Editing Manga Icons for Skintone: A Guide

Well, as long as I’m in the process of editing these icons, I might as well throw a tutorial together for anyone who might need it.

As you’ve probably noticed, there are very few manga faceclaims out there with darker skin colors, which seriously limits FC options for some muses, since not everyone is comfortable with live faceclaims or can draw their own. SO, here’s a simple guide for how I edit my icons

I’ve found this method is easier with icons that are already cropped & resized, so it’s probably in your best interest to make the icons before editing. It’s pretty quick (even if you’re like me and use a crappy laptop trackpad); editing one icon usually takes under 1 min. once you know what you’re doing.

Can you do icons for Anthy Himemiya from Shoujo Kakumei Utena (1997 anime)? Pretty please!?

Ah!! I'd love to if i had time to sit through and screen cap the anime ;; I'm very sure there's a manga for utena so if you're fine with manga icons, then i can do that!! I'm very sorry for the inconvenience but that's the best i can do!!

If you're still taking suggestions, there's also Yoruichi Shihoin from Bleach! Haven't seen too many icons of her around, especially in manga format, so she could be a good character to icon

I’ll probably nab the earlier chapters where yoruichi comes in as i’m just picky when it comes to how the art style changed. I’m just stubborn lmao so I’m sorry if people want the later style of her!!

Sennen Meikyuu no Nana Ouji has a dark skinned main character. I don't know any other manga that have dark skinned characters, though. Sorry.

I’ve seen that manga around as someone has made icons of the character I think you’re talking about! And no worries! I welcome any and every suggestion for darker skinned characters!! You’ve done great, no need for apologies!!

Ikumi Mito & Akira Hayama from Shokugeki No Soma both have pretty tan skin in the manga

Thank you for the suggestions! I’ve already made a batch of Akira Hayama icons, however, none for Ikumi Mito as it’s such a shame since she’s so cute!

Aside from the most obvious/well known I can think of: There's (at least) two dark-skinned characters in Shounen Oujo (By Yukihiro Utako) that are involved with the main group. The style of that manga is pretty nice but I haven't seen many icons of them, so making a few will surely help!

   Hmm. I feel like I’ve seen icons for him a lot on other blogs as hirunaka no ryuusei’s a pretty popular manga so i’m a little conflicted on going through and making icons for him.
