❝ i'm glad you think so, darlin', ❞ she said, feigning an innocent tone, though she's sure he's pissed at her for the way she'd acted seeing as she was still angry at the way he acted. lucy gray would never understand why he thought he could lie to her and that everything would just be okay. even though she was pretending she was back to her old self again, she'd still keep that hatred for him locked deep down inside of her. he'd ruined the love she'd once had for him.
❝ okay, good, just making sure. i wouldn't want our baby to resent you for keeping them locked away. ❞ she knew that would add insult to injury, even if he was too proud to show her words' effects on him. ❝ i'm glad we're on the same page, because after all, our child should come first. ❞ making the switch from my child to our child was hard on lucy gray, selfishly wanting to be possessive over her baby, the one she'd carry to term in her body. it took two to make a baby, sure, but she'd be the one to provide for it more even before they're born. ❝ i think, too, we should put the wedding off. until after they're born. ❞ put it of for the fifth of never. she didn't want to marry him, to be trapped.
"That doesn't change things. Anger's a fleeting emotion, Lucy Gray." he chuckles through the lie, anger clung and it rooted deeply to his nature– like he'd always remember who wronged him, dating back to playground bullies like Livia Cardew, Dean Highbottom and his every attempt to make him suffer and demolish his life, the rebels destroying his family, Lucy Gray betraying him. All that anger caused by each person, each experience, still clung strongly and hadn't fled anywhere. So he certainly won't be forgetting that latter part, but he'll never admit to it on the outside. Let her have access to see it burning bitterly and ugly inside of him.
"I'm not planning that." But he is still planning to keep her watched at all times, he just has to finish his career path, wherever it may lead then he can afford all of the security he'll possibly need to keep her well guarded from escaping and taking their child with her. Really, the thought of ensuring he secures Lucy Gray and their child from leaving him, it just motivates his drive and determination that he keeps climbing to the top from here. It'd calm his anxiety about it, his restless sleep at night. At least to a certain degree. "You and the baby will have freedom, I wouldn't confine them to a bedroom for life. And what? Mold them in a reclusive being? No, I agree with you. They do need space to thrive."

❝ are you sure ? i mean, billy taupe never paid for every single date. just a few. ❞ that was one of the many differences between coriolanus and billy taupe, it seemed. a small smile spread across her face at his words, eyes meeting his as he spoke. ❝ i think both of us deciding is a good idea, then, ❞ lucy gray told him softly, big brown eyes still locked on his, happiness that she hadn't felt in a long time was overtaking her. maybe catching billy taupe cheating was a blessing in disguise. maybe, she was meant to be with coriolanus. written in the stars, a voice in her head said, causing her smile to widen. ❝ do you think if we weren't in the same class you'd even pass me a sparing glance ? ❞ she wasn't sure she wanted to know the answer, but the question was nagging at her deep inside.
"What do you mean? I should definitely pay for every... date..." Pale cheeks flushed at that part of the sentence, pretending to distract himself with a sip of smoothie before finishing, "we go on." That was just how he was taught. What kind of cretin would he be if he made her be the one to pay? Humiliating and disgraceful, that's how any man should feel if they're making the woman in the equation pay. "Buying the tickets is no issue, neither is letting you still choose the movie. Maybe we'll decide on one together when we get there." Wondering why she was smiling so much... sitting before her confused. Until it quickly managed to cause amusement to stir inside him, chuckling shyly and unable to stop from smiling back at the contagious way Lucy Gray's smile always was.

