ghostconjured:
There was a voice.
There was a voice, and it was familiar and -
Had he done it? Had he really, really done it? His eyes stung with unshed tears as he opened them, having to blink a few times to get past the blurriness because he knew that voice, he knew it, and his power might be to commune with the dead, it might have kept his brother around all these years, but he really, really thought he would never hear this voice again.
He thought Dave was gone.
He thought -
He wasn’t sure what he thought.
But Dave was there, he was there - he could hear him and he could see him and he had no idea how he had done it, he had no idea if this would last like it always did with Ben or if it would be a fleeting moment of contact, but Dave was there and nothing else mattered.
“Dave,” he whispered, and maybe it sounded a little like a question, but he was having a hard time believing his eyes. “Holy - I can’t - did I do it? I did it. You’re here, you’re really - oh, Dave, Dave.”
There was nothing, nothing in the world that he wanted more than to jump up from his seat and throw his arms around Dave, but the moment his muscles moved to do that, raising him slightly from his cushion, he realized that anything could break the connection. If he didn’t know how he was doing this, then maybe it was the board. Or maybe -
Maybe he just didn’t want to find that he couldn’t make Dave solid.
Maybe he didn’t want a repeat of all the times he tried to throw an arm over Ben’s shoulders, hug him, tackle him - every time he moved for a casual touch and they were both painfully reminded of the fact that he was gone.
He didn’t want Dave to be gone.
But he was.
“Dave,” he repeated, a hint of laughter in his tone from sheer amazement. “Come, sit down! I… I… Do you - okay, one thing at a time. Wow, there’s so much - okay. How do you feel? Can you - are you here? Completely here? I don’t… I don’t really know how any of this works. Wow, Dad was right, I don’t know the first thing about any of this, do I?”
Dave offered Klaus a small smile despite his overwhelming confusion. Klaus seemed so overjoyed that Dave was there and Dave was glad to be out of the empty void. He glanced around, taking in his surroundings. He didn’t appear to be in Vietnam anymore, at least not on the battlefield. He didn’t seem to be in the medic tent either. He also didn’t feel any pain, which was weird because he was so certain that he’d been shot. Dave looked down at himself, not certain what he was expecting to see. What he wasn’t expecting was to see a gaping hole in his chest where he had been shot.
Dave’s eyes widened and he pressed a hand to the hole, but no blood appeared on his hands. There was no pain. Nothing. He couldn’t feel anything. He could feel his limbs and his body, but that was it. He couldn’t feel any air or the temperature or any such thing. His expression was one of horror as he looked back up at Klaus. What was going on? Was Dave supposed to be dead? His head was spinning and he stumbled over towards Klaus, taking a seat beside him.
“Klaus, what’s going on?” He asked shakily. He kept a hand against the hole in his chest as if that would stop him from bleeding out. He listened to Klaus’ questions, swallowing past a lump in his throat. “I feel...dizzy.” He admitted, taking a breath. “Apart from that, I don’t feel much of anything.” He breathed, continuously glancing down at the hole in his chest. “I don’t feel anything at all.” He removed the hand, still finding no blood upon it. “I don’t understand. Why wouldn’t I be completely here?” He looked at Klaus with worry in his gaze. “Klaus, please explain what’s happening.”

𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠, leaving her with his lover who happened to be his younger self ( she doesn’t quite get the situation, but who was she to question anything? ). fingers drum against the surface, unsure of how to address the situation. this is awkward, leaving her at a loss for words.
his words pull her out of her thoughts, and she’s thankful that he speaks first. ❛ yeah, i’m from the future. i think it’s nice, more accepting than the 60′s. then again, it depends on where you live. everything’s more lively in the future, though, a lot of new opportunities present. ❜
Dave nodded at the woman’s words. What was her name again? So many names had been thrown at him in such a short amount of time that he couldn’t quite remember. He was pretty sure it started with a V, though. He didn’t ask because he didn’t want to be seen as rude. He just smiled awkwardly and nodded along to what she was saying.
“It sounds nice.” He told her, not entirely certain that he actually believed that she was from the future. It was just too much to comprehend. How could they be from the future? What were they doing in the 60s if they were? Klaus hadn’t been very helpful when it came to explaining anything. He looked down awkwardly, unsure of what else to say. “Klaus is...interesting.” He said slowly, looking up and checking that the man in question wasn’t there.

