Today, I started my job and met many lysari. I was also introduced to a Tarkaan security officer named Kaelen. He is assigned to protect the children in the ward housing. Tarkaans are great warriors and remind the lysari of what the humans call "dragons." I have not seen a dragon, but the humans say they don't exist or don't exist anymore. I am unsure of the difference.

I spent the day exploring the space station beyond the Sector D Zyrrhan habitats. Another Zyrrhan gave me these unique eye coverings to protect my eyes from the irritating fluorescents beyond. He said the humans called them "sunglasses." I thanked him and continued on my way.

Toward the heart of the space station is this sizeable multi-level market that feels indoors and outdoors. The ground floor is filled with greenery intended to make the residents feel more like their home world. Some patches are earthen plants, green with pink or purple flowers, nothing like the beautiful blues and purples of our plant's bioluminescence. Others were patches of dry soil, and some had plants I didn't recognize. It seemed to be something of everything to help everyone feel at home.

There were many things at these markets. Cafes and restaurants, craft and hobby stores, and even food markets where you could get ingredients from nearly every species and culture in the Union.

It was in one of these cafes that I heard the song. It flowed through the large market and wrapped itself up in my resonance, causing my bioluminescence to shift and twinkle with the music. I followed it into the cafe, seeing a Sarynite singing in the corner. She was dressed in this sheer purple gown, underneath which you could see an indigo corset-style bodice and matching underskirt. What the humans would classify as hair more closely matched the feather crown of the earthen axolotl. Our eyes met, and she brought her song to a close, breaking into the flashiest smile I'd ever seen. She headed straight for me, elegant and graceful with every step, as if she floated across the floor.

"You're a Zyrrhan," She stated matter-of-factly in her lilting tone once she arrived. "I'm Liora."

"I'm Estella," I returned her greeting, "You're a Sarynite."

"I am," She paused momentarily as if considering me. "Would you like to take a walk?"

Again, her tone was lilting and melodic. I realized she was communicating through song, like the earth whale. If it were not for the translators we wore, I'm sure her speech sounds very similar to a whale song. We walked laps around the main concourse of the market for hours, discussing our respective species, harmonic resonance, and the Sarynite's songs. By the end of it, I was sure I had made a friend, and her name was Liora.

By the time I had returned to Sector D, it had been hours. Long past my need for rest, and my muscles ached. In my sanctuary, there is a stream that runs through the center communal room that is used to store and cool vials of the Zyrrhans liquid diet, mainly consisting of different concentrations of algae and fungi. From that stream, I plucked a container of Golden Radiance serum, a viscous golden gel, and used three fingers to scoop out a serving before closing the container and placing it back in the cooling stream. I sucked the gel off my fingers since the substance was too thick to absorb much of the nutrients through my skin. The sanctuary was quiet, and I was used to communal living.