❝ because i made you angry with how i've been acting due to hormones. ❞ she smiled sweetly, looking at him. she hoped he was buying this act of hers, believing that it was hormones causing her to act against him like that. ❝ i sure hope they do, it's in my blood as well as theirs. they'll be learnin' an instrument as soon as they're able to be taught, ❞ lucy gray told him as she gave a sickly sweet smile. ❝ i do hope though that once they're born you don't plan to keep us both locked up anymore. after all, babies need to be able to be outside once in a while. ❞ it would be easier to run away once granted that freedom, she thought.
"Certainly," he starts with a smile, "Why would I not want my child to look like my beautiful soon to be wife?" Questioning her like it's a ridiculous thing to ask, giving a confused shake of his head. "Perhaps they will, Lucy Gray. I'm sure they'll do great things." Nodding slowly, hand squeezing hers again, playing nice as long as she is. "I have a feeling they'll come out singing or playing some instrument." he jokes with her, softly smiling. Even thinking she should start singing around the Capitol, with the proper surveillance of course.

❝ really, darlin' ? you'd still want our baby to look like me ? ❞ lucy gray studied him for a moment, also not quite believing him. surely he didn't still want them to look like her. maybe he was thinking the same, that he didn't want the baby to look anything like her. the way she thought but about not looking like him. ❝ i just hope that our baby likes music. i'll teach them how to play instruments. how to sing, write music. ❞ lucy gray did want her child to be musically inclined. it was in their blood, after all. they were covey no matter how far from the others they were forced to be. ❝ i couldn't imagine them not liking music. not when it's such a big part of my life. ❞ truthfully, she hoped that they were nothing like coriolanus-- that they weren't cruel and hateful toward people. she'd raise her baby to be kind.
Even if she very likely was pretending, lying to him, he could convince himself to be oblivious on purpose all in sake of the fact he liked when she obeyed like this. He hates disobedience and it keeps her out of trouble. Icy hues cautiously watched her movements, he still won't let go of his paranoia and sense to be cautious of Lucy Gray's intentions. She struck him with that snake, kisses to his hand could be a distraction before she strikes him again. By time she was questioning him, he realized he had zoned out of any previous conversation. "Remember?" he questioned, letting it sink in for a moment. Then hand lifts from her grip to tap her chin, "Like you, of course." Sharing his own lie with her, he'd prefer nothing about this child was like her. Not looks, not anything covey, not personality. He was scared that would mean he might actually grow a soft spot for Lucy Gray again. And that couldn't be accepted, she was a traitor, a bird that was actually just a snake.

❝ that sounds perfect then, ❞ lucy gray grinned as she looked at coriolanus, eyes still locked on his. for a split second, she could almost fool herself into believing she loved him again. almost. ❝ of course i'd love for them to have your hair, gorgeous ❞ she lied easily, bringing his hand to her lips, giving it a soft kiss. ❝ i want our baby to look exactly like you. ❞ that was a lie, of course. she didn't want her baby to look anything like him. the less her baby looked like coriolanus, the easier it would be for her to pretend she'd cheated and tell him the baby was somebody else's. ❝ what about you ? what do you want our baby to look like ? ❞
Observing her mannerisms, paying close attention even down to any signs her voice wasn’t as strong as her beliefs, when she responds. Usually, you can tell when someone’s lying when they can’t meet you in the eye, that was always the first sign. But it stumped him when he just found Lucy Gray’s fawn eyes were locked on his pale ones. It was infuriating… he could read almost anyone, but not her. It wasn’t just infuriating, it was maddening. “I believe I’ll make it easy and have the same.” With that, he closed the menu and on timely manner as their waiter comes over to collect their orders. Two pastas, alfredo style. And then they’re off, again. “What about the hair, Lucy Gray?” He goes back to his discreet testing. “Are you still committed to them having the same hair color, too?” he questions, blues staying trained on the untrustworthy songbird .

