St. Sabbas the Sanctified was a 6th-century monk and founder of the monastery of Mar Saba in Palaestina, modern-day Palestine.

The term dormition, in Eastern Orthodox tradition, signifies the "falling asleep" or death of a saint. It's a way of acknowledging the passage of a holy person from earthly life to the eternal realm, while also acknowledging their miraculous resurrection.¹