conjuredead:
the kiss is quite frankly — amazing. actually even better than imagined, given how long klaus had been imagining this exact situation to happen. the needy kiss turns into something much slower and sweeter and he can’t quite help the smile that spreads as it goes on, before both of them have to part for air, clearly glad they managed to push through … whatever it had been holding them back. because the back and forth flirtation had been getting a bit much at that rate.
“awwww, stupid? was i really that bad, katz?” klaus has to joke, of course feigning hurt with a pout, though it’s all in good fun, especially when dave continues with what he meant to say. “yeah. seconding that, this was … whoah … why didn’t we do this sooner?” a chuckle leaves his mouth, before he shrugs. “oh y’know. here and there. or maybe i’m just a born natural.” he grins, waggling his eyebrows for effect, before errupting into a small laugh. god … this … this was perfect.
Dave would have continued kissing Klaus forever if he thought he could get away with it. There was something about the way his lips felt against his that just seemed right. Maybe it was just Klaus’ skill or just the way his lips were made, but it felt like something more than that. Maybe Dave was just imagining things or being too much of a romantic, but to him, Klaus’ lips felt like home.
He chuckled at Klaus’ joke, shaking his head. “No. You were incredible. Amazing.” He said earnestly. “Not bad at all.” He grinned at him, his hand still touching Klaus’ face. When Klaus questioned why they hadn’t done it sooner, Dave shrugged. “Stupidity, I suppose.” He chuckled. “Pure and simple.” He smiled, searching Klaus’ face. “A natural is right. Damn.” His tongue darted out to wet his lips. When Klaus laughed, Dave found himself staring, just so in awe of him. “I’d like to do that again.” He breathed out.

conjuredead:
god, he really should have kept his mouth shut. possibly avoid this entire conversation alltogether. klaus can’t bear the look of hurt that rests on his love’s face and so he dares scoot even closer, deciding to lean onto dave’s side. “you and … the countless lives that were poitnlessly lost in that war. but that’s just it, right? everyone thought they were doing the right thing.” because that’s how they’ve made it sound back then. that’s basically what dave grew up with. fighting for your country, dying for it – it’s portrayed as a goddamn honor, but at this rate .. well, klaus is more than glad they’ve managed to avoid it, even if unintentionally.
“hey — hey, don’t say that, none of that –” the self-deprecating tone doesn’t sit well with klaus and even if it might be a bit hypocritical to think so, he’ll be damned if he’ll let dave speak about himself like that. a hand goes up, pressing against the soldier’s cheek so klaus can make him look at him. “you know, i’m really, goddamn sick of that mentality and hey, i don’t blame them — we’ve come far, but if they aren’t supportive enough to see how absolutely freaking perfect you are, dave, well then.” a small shrug is offered. he doesn’t dare say that they aren’t worth it, because this is still dave’s family they’re talking about, but the soldier can probably put two and two together to know what he meant, either way.
whatever the case, their conversation takes a different turn, one that klaus would have absolutely loved to avoid, if possible. no suck luck, however. though the physical touch was nice. the closeness. he could get used to that keeping those voices at bay as he shuffled a bit in order to drop his head onto dave’s chest. focusing on his heartbeat, because it sure as hell beat the shrieks and screams that threatened to spill. “yeah, well .. daddy thought so. thought a group of crime fighting kids was the next best thing!” klaus laughed, shaking his head as he did. tone turned bitter, but the joke is genuine. resentment of their father was something he’d gotten over anyway, so now he could technically joke about it. make the whole ordeal feel a bit better for himself.
his tone does change upon the question he’s been dreading to get, because of course dave knows it. well, now he does. knows that the reason klaus kept numbing himself with any substance that would do the trick is because of the ghosts. because there simply didn’t seem to be any other way. “what’s it like …. hmm — like a horror movie playing on repeat? you want to mute the screams because they’re loud and annoying and you can’t do jack shit to help them, but you can’t. you just can’t. make them shut up. or — something along those lines, anyway. it’s weird, man. but yeah. yeah. it’s why i … y’know. if i’m high as a kite i don’t have to give a shit about them. don’t have to listen to them screaming in my ear. a win-win really.” except the good that comes from the high can only last for so long until he eventually … crumbles.
Dying for his country seemed to be Dave’s destiny. He had latched onto the idea of fighting in that damn war, of dying in that damn war. At least it would make his family proud of him. Maybe if he fought and didn’t die, they wouldn’t pressure him to marry. And if he did die, he’d be a hero to them. He’d never expected for things to grow out of his control. He never expected to meet someone like Klaus, someone who made everything seem okay. He’d never expected to fall in love. But Klaus was irresistible. He changed everything. And now he was looking at him like he was something goddamn precious just the way he was. A hand found Dave’s cheek and turned his head to face Klaus. He blinked at him, listening to his words.
Perfect. Klaus called him perfect. Dave didn’t feel perfect, not in this moment. But Klaus seemed convinced that he was and that warmed Dave’s heart. “If I didn’t know any better, Hargreeves, I’d say you’re sweet on me.” He teased, nudging him playfully. It was a bit of a deflection, avoiding the subject, but he took a breath. “I don’t know about perfect.” He said softly. “But thank you.” He forced a shaky smile. Klaus’ reassurances genuinely meant a great deal to him and they did make him feel a bit better.
Dave’s arm was firmly wrapped around Klaus, holding him close and coming up to play with his hair. He frowned as Klaus spoke about his father. The more he learned about the man, the more he hated him. “Your father was wrong.” He said, his tone firm. “You didn’t deserve that. You didn’t. You were too young.” He continued playing with Klaus’ hair, just twirling the strands around his finger. Dave couldn’t imagine being in Klaus’ shoes, couldn’t imagine having that much responsibility put onto his shoulders at such a young age. “You deserved to have a normal childhood.” He told him gently.
As Klaus went on describing what seeing dead people was like, Dave’s blood ran cold. “That sounds awful.” He murmured, looking at Klaus with a pitiful expression on his face. He hated that Klaus had to go through that. Hated even more that the only way he got any kind of relief from it was by using drugs. It sounded like torture. “Is there no other way to get them to be quiet?” He asked sadly. “Nothing else that helps?”