lucy gray refrained from the comment about him that she was going to make, knowing he didn't forgive her. she knew that he was too prideful to forgive. ❝ we are. because i do want our baby to have your eyes, ❞ the brunette lied to him, moving her hand so that her thumb could trace gently along his hand. she hated how icy he was-- snow lived up to his name. ❝ i think i'll go with the alfredo pasta. ❞ she answered, humming softly as she set the menu down. ❝ what are you getting, darlin' ? ❞ acting sweet came easy to her, afterall, she'd acted nice to those who would give her money before. it really wasn't any different-- play the part and she'd be able to live in peace, surely, with her baby.
"Certainly I forgive you. After all, I want us to be on good terms." His fingers curl around her hand. There's some hint of a lie in his unusually chipper tone, because he feels it deep in his bones there'll never actually be a good term for Lucy Gray trying to escape. Betray him. But that chipper-like tone could genuinely be channeled through relief he had his songbird, she was beautiful and vibrant, and right in front of him. With him. And the warmth he felt from her hand inside his, reassured him he has his hold on her. "Are we finally back to that?" he quips, managing to chuckle. On the inside, unlike before, he was now fine with that choice. And with her next words... as long as she acts appropriate, she can keep the promise of a covey name, he thinks. "Yes, I can compromise." he replies after a moment. As long as it fits his taste. "Now, what did you decide to go with Lucy Gray? For food."

❝ i’m glad you forgive me, darlin’. and i know you spent all that time on the room for me, or i’d ask to sleep in the same bed still. ❞ she was thankful for that excuse, not wanting to actually share a bed with him. a soft chuckle escaped her at his words. ❝ i don’t know, i think a mini coriolanus would be precious. ❞ lucy gray lied easily, smiling at him as she put on her act. ❝ we still have time to come up with names. as long as they are covey type names. ❞ she wasn’t budging on that, especially since she knew that he wouldn’t budge on her baby taking the snow name. lucy gray desperately wished that she wasn’t in this situation, forced to marry him while carrying a baby they hadn’t planned for.
❝ i guess the pregnancy made my brain scattered. i truly am sorry for running from you, and for being difficult. ❞ lucy gray began, turning her hand to properly hold his, intertwining their fingers together as she gave her most convincing smile. ❝ i hope our baby has your eyes. still the most gorgeous eyes i've ever seen. ❞ she wanted to gag at her own words but refrained. he couldn't see that this was all an act. she didn't want her baby to look anything like coriolanus. if they had no features that resembled him, perhaps lucy gray could try to convince him that she cheated and it isn't his child.
❝ for a boy, maybe something along the lines of cedar sage. but i'm still workshopping those. girls are easier to name, i think. ❞ she. sighed softly. before forcing herself to meet coriolanus's eyes and give a smile.

When all we had was you and me. That line doing something severe to him, even if he looked stoic on the outside. Arm shrugged, "Possibly." Pretending like it's not always heavily on his mind, his old life with her, his old self with her... when it was just him and her and he was a lot more naive and forgiving. He makes the decision to smile, going ahead and pretending he's still that naive person she met a long time ago. "I've been trying to say that. But good, Lucy Gray. I'm happy you've came to your senses. Now we'll be the perfect parents and the most perfect husband and wife. Nothing will stop us now." he smiles, even if no warmth reaches his eyes.
He wondered if it is a good name, if she deserved any say on the child's name, they will be bearing his blood and the Snow name so he opted on agreement. "That's nice. Any names for a boy?" he wonders, focusing on the menu as he questions.

