continued. he'd pay for this, for holding her hostage and keeping her tied down like that. ❝ i hate you, ❞ she finally spoke out loud when he was gone. she meant it. mostly.

the anger coursing through her didn't die down, only grew the more as he secured her to the railing of the bed in the cabin. he would regret tying her up like that, she thought as she yanked her wrists, trying to find any potential breaking point where she could free at least one wrist. ❝ let me go now, coriolanus. ❞ lucy gray didn't trust him when he told her that it would only be until he got back. she didn't believe anything he said anymore. the fact was, he wanted to get rid of the last loose end-- her. he couldn't quite bring himself to do it with the gun, so he'd poisoned her back when she'd still trusted him. it wasn't enough to finish her off and now he was keeping her prisoner because she knew too much and he couldn't kill her because a twisted part of him still loved her. that was what she'd pieced together, anyway. that was the only logical explanation she could make sense of.
"The bigger person doesn't sit in the floor, pouting, refusing to take the bed." Coryo corrected, this time busy thinking of what to tie her limbs with. He was next over by his bag once the idea appeared in his head, pulling out a pair of spare pants and a small knife, tearing the material into strips. "Yes, you are getting on the bed. It's the only way I know you'll stay put." he came back over to announce once he had enough, grabbing her yet again but this time underneath her knees and other arm wrapping around her back since her arms are crossed, placing her on top of the bed and quickly grabbing her left arm to pin it to the headboard so he can begin to tie her wrist to the metal rails. "If you didn't enjoy playing games, I wouldn't have to do this."

❝ the bigger person gives up comfort for the other, so yes i am being the bigger person, darlin'. ❞ she tried to get away, kicking and throwing hands as he tied her down. ❝ so now i'm even more of a prisoner. let me go, i don't want to be tied to the bed. i don't want to be near you. ❞ she almost uttered that she hated him but refrained only because she knew that he'd spiral or something. not that she cared if he did. did she ? . . . maybe a little. lucy gray hated how she still cared even a little about him. part of her may always love him, but she'd keep that locked deep down inside of her.

❝ i am, you’re just mad at the fact that i’m choosing to be the bigger person. ❞ lucy gray informed him before letting out a groan. ❝ put me down, coriolanus ! i’m not sleeping on that bed. ❞ she felt like a child refusing their bedtime or vegetables. ❝ no, because i’m sleeping on the floor. i’m being benevolent by givin’ up the bed, so stop trying to take my kind act away ! ❞ plus, if she slept on the floor, it would be easier to get up and leave. to escape her captor, because yes that’s what she thought of coriolanus now. he was holding her hostage and she was stuck. if things had maybe been different, maybe it would have been her own decision to stay, but she didn’t have a choice in the matter. lucy gray slunk back down to the floor, defiance in her eyes as she crossed her arms. she’d regret choosing the floor later, but right now she was being stubborn.
❝ don't start what ? i'm just letting you know that you can take the bed. i'm being nice. ❞ everything between them was seemingly an argument now. as he set her down on the bed, she crossed her arms. she slowly sunk down to the floor, making sure not not injure her ankle any more. ❝ i'm going to sleep now. goodnight, coriolanus. do not put me back on that bed. ❞ with that, she shut her eyes, sighing. it was uncomfortable, but she's slept in worse conditions.

❝ i think i read somewhere you only need, like, thirty minutes of sleep to be awake for ten hours. so ... okay i can't do the math, but it worked. ❞ at least she told herself it did as a yawn escaped. when they arrived and he parked, lucy gray slowly undid her seatbelt and reached to open her door, yawning again. ❝ do you think anybody would be mad if i skipped class so i can sleep ? ❞ she questioned. the olive skinned girl hadn't anticipated crashing this soon. maybe it would be different after getting food in her system, but right now she was exhausted. she just hoped he wouldn't judge her too badly for this. it wasn't typical she'd stayed up that late. not since the summer before college.
“Yeah, almost.” he chuckled, but then wondered how he would have felt towards the other person if he had been in her place. Just the idea of it made his mind melt into a dark rage, it was a terrible, disgusting, terrifying thought. Terrifying because how did he truly know Lucy Gray wouldn’t betray him in that way? What was he doing exactly…allowing himself to be so vulnerable. He kept asking himself that time and time again, but wasn’t doing anything to push her away before it was too late. “Two minutes? That must be like a super power, Lucy Gray?” Confusion knitted his brows, another chuckle sounding from him. “I’ll make it somehow.” he answered while concentrating on finding a place to park once the GPS signaled they’ve arrived.

A sigh immediately emitted from him, placing her down on the bed once he nudged the door shut behind him. “Don’t start, Lucy Gray.” If he knows her by now, it’s she’ll turn this into an hour long argument next. It sounded ridiculous where she cared where he slept anyway. “Why wouldn’t it be the other way around?” he questions as he steps back, assuming she’s probably doing it just to give more of a headache than she already has.

the silence was deafening as they returned to the cabin. she stayed quiet, heart racing as she looked to him for a moment. was he silent because he planned to harm her ? the thought crossed her mind a few times before she forced it away. no, he would have already. ❝ you can take the bed then, if i'm going to be forced to stay here. i'll sleep on the floor. ❞ stubbornness was all she had going for her at the moment, so she was going to stay that way, use it the best to her advantage. she wasn't going to be sharing a bed with him, and she most definitely wouldn't listen to him complain about sleeping on the floor.
❝ it's controlling because i don't want to be near you. can't you understand that ? you broke my trust and i'll never trust you again. ❞ she was pissed that he wasn't just letting her go. lucy gray hated that coriolanus just wouldn't let her be, she'd given him plenty of opportunities to leave and go back to the capitol while she stayed out here. maybe threatening to tell on him was detering him, but she was bluffing. she wouldn't actually unless he'd give her a reason to.
the brunette almost snarled at him as he grabbed her chin. his words had her glaring with more hatred than she'd ever looked at another person. ❝ the world isn't safe because you won't leave me alone. i'm safer without you trying to force me to stay with you. just go back to the capitol. i won't tell anybody, just-- stay away from me. ❞ as he picked her back up, the fight in her had died out. her ankle was hurt, so she couldn't get away anyway. plus, she wasn't sure how far she'd be able to get without stopping due to lack of air.