“See? A better person than I am!” he said, gesturing towards Dave. He mirrored the other’s smile, already liking him. Maybe it was the kindness or that midwestern look. But Klaus liked Dave. He laid on the bed they assigned to him - better than rehab matresses he had to admit -, still keen on talking to the other. “So where you’re from Mr. Dave? Iowa? Nebraska? Illinois? Dear old Indiana?”
Dave chuckled at Klaus’ comment, smiling to himself. “Well, I’m not so sure about that.” He said, glancing back at the other man. “I wouldn’t fault anyone for not sharing their pants with another man.” He assured with a light chuckle. “I’m originally from Wisconsin.” He informed him. “But I was living in Texas for awhile before being shipped out.” He explained. “What about you?”

“Come on, stay with me!”
“No no no no no!”
“You shot me!”

“That looks broken.”
“I think my leg/arm is broken.”
“That doesn’t look good.”
“Am I going to die?”
“You’re not going to die!”
“Calm down!”

“Are you bleeding?”
“Don’t move, you’re bleeding.”
“Is that blood?”
“Whose blood is that?”
“That’s a lot of blood.”

“Damn, I got blood on my shirt.”

conjuredead:
“okay, okay, sheesh— point taken.” klaus doesn’t know that, no. but he’s willing to keep a positive outlook despite the shivers, the pain and the nausea currently wrecking his body. because if he can’t do that, well … then he may as well go and bother one of his siblings – let the whole world know what a pathetic loser he is. it was inevitable, after all. well — maybe not from the start, but now that he had found a reason to get sober for … yeah.
now it kinda was.
“take it up with ben, he’s been doing that for … forever, he could give you some tips.” on how to handle klaus when he gets like this, that is. and it’s not meant to be said in spite, it’s just that this patronizing attitude – even if spoken out of worry and care, didn’t really do much for him. “ugh dave, ‘m sorry, i don’t — you know i don’t mean that.” it’s muttered immediately after as he gulps down whatever content had threatened to make its way out of his stomach again, shaking his head. “do they, though? bet they don’t even know where i am. you know they … didn’t even notice i was gone when i was in vietnam? tchhh yeah.”
Dave sighed, watching helplessly as Klaus struggled past nausea and pain. He sat beside him, sitting criss-cross on the floor. He watched him, his eyes sad and pained as he watched the man he loved so much struggle with this. He glanced at Ben, who was sitting atop the bathroom sink, shaking his head. Dave sighed and turned back to Klaus. “I know you don’t mean it.” He said gently. “I know.” He wished desperately to rub circles into his back.
He frowned as Klaus wondered aloud if his family would care about him, pointing out that they hadn’t noticed him missing before. Dave sighed, understanding why Klaus would be hesitant to talk to anyone about what he was going through. “I understand.” He said gently. “But they’re still your family.” He insisted. It didn’t occur to him that family didn’t always love each other. “I’m sorry that you had to go through so much without them knowing. But they can help you now.” He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “If not them, phone a friend or something, at least. There must be someone who could look after you.”