❝ i'm trying to act that way now, aren't i ? show you more affection, let us go back to how we were before. remember, when all we had was you and me ? ❞ lucy gray was trying to see if he was taking the bait, testing the waters ever so slightly. she wasn't letting her guard down either, knowing that he can't be trusted. he could lie so easily to her, she knew that. that was why she wasn't going to believe anything he said. ❝ we're having a baby, coriolanus. our child. they deserve to have parents that love each other, and i decided that i will love you. ❞ part of it was truth, their baby did deserve parents who loved each other, but unfortunately, lucy gray couldn't give her baby that.
❝ a pasta. alright. i will try a pasta then. ❞ the way he grabbed her hand and held it to the table wasn't missed by the brunette, but she pretended to play dumb, offering a tender smile to her unfortunately future husband. ❝ for our baby, i was thinking that we give them a covey name. i like the name lenora jade for a girl. don't you ? ❞ her goal was to get him to believe that she truly was considering him in this baby process, and she was until she found a way to escape.
"It certainly wouldn't be an issue, if you acted as if you liked your soon-to-be husband most days." Emphasis on most as blues narrow at her, silent for a long moment, observing her body language and contemplating what he wanted to add. He was ignorant once already, she almost slipped right by. Making that mistake a second time would be pathetic, he couldn't make that mistake twice.
Lucy Gray...with a sudden change of heart. Fascinating. He almost decided to lean forward, to tell her to stop trying to play mind games with him, but ended up doing the opposite. Sitting silent for a moment longer before finally saying, "If you're still this optimistic this time next week, it's possible I'll believe you." That should should be interesting. If her charade holds up to the test of time.
"Try out a pasta." he answers flatly, pulling the second menu towards himself with haste. Should he even remove his eyes off her? She could poison his water the time he's looking over the menu... his hand grabs for hers after that thought, holding it against the table while he's able to finally concentrate of the menu now.

lucy gray grinned wide as she looked at him between bites of food. ❝ are you sure, darlin' ? i don't want you to have to pay for every date we go on. ❞ she didn't have money of her own, but years of being with greasy taupe had taught her how to get things for free. sneaking into movies was just one of the things she could contribute in the relationship, none of which were super legal, but she didn't care. ❝ well then, if you want to buy us tickets, you get to pick the movie. ❞ lucy gray felt over the moon to have the blond. he was more generous than he'd seemed initially. she couldn't help the way she smiled brighter around him, the way she'd felt like she was on cloud nine every time their eyes met.
"I'm glad you're having a good time, then. With me." Giving her a smile, wondering how it was he was having such a good time too. He didn't realize he'd like the company of anyone–– especially as much as he's been liking hers when they started off on the wrong foot. Or the usual way he always felt around people, he felt better being alone, being alone is all he knew. It was an unusual feeling to discover he liked someone's company so much.
As they finished up brunch, he took a sip of his smoothie before chuckling, "Lucy Gray, I'm sure we don't need to add to our criminal record. Plus, if you want to see a movie later tonight, I can just buy us tickets. I promise it's no big deal."

❝ that's what i need to do. go south. anywhere, get out. ❞ lucy gray told her quickly, eyes wide in what seemed to be a mix of fear, anger, and desperation. she wasn't angry at the other, just angry at the circumstances. she wished she had the covey there with her, they were stronger together. ❝ okay, i'll eat, but i really shouldn't stop. if they find me, i could be killed. mayor lipp in twelve never liked me, so he'd be happy to kill me himself if they catch me. ❞ not to mention, coriolanus would be more than willing to harm her. she'd heard the gunshots that he seemingly tried to aim at her when she escaped him. ❝ clothes would be nice, too. ❞ she added as an after thought, nodding. the covey member knew that she'd be spotted quickly with the color she wore.
a look of confusion flashed over abilene's face once again before she schooled her features . if it was that easy to leave they would have all left by now , she wanted to say . . . but she couldn't bring herself to when the girl was already confused and certain . abilene let out a breath , eyes glancing about by habit before settling on lucy gray again .
❛ folk talk about going south sometimes . ❜ she offered quietly and tried to ignore the hairs standing up on the back of her neck . ❛ listen hun . . . you aren't gonna get anywhere without some food , water , and rest . as it stands i can give you all three for a night . i can get you some clothes , too . ❜ they seemed roughly the same size . ❛ so you can blend in a little bit more . ❜