“Since when do people who love people do such things?” he questions in such a confused manner it’s hard to believe he’s not full of good intentions, despite being one of those people. “I just don’t want to lose you and never see you again. It isn’t controlling.” he believes, downplaying how he does want to keep his songbird in a cage. The blond would never say it out loud, he’ll always twist his own thinking, even easily convince himself of what he says. Jaw locked tight once she gets up and runs again, his mood wavering back and forth as he stands to trail over where she fell. The gun in his hand, unpredictable blues staring down at it. How could he stand here and not end her life after everything she’s said to him? Not allow her to reap what she’s sowed? She’d just cause him more trouble, continue to be in the way of his goals, but… what would he do without her? Now that he’s gotten so attached.
Just like when he was a small child, he didn’t deal well with letting his toys go. He hyper fixated on one and never wanted to change or let go of it. Coriolanus let that anger causing him to clutch the gun go, propping it back against a tree. He once again would have to come back for it. “Oh, Lucy Gray,” he turned back to her with a lecturing tone, the brunette curled up on the forest floor looked so vulnerable and pathetic, “the world isn’t a safe place. It’s sad watching you try to run and fail at it every time.” he crouched down, gently grabbing her jaw, blues peering up as he mustered the next words, “And pointlessly…” he soon concluded, looking back down at her, icy hues landing back on her face that his hand let go of, “when it’s much safer with me.” His arms pried underneath her back, scooping her up bridal style and trying this again at reaching the cabin. Maybe one day they’ll finally reach it.

❝ i'm just trying to figure this whole thing out, i'm not confusing. i'm confused, but i think i've pieced it together -- you wanted to kill me, the last loose end, but you couldn't bring yourself to kill me with your gun because you love me too much, but have to get rid of me, so you decided to poison me. ❞ lucy gray narrowed her eyes at him, trying to figure out if she'd cracked the case or not. ❝ you're being controlling because you won't let me go. stop acting like you're doing everything for good reasoning. ❞ she hated how easily he could lie. as he dropped her, the brunette fell to the ground, groaning out in pain for a moment before scrambling to her feet. this was her chance, she thought. the second she began to run, sharp pain shot through her ankle. she winced as she let out a cry of pain. she wasn't going to be able to run.
“How does that make sense? I don’t understand you. Now I’m not capable of harming you, because I love you? But the next moment, I am capable but I yet love you? Again, I don’t understand you.” The word love, just reciting it made his face twist in disgust. He definitely ignores the first time part, forgetting that ever happened. Her hits to his back make it easier to ignore, flinching and grimacing as her fists cause his spine to hurt. “There’s no reason to fight it…nothing to fight at all.” he gave a hard sigh, acting like there was no reason at all for her to be acting as such. “How am I controlling you just because I’m taking you back to our only shelter here?” he scoffed, pretending she was overreacting. Maybe convincing himself she was overreacting because he didn’t think it was controlling, she should feel so grateful he plans to keep her rather than kill her. “Because I don’t want you to leave me?” he forced himself to say. “How is that—” Biting his lip again to stifle a wince, “control?” he wondered between grunting, since wondering sounded innocent enough. That next hit sends him uncurling his arm around her and purposely dropping her, immediately crouching down to find her gaze while the gun in his other hand props against the ground next to him, “Is that ALL you have, Lucy Gray? I’ve endured worse.” His jaw clenching as he antagonized, holding back the pain of the throbbing she’s left against his shoulder from the bite and the hits to his spine.

❝ maybe i do. but the fact of the matter is, you're not capable of it. mayfair and bobbin were easy because they tried to hurt you and me, but me ? i'm the girl you love. the girl you gave your first time to. ❞ lucy gray was trying to make more jabs at him, while simultaneously hurting herself, but she'd never admit that. ❝ i don't know, but what i do know is it didn't work in the way you wanted it to. ❞ the brunette answered about the poison before cutting him off with her violent attempts at escape. ❝ no, this is another attempt of yours to be in control. let me tell you something, darlin', you aren't in control of me. you'll never have that power over me. even if you think you do, i'll fight until my dying breath. ❞ the way he'd slowed down wasn't lost on her, it only aggravated her more. another hit to his spine, hoping it would be enough for him to let go.
“I think you’re only saying that because you want to die. An attempt to provoke me?” She’d rather him kill her than be another second with him… hm. Well, if that’s so, he’ll ensure she lives. “Say what you want to.” But she’ll never convince him either she wasn’t trying to murder him which in return murdered what little trust he did hold for her between them. “WHERE? Where is the poison at on me, Lucy Gray?! You clearly don’t know a thing about what ingesting even a little rat poison would do to y—” An uncomfortable zing of pain shot up his spine as he tightened his grip on her thrashing and moving his head to the side to DODGE her kicks, an unexpected BITE sinking down into his shoulder caused him to jolt. Eliciting a grimace as he sucked in his lower lip to bite back the mild pain. “No, Lucy Gray. I’m giving you a lift out of the kindness of my heart,” he gritted his teeth, dryly speaking, “you seemed like you needed it. Meanwhile, you are acting like a child. An animal.” He was in such a hurry, now he decided to slow down like she had previously done to make her enjoy riding hung over his shoulder even longer.