ghostconjured:
@soldierqueer liked for a starter !!
It was April 2nd, 2019.
There was no apocalypse. Which… was honestly rather surprising, considering the fact that they, the Umbrella Academy, were the ones tasked with stopping it. He’d pretty much been ready for the world to end, honestly. But hey, they were also the reason why it almost ended in the first place, so that probably balanced it out.
It was April 2nd, 2019.
He still had not been able to conjure Dave.
So… yeah, that made sense. Disaster averted, they won, and Klaus still couldn’t do something that, according to his dearest father, should be basically second nature to him. He wondered what Dace would say about that.
He sighed.
There was an ouija board before him ( he was desperate, okay? ) and he placed his fingers over the planchette, trying his best to put on his most serious face and not to laugh. Maybe if he kept it up for long enough, it’d stop feeling ridiculous and he’d be able to take it seriously.
Daddy dearest had always said that this was a way to focus his powers. He’d never really given it a real shot - maybe there was something to it. Maybe. What was the harm in trying?
“Uh… ugh, I should be better at this, I’m literally a walking ouija board,” he complained, stretching his neck for a moment before closing his eyes and doing his best to just focus. That was what Sir Reginald had always said he lacked, focus. “Hello? Anyone there? Actually, no, scratch that - you stay where you are, ghosties, I don’t really need any distractions. Just… feel free to stay in the netherworld or wherever you go for… all of eternity? Yeah. Sounds good. Uh… I’m really just looking for Dave? Dave Katz? So if anyone has seen him, maybe just… give him the address? Tell him to call? How does this even work? Would it be too much to ask to be born with a ‘Guide to Your Weird Psychic Abilities’ book in hand?”
Dave was dead. Or at least, he was pretty sure that he was dead. He had been shot through the chest and everything had gone dark. The last thing he could remember was the sight of Klaus crying his name, holding him, and the feeling of the pain that overwhelmed him. He’d wanted to speak. Wanted to call out. But he hadn’t been able to. He hadn’t even been able to scream. He’d been in the dark. There had been nothing.
And then, there had been something again. It was only the hint of something. It was blurry images and distorted sounds. Dave couldn’t even feel himself. He wasn’t sure that he quite existed just yet. But eventually, he could make out a voice. A familiar voice, though he couldn’t quite place it just yet. Dave? Dave Katz? The voice was saying his name. Why would a voice be saying his name? Dave blinked and that was when he realized that he had eyelids again, that he had a body again.
He looked down, able to see his arms and legs and body again. He took a breath. He could breathe again. He was no longer nothing. The voice was still speaking. How does this even work? As things began to adjust, Dave could make out the figure. It was Klaus. And he was with a board. Upon closer examination, he realized that it was a Ouija board. What would he be doing with one of those?
“Klaus?” Dave opened his mouth and spoke. He could barely hear himself, so he tried again. “Klaus?” He spoke louder, approaching the figure. “Can you see me? Can you hear me?” He swallowed, hoping more than anything that Klaus could see him. “I’m here, Klaus. I’m here.”

space-time-and-coffee:
The frown he threw Dave’s way this time was one out of complete confusion. No one had ever defended Klaus like that. He was pretty sure the man himself would agree to being called an idiot if he were asked. He’d stranded this man almost 50 years in the future and somehow he’d still argue his intelligence? That coupled with the daring look, considering he’d aimed a gun at him just a moment ago. Obviously, this man had it bad for his brother.
“ What ?! “ He exclaims at the news of the briefcase’s fate. “ No , you’re right , my brother isn’t an idiot . He’s an absolute goddamn moron . “ He says the frustrated insult through gritted teeth. His moment of hope gone with it.
He takes off towards the front door of the house, gesturing for the other to follow. “ A time machine . You could say that , yes . “ He stops at the door, looks back towards him. “ Not that it matters now it’s a bunch of worthless scrap . “
Dave glared at the boy as he continued insulting Klaus. The longer the two of them spoke to one another, the less Dave liked this kid. He spoke and acted like he was much older than he was, which was unsettling. Plus, there was the added displeasure of the boy throwing insults at Klaus like they were nothing. “Who the hell are you, anyway?” Dave questioned. “I thought Klaus’ siblings were all the same age?” He followed after the child.
A time machine. The way this kid talked about it so casually threw Dave for a loop. He didn’t mind that time travel was a thing, didn’t seem bothered by it even remotely. “Don’t look at me. I didn’t break it.” Klaus had, but Dave wasn’t going to tell this kid that.

“Do you usually give your pants to strangers like that? I know in your shoes, I wouldn’t have. I would’ve just watched and laughed my ass off as their towels fell. What i mean is thanks to not be a dick like me.”
Dave rose an eyebrow at the rambling man. “You’re welcome.” He said simply, an easy smile resting on his face. “I wasn’t about to let you get in trouble for not having your proper clothes.” He shrugged, stretching a bit. He didn’t bother questioning why Klaus had appeared seemingly out of nowhere, dressed only in a towel. It would probably make sense at a later time.