❝ what do you mean, darlin' ? i'm just showing my soon-to-be husband affection. is that not allowed ? ❞ she questioned as her eyebrows knit together. ❝ i've been thinking, and maybe i wasn't fair to you. i didn't give you the chance to explain anything. i was so quick to judge and now i think maybe i was in the wrong. this is our child, not just mine. it's selfish of me to try and keep them from you, ❞ she explained, big brown eyes meeting his once more. she would pretend she loved him again, or at least pretend that she wanted to make things good between the two once more. lucy gray tensed slightly at his touch, but played it off as being ticklish. as the host greeted them, her smile widened. ❝ i adore your outfit. i just love all of the bright colors. ❞ she followed to the table, sticking close to coriolanus even though she'd rather get her eyes gouged out than have his touch on her.
sitting down, lucy gray grabbed a menu and began to look through it. ❝ what do you recommend here ? ❞ she asked the blond, glancing at him over her menu. though she was only acting when it came to being civil, she did genuinely want suggestions because the options were overwhelming. they didn't have this many options in the districts, especially not twelve.
Feeling freaked out by the sudden affection he's getting from her, icy blues falling on the songbird. The touch to his shoulder almost felt like it should burn him. And the fact... it was suddenly their baby all the sudden and she wished for it to share his eyes, was even more alarming. "What are you doing, Lucy Gray?" He questioned quietly, brows gently creasing. "I thought it was only your baby." He heard it so many times... bothered by hearing it so many times... it was deeply etched into his brain.
The ride to their destination comes to a halt and Coriolanus climbs out first, fixing his coat, then holding the door open for Lucy Gray. Shutting the door back, he's once again exchanging a confused look before deciding to play nice too, "Of course, darling. I thought you deserved it." A hand finds her lower back, maybe if he acts affectionate himself, she'll break this silly little act. Leading her to the front, a host in a colorful outfit and a lot of makeup comes to greet Lucy Gray about hers before leading them to a table.

during the duration of their car ride, lucy gray had scooted closer to coriolanus, head on his shoulder as she grabbed his hand once more. ❝ i can't wait until our baby is here. i hope they have your eyes, ❞ the brunette told him, playing the part of his girl once more. she would get him to believe that she did love him, if only for that night. maybe longer to get more of what she wanted, but she wasn't sure how long she could keep the act up since she despised him. as they got to the restaurant, lucy gray waited for him to get out before she got out herself, smiling up at him. ❝ thank you for taking me out to dinner, sweetheart. ❞
"You should be satisfied now, now that we have arrived." he jokes without the smile, finding her doe eyes looking up at him and finding himself in confusion... why she's being so nice to him. Why there's no hate in her eyes. Taking the spot next to her, he shuts the door back. Almost wondering if she's planning to poison his drink at dinner while he's not looking... that's something to be mindful of. The driver begins to take them to their destination, a fancy restaurant in the city's square. In the meantime Coriolanus glances over at Lucy Gray, just to slowly move his gaze back away. Did running her the bath put her in a kind mood? The pregnancy hormones? Or is she really trying to poison him.

❝ well yes, but we haven't walked out the door yet. ❞ lucy gray told him with a smile, thinking they needed to leave now before he changed his mind. as they walked to the elevator, she stayed close to him, holding close as if they were a normal couple. she wasn't going to allow herself to fall for any charms again, but she would make him believe that she had. that was the goal, pretend she was his girl once more to get more of what she wanted. play and win his own game. as they slipped into the car, lucy gray looked to him with her wide bambi eyes, ❝ you can sit close, i won't bite. ❞ he's lucky she was playing nice or she would.
"That's where I'm leading you, aren't I?" Finding the hand odd... she never reached for him these days. Staring down at it like her touch may burn him, thinking he should jerk it away but fingers decide to cautiously wrap around her smaller hand instead. And the petname? He was certainly looking at her weird now, icy hues flickering away from her innocent eyed look. He didn't want to look for long and have any chances of her stirring any old feelings he once had. Once the elevator comes open, the taller leads them outside where a car is waiting, Coriolanus opens the back door and gestures Lucy Gray to go first.
