Watch this. One of my fave things of late, these videos are just getting better and intense.
“Let’s Think About This Picture Let’s Not Look At This Picture”
This is a video documenting a solo performance that was performed within an installation space made in collaboration with Petra Szemán and Ellen Welsh.
During the performance I responded to a playlist (collectively compiled by myself, Ellen and Petra) and meditated on my own physical and mental awkwardness - trying to find some sort of relief in isolation… Disconnection, dissociation and dislocation.
I also reflected on the construction and deconstruction of systems and narratives. This peaks at the end of the performance when I challenge a specific image in the installation and remove it - censoring myself.
Everything was improv and I very much wanted to dwell on the aloneness and intimacy that can come with dissociating. Flowing and interrupting to forgot this world. Bye bye
(Music in video: Dead Man’s Bones - ‘Lose Your Soul’ and J. A. Seazer - ‘Midori soundtrack’)

I participated in a workshop with AfterEffects and Photoshop (mostly AfterEffects) – I never had any training with any of these programs, or anything similar, so my final animation project is mainly experimental, working with the sometimes unrelated bits of things and information and quotes I’ve been collecting/thinking about for a while. I used found images, photos I took with my disposable cameras, some of my old drawings.

Ma gal! ma bae! my love. I really liked the idea behind all these performances, and I also think it's quite interesting how we've both sort of reflected on the difficulties of showing non heterosexual love in public, me through my poem and her through this performance piece.

Performance, Seven Deadly Sins ENVY
I did seven performances in seven different locations around Newcastle, all relating to the Seven Deadly Sins.
I tried to work around certain quotes in the bible, for envy:
'Love is patient, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.'
I used the performances to allow myself certain sins. One thing I envy the most is heterosexual couples in public. To satisfy my envy I allowed myself to display affection in public with my partner.
It was a difficult performance to do, perhaps even comparable to an endurance performance… We held hands and snuggled in a cafe, we even fed each other in the cafe…
A performance of pretence, a pretence I found hard to fake. It’s hard to force yourself to feel comfortable, and safe.

It's weird to upload this now, considering I made it over a year ago. It's a ceramic and glass piece on the theme of 'the torso'. For a starting point I used Barbara Kruger's line 'Your body is a battleground'.  In the heart me and my girlfriend feature, at different windows, separated. The lungs feature things that feel restricting and tight and heavy on my chest.  Beneath lay the intestines, my filth. This was quite a rushed project over 6 days, in a media I'd never worked with- and I think it shows. However, I liked my quick creativity and response to the idea, creating a torso like self portrait. It'd be great to re-do this and really have time over my imagery with a greater sense of the media, because I think ceramic and glass can do really wonderful interesting things.
kudos also to Egon Schiele, inspired me in form and shape.

I really like the idea behind the project and how it's been presented. I think the idea of just slightly breaking social customs as a performance is cool...like allowing yourself to do freeing things under the justification of 'performance'. Maybe we should all do this more ourselves, as like a healing or freeing thing- commit 'sins'. Then again it's also interesting how the freedom can still cause discomfort.
I'd really like to see this developed. What a bae.

Performance, Seven Deadly Sins PRIDE
This is the first project I have done with Performance Art and I LOVE it!!!
I did seven performances in seven different locations around Newcastle, all relating to the Seven Deadly Sins.
I tried to work around certain quotes in the bible, for pride:
'If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride himself, without comparing himself to somebody, for each one should carry his own load.'
I used the performances to allow myself certain sins. To allow myself Pride I danced with an audience. Dancing is something I really enjoy, however I dislike the vanity involved - at least my perceived vanity of dance. Always forbidding myself.
Here I danced on a platform for seven complete songs (including Death Grips :D ) I think these performances were semi-therapeutic for myself, this one told me a lot about my limits.

I've written a blog post here about questioning things you see repeated on the internet and about making things 'new'. It's also kinda about that life long issue of 'why make anything ever if it's all been done better before?'. I'm quite pleased with it, and hope you'll enjoy reading it/ find it thought provoking.

So I watched ‘the British Guide to showing off’ the other night and it’s really fab and on iplayer at the moment. Not for long though, so go watch it quick!
The trailer kinda captures the outrageous of it, but not so much all the other snippets and gems about art and life and LGBT issues and performance and grayson perry making cool comments and the fashion. If you like ‘paris is burning’ then you might like this :)

Lazy editing and body decoration, but they’re only really supposed to function as sketches and I quite like them. First one is a photo of me combined with a photo taken in long exposure of me waving glow sticks around. Actually painted myself blue and pink, I didn’t know where to find a blacklight or proper fluorescent paint.
I’d love to do this to someone with a prettier face and take whole body shots or even a group shot, but I wouldn’t trust anyone to be patient enough, even if I used stencils. Setting up a ‘stage’ with dark bed sheets and lamps and modifying their light intensity by draping fabrics over them took almost as many hours as the actual body painting. And these are just sketches :/ I guess I could paint mannequins, but I’d get so carried away.
Lots of accidental inspiration from Johnny Vargas-I started painting splodges after doing the eyes and then realised I’d stolen this look from him, but carried on anyway because it’s a great look and so appropriately alien/organic.

I've grown to like this more actually. I really like it as a photo for some reason, the white and the shapes and colours become both more subtle and more bright weirdly. I like the title, reminds me of the title of one of her other works.

Painting #1 "You’ve Disappointed Me Twice Now"
This is from my 3 weeks of painting were we needed to create 20 paintings without image references - this being my first one.
Knowing that a painting-a-day would be required I found it easiest to paint what was on my mind. So this is a depiction of the previous weekend.
Looking back to this painting I can see this is one of the rawest pieces I did, after this I tried to stop being myself. Perhaps this was not the right move?
I just wanted to experiment, however the rest felt stuffy.
