There are a lot of great “Gale Approves” moments in the game, but I think my favorite might be one of the earliest (or possibly the very first?) one you can get.
It happens right after you ask him about himself and he gives you his “cat, wine, library” dialogue, ending with “didn’t that paint enough of a picture?”
If you press further by trying to peer into his mind via the tadpole and you succeed, you’ll only get a glimpse before he angrily shuts you out, and you’ll earn his disapproval:

He’s pissed, and rightly so.
However! In the next dialogue, if you tell him curiosity made you do it, he not only immediately forgives you, he ALSO gives you approval for it (thereby canceling out his prior disapproval):

I love this interaction for two reasons:
First, because it instantly tells you everything you need to know about Gale—he’s reserved until he gets to know you, he’s curious with a hint of mischief, and he’s very sweet and forgiving.
And second, because the whole interaction can be summed up as:
Gale: How dare you?!
Tav: Sorry, I’m a total nebshit.
Gale: OH! 😃👍 same

A friend of a friend came to my party last week, and he was a guy with a literary interest but no knowledge at all about fandom culture. Since I'm very open about writing explicit fanfiction I got to hear his earnest question: "Why do you write that?"
The answer I gave beyond "because I like it" is that it's about exploring tension to me. Sexual tension in particular.
Some canon settings are full of it, like Bully. It's a whole bunch of soon to be adults, the sexual exploration that entails, making out as a game mechanic, lusting after more as subtext. As a reader of that text it did arouse me, although not as literally as it sounds. It (a)roused interest. What if the characters got to explore that more deeply? That's what my fanfiction did.
Other settings create sexual tension not within the text, but in the meeting with the reader. I know Star Stable Online is for kids. I still think they devs drew Sabine that way for a reason. To actual kids she's a cool villain, to an adult she's a lesbian dreamboat, please step on me- Hence I wanted to explore that. Explore her. I wanted to give her teeth, lips and blood that her canon self doesn't have. So that's what that fanfiction did.
This discussion at my party was civil and well understood. In a sense, it felt like touching grass. To speak openly, with likeminded friends, and open minded strangers, really grounds you as a person. I even thanked him for asking since I found the question so exhilarating.
Hopefully I'll get my ass in gear and write more of my original work soon. The sexual tension there is worth exploring. After all, I set it up myself 😌
#it was a good party with good friends#i would tag the fandoms but I dont want to step on any puritan bumblebees#that's not something you say#but i stepped on a bumblebee as a child and it hurt so fucking much#that poor bumblebee was just minding its business#so no tags#except my own#be careful what you ship for#sabine simpery

"Dispute"
This idea has been around for a year, but it has only just been implemented.
It was a bad idea for Ted to argue with a smart guy.
