Casey Novak is an interesting character for the fact that she's sort've the anti-Cabot. We meet Alex Cabot and we see that she's very confident in her abilities. She's a harvard law graduate, her uncle is a federal judge, she's ready to work. She's blonde, dainty, "ladylike". She always shows up to court in a skirt, she argues in court in a traditional manner, using facts and witnesses, as opposed to charm. When things get to be too much, she lashes out, works harder, buries herself into her work.

We meet Casey and she doesn't even want the job. She wants something more impersonal because she feels emotions very deeply. Where Alex buried her emotions, Casey shows them, she allows them to push her harder. Where Alex is "ladylike", Casey is more tomboyish. She hardly ever wears skirts to court, she plays softball, she loud, brash, she walks in guns blazing. Her hair is a fiery red, a stark contrast to Alex's platinum blonde.

They're complete opposites of each other's except when it comes to the victims. They're both dedicated to the point of self-destruction. They will do anything to get justice even if means breaking the law, and I think that any ADA for SVU has to have that quality, that drive to always seek justice, even in unjust means.
